Warner Bros. is developing a live-action The Flintstones feature, with Ryan Gosling and Jessie Henderson set to produce for their Open Invite banner. The project is still in its early stages and is actively seeking a screenwriter. We do know that the story is set to focus on Bamm-Bamm Rubble, the son of Fred Flintstone’s good friend, Barney Rubble.

The Flintstones began as an animated series that launched in 1960 and ran for six seasons. Set in ‘the Stone Age’ (though children should note that the series is not historically accurate), it centered on the titular Fred and Wilma Flintstone, their pet dinosaur Dino, their sabre-toothed cat Baby Puss, and their eventual baby girl, Pebbles. It also focused on the Flintstones’ neighbours and best friends, Barney and Betty Rubble, and later their adopted baby boy Bamm-Bamm and pet hopparoo Hoppy.

There’s previously been a live-action The Flintstones movie, released by Universal in 1994, which starred John Goodman and Rick Moranis as Fred and Barney, with Steven Spielberg serving as executive producer. It spawned the 2000 prequel film The Flintstones in Viva Rock Vegas, though the cast did not return.
