In some interesting news, Adam McKay is to direct a big screen adaptation of Irredeemable for 20th Century Fox.

Deadline is reporting that McKay will be helming the movie adaptation of Mark Waid and Peter Krouse’s comic book tale. The writer/director is best known for directing the likes of The Big Short, Step Brothers, and the two Anchorman movies. He’s also no stranger to superheroes, with him at one point being in the frame to direct Ant-Man before he ultimately ended up helping out with the film’s screenplay. He’s also working on the screenplay for the upcoming Ant-Man and The Wasp. For Irredeemable, though, McKay will be solely focussed on directing, with Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters’ Tommy Wirkola penning the movie’s script.

As for Irredeemable itself, the story was first published back in 2009 and essentially tells the tale of a hugely powerful, Superman-esque superhero known as The Plutonian who snaps and becomes the greatest supervillain that the world has ever seen. It’s down to the hero’s former friends to come together and find out what’s drove this once-great icon to his breaking point as they look to bring an end to the carnage that he’s causing.

Expect more on this as it develops.
