D&D’s Journeys Through The Radiant Citadel Announced

Radiant

The next D&D adventure anthology book will be called Journeys Through The Radiant Citadel, and will feature a total of thirteen short adventures for levels one through to fourteen.  The book will be out from June 21st.

The titular Radiant Citadel is a new setting for D&D, a fairly peaceful and functional place that functions as a trans-dimensional crossroads. Each adventure showcases a bit of this strange new place, fleshing out the multiple cultures and creatures that call the citadel their home.

Much like the recent Candle Keep Mysteries book, this anthology is also being used as a way to showcase some of the amazing and diverse talent in the industry today.  Each writer has been asked to draw inspiration from their connections to various real-world cultures and mythologies.

Inspiration for the book draws from the likes of the TV show Gravity Falls to the movies of Asghar Farhadi and all points in-between.  The adventures include everything from comedic mystery to navigating the politics of celestial forces.

This will be primarily an adventure book, but will also contain gazetteer-style  setting material for the Radiant Citadel itself as well as stats for monsters relevant to the adventures, as well as details on two more lands.  We’ll also meet organisations such as the Shield Bearers, a fantasy rescue group who venture into dangerous areas in order to save lives. The book also features magical charms, special boons that not only give characters an edge but also serve as plot hooks.  Details as to how to connect this book to your existing campaign are also contained within.

The names for the adventures have been released, and they are called:

•Salted Legacy

•Written In Blood

•The Fiend of Hollow Mine

•Wages of Vice

•Sins of Our Elders

•Gold for Fools and Princes

•Trail of Destruction

•In the Mists of Manivarsha

•Between Tangled Roots

•Shadow of the Sun

•The Nightsea’s Succor

•Buried Dynasty

•Orchids of the Invisible Mountain

Journeys through the Radiant Citadel is a collaboration between the D&D team and a talented collection of artists, storytellers, games designers, and other creatives. It includes contributions by Justice Ramin Arman, Dominique Dickey, Ajit A. George, Basheer Ghouse, Alastor Guzman, D. Fox Harrell, T.K. Johnson, Felice Tzehuei Kuan, Surena Marie, Mimi Mondal, Mario Ortegón, Miyuki Jane Pinckard, Pam Punzalan, Erin Roberts, Terry H. Romero,Stephanie Yoon, and many more.

Finally, the book will be available in two covers; the standard D&D logo’d design (which features an amazing picture of creature known as a Wyndling, which is inspired by real-world sugar gliders) and has been produced by the very talented Evyn Fong. The alt art cover, by Sija Hong will be exclusive to games stores and features a picture of the Radiant Citadel itself, floating in the Etheral plane surrounded by crystalline creatures, which are living manifestations of the cultures that inhabit the citadel.

Paul Dano Writes RIDDLER: YEAR ONE Comic For DC

The Batman actor Paul Dano writes Riddler: Year One comic for DC

Much has already been said and written about the comic book arcs referenced in Matt Reeves’ recently-released The Batmanwhich include Batman: Year One, The Long Halloween, Batman: Ego, and Earth One; never one to let Batman hog the spotlight however, Gotham supervillain the Riddler is getting his very own Year One comic.

DC recently confirmed that Paul Dano himself has written Riddler: Year One, a comic inspired by and linked to Reeves’ The Batman – in which, of course, Dano plays the hard-breathing serial killer who becomes known as Riddler. Stevan Subic provides the artwork in his DC debut.

Little is known about this series, but the title suggests it will explore a backstory for Dano’s character prior to the film’s events, namely how accountant Edward Nashton went from Gotham City nobody to Batman’s nemesis. The six-issue miniseries will be released bi-monthly from October this year.

Riddler will hardly be the first Bat-verse character to get his Year One shot. Following the Batman: Year One 1987 comic book arc by Frank Miller, other origin stories have included Jordan B. Gorfinkel and Jim Balent’s Catwoman: Year One, and Chuck Dixon and Scott Beatty’s Robin: Year One and Batgirl: Year One.

The Star Wars universe is only the latest in a long string of iconic sci-fi franchises that Lloyd will have been a part of.  The Disney+ Star Wars show is currently filming its third season, which does not yet have a release date. Stars Pedro Pascal, Carl Weathers and Giancarlo Esposito are all expected to return to The Mandalorian season 3, though fans will have to wait a while longer to find out what’s next for Mando and the Child.

Obi-Wan Kenobi is Lucasfilm and Disney+’s next release, which will star Ewan McGregor and is due to debut May 25th.

IRREDEEMABLE & INCORRUPTIBLE Will Be Adapted Into One Feature

The Plutonian in Irredeemable comics from Boom! Studios

Jeymes Samuel is making moves from the dust plains of the Wild West into the world of comic superheroes; the Harder They Fall director is re-teaming with Netflix to adapt the comic series Irredeemable and its spinoff, Incorruptible into one feature film which will reportedly combine both storylines.

The film will be written by Kemp Powers, who received an Academy Award nomination for his work on One Night in Miami and who co-wrote and co-directed the Pixar animated film SoulPowers will next be co-directing both parts of the much-anticipated Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.

Created by author Mark Waid and illustrated by Peter Krause and Diego Barreto, Irredeemable and Incorruptible were both published by Boom! Studios and ran from 2009 to 2012.

The Plutonian in Irredeemable

Irredeemable served to deconstruct and upend some of the best-known genre tropes, telling the story of how the world’s greatest superhero, the Plutonian (aka evil Superman), snapped under the pressure of his responsibilities and charted a dark path to become the world’s greatest supervillain, slaughtering millions of civilians in the process.

