The first ever live action series based on popular video game franchise Resident Evil will bow on July 14th 2022, Netflix has just announced.
The streaming service promises that the series will “redefine the legendary horror franchise,” going on to state that the series expansion will bring forth the very best of the Resident Evil DNA – bad-ass heroines, some new and familiar creatures, a struggle for survival, and a deep mystery to unravel. Coming from Supernatural executive producer Andrew Dabb, fans can expect fresh storytelling, bone-chilling horror and an action-packed spectacle.
Netflix’s Resident Evil is set in 2036, fourteen years after a deadly virus caused a global apocalypse. Jade Wesker fights for survival in a world overrun by the blood-thirsty infected and insane creatures. In this absolute carnage, Jade is haunted by her past in New Raccoon City, by her father’s chilling connections to the Umbrella Corporation but mostly by what happened to her sister, Billie.
“Resident Evil is my favourite game of all time,” Dabb previously stated. “I’m incredibly excited to tell a new chapter in this amazing story and bring the first ever Resident Evil series to Netflix members around the world. For every type of Resident Evil fan, including those joining us for the first time, the series will be complete with a lot of old friends, and some things (bloodthirsty, insane things) people have never seen before.”
The series stars Lance Reddick (Fringe, Bosch) as Albert Wesker, Ella Balinska (Charlie’s Angels) as Jade Wesker, Tamara Smart, Siena Agudong, Addeline Rudolph, Paola Nuñez, Ahad Raza Mir, Connor Gossatti, and Turlough Convery.
This will mark Netflix’s second foray into the Resident Evil universe, the first being the animated series Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness, which debuted in July last year.
All eight episodes will release July 14th on Netflix.