The spinoff, Incorruptible, flipped the story and followed the Plutonian’s long-time nemesis and supervillain Max Damage. It tracks Damage’s journey as he responds to the Plutonian’s descent by gradually transforming himself into a hero in order to stop him, but with the added pressure of achieving his goal before his degenerative powers break his mind.

A previous film adaptation of the comics was planned at 20th Century Fox and was to be directed by Adam McKay, but was eventually abandoned.

Samuel will produce the film adaptation alongside The Harder They Fall collaborators Shawn Carter/Jay-Z and James Lassiter, as well as Stephen Christy and Ross Ritchie for Boom!

RESIDENT EVIL Series Release Date Announced

resident evil netflix live action series poster

The first ever live action series based on popular video game franchise Resident Evil will bow on July 14th 2022, Netflix has just announced.

The streaming service promises that the series will “redefine the legendary horror franchise,” going on to state that the series expansion will bring forth the very best of the Resident Evil DNA – bad-ass heroines, some new and familiar creatures, a struggle for survival, and a deep mystery to unravel. Coming from Supernatural executive producer Andrew Dabb, fans can expect fresh storytelling, bone-chilling horror and an action-packed spectacle.

Netflix’s Resident Evil is set in 2036, fourteen years after a deadly virus caused a global apocalypse. Jade Wesker fights for survival in a world overrun by the blood-thirsty infected and insane creatures. In this absolute carnage, Jade is haunted by her past in New Raccoon City, by her father’s chilling connections to the Umbrella Corporation but mostly by what happened to her sister, Billie.

Resident Evil is my favourite game of all time,” Dabb previously stated. “I’m incredibly excited to tell a new chapter in this amazing story and bring the first ever Resident Evil series to Netflix members around the world. For every type of Resident Evil fan, including those joining us for the first time, the series will be complete with a lot of old friends, and some things (bloodthirsty, insane things) people have never seen before.”

The series stars Lance Reddick (Fringe, Bosch) as Albert Wesker, Ella Balinska (Charlie’s Angels) as Jade Wesker, Tamara Smart, Siena Agudong, Addeline Rudolph, Paola Nuñez, Ahad Raza Mir, Connor Gossatti, and Turlough Convery.

This will mark Netflix’s second foray into the Resident Evil universe, the first being the animated series Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness, which debuted in July last year.

All eight episodes will release July 14th on Netflix.

EUPHORIA’s Sydney Sweeney Joins MADAME WEB

Euphoria star Sydney Sweeney cast opposite Dakota Johnson in Sony's Madame Web

After an incredible year that’s seen Sydney Sweeney star in HBO’s The White Lotus and Euphoria, the actress is now jumping into Sony’s Universe of Marvel Characters. Deadline reports that Sweeney has joined Dakota Johnson in the upcoming superhero pic Madame Web in an unknown role.

S.J. Clarkson (The Defenders) directs from a script by Morbius duo Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless, with Kerem Sanga having written a previous draft. Madame Web was introduced as Cassandra Webb, an elderly blind woman on life support who possesses clairvoyant and precognitive abilities. Given Johnson’s casting, it’s more likely that Sony’s iteration of the character will centre on Julia Carpenter, the second person to adopt the Madame Web mantle. In the comics, Cassandra passed her powers of precognition and her blindness onto Julia right before she was killed.

Some fans have speculated that Sydney Sweeney will play Gwen Stacy/Spider-Gwen in Madame Web, but Sony are staying tight-lipped on the matter.

Madame Web will be the first female-led film in Sony Pictures’ universe of Marvel heroes, joining Spider-Man, Venom and very soon, Morbius. Another upcoming film within the Sony universe includes Kraven the Hunterstarring Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Fred Hechinger and Ariana DeBose and directed by J.C. Chandor; The Sinister Six, Nightwatch, and Jackpot are also amongst some of the projects in development.

Vampires In STAR TREK? No, It’s Just Paul Wesley

Vampire Diaries star Paul Wesley will play Captain James T. Kirk in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds

Paramount has announced that Vampire Diaries star Paul Wesley is set to play James T. Kirk in Season 2 of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds

The show’s first season has yet to premiere, but Wesley’s casting is cause for excitement. He will be the first to portray the iconic U.S.S. Enterprise captain on television since William Shatner originated the role back in the 1960s, and only  the third actor ever to play James Kirk – the other being Chris Pine, who took up the mantle in the 2009 rebooted film franchise.

“Paul is an accomplished actor, an astonishing presence and a welcome key addition to the show,” executive producers Alex Kurtzman, Akiva Goldsman and Henry Alonso Myers stated jointly. “Like all of us, he is a life-long Star Trek fan and we are excited by his interpretation of this iconic role.”

The cast of Paramount+ series Star Trek: Strange New Worlds

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds will follow Captain Christopher Pike (Anson Mount), Science Officer Spock (Ethan Peck) and Number One (Rebecca Romijn) on their adventures though the stars, and will work as both a spin-off of Discovery and a prequel to the original Star Trek series.

It’s therefore expected that Paul Wesley’s Kirk will follow a similar storyline to that played out in J.J. Abrams’ 2009 film: namely, that we see Kirk work his way up the ranks of Starfleet to eventually become Captain of the Enterprise.

Strange New Worlds was renewed for a second season in January 2022, with that season already in production in Toronto.

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds premieres on May 5th. Season 2 has yet to announce a release date.
