A QUIET PLACE: DAY ONE Drops First Trailer!

a quiet place day one trailer stars lupita nyong#o and djimon hounsou

Lupita Nyong’o and her cat face down the apocalypse in New York City, the first trailer for A Quiet Place: Day One, the spinoff prequel film to the John Krasinski and Emily Blunt-starring alien invasion horror movies.

Written and directed by Pig filmmaker Michael Sarnoski and based on an original story by Krasinski and Sarnoski, Day One also stars Stranger Things season 4 star Joseph Quinn, Alex Wolff, and Djimon Hounsou reprising his unnamed role as the “Man from the Island” from A Quiet Place Part II. As the title suggests, the prequel film will explore the very beginning of the invasion in which deadly alien creatures with hyper-sonic hearing dropped their furry-looking asses to Earth. So, as the incredibly brief and detail-light synopsis states, audiences will finally get to “experience the day the world went quiet,” in one of the world’s loudest metropolises. We’re anticipating a high body count.

The film is produced by Paramount Pictures, Platinum Dunes and Sunday Night Productions. Krasinski remains involved with the franchise as a producer alongside Michael Bay, Andrew Form and Brad Fuller.

After very many delays, A Quiet Place: Day One will finally release in cinemas from June 28th. Watch the full trailer below:

Hunter Schafer and Noomi Rapace To Star In Horror PALETTE

upcoming cuckoo star hunter schafer to star in psychological thriller palette

While we eagerly await the release of Hunter Schafer’s Cuckoo – which will have its world premiere next week at the Berlin International Film Festival – it appears the Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes actress has already set her next horror feature: Palette, for which Zach Strauss is both writer and director. It marks Strauss’ feature directorial debut. Deadline also reports that the psychological horror will co-star You Won’t Be Alone‘s Noomi Rapace.

In Palette, Schafer stars as Dolly, a woman suffering from extreme synaesthesia, a rare condition through which she is able to hear colours. Per the synopsis, “she is recruited into a secretive, cult-like industry of colour design, where she discovers the dark reality of what it takes to make the world’s greatest hues.” For her part, Rapace will play the company’s enigmatic executive, Latrice. Frankie Shaw has also been cast as Sidney, Dolly’s cutthroat rival.

“I feel beyond lucky to be making this dark and twisted movie with a truly exceptional cast and with such incredible partners in Anton, I know we’re going to create something really special,” said Strauss.

Producer John Zois praised Strauss’ “compelling and completely distinctive” screenplay. “We are putting together a team that will bring the stunning visuals of the story to the screen. Hunter and Noomi are truly perfect for our two leads and I cannot wait to see them bring these rich and unique characters to life. We could not be more excited about this film.”

An EVIL DEAD Spinoff Film Is On The Way!

Sébastien Vaniček to direct the next evil dead spinoff film

After last year’s Evil Dead Rise became a box office hit, we knew it was only a matter of time until Sam Raimi’s comedy-horror universe was further expanded. Well, now Deadline reports that Sébastien Vaniček has been hired by Sam Raimi and Rob Tapert’s Ghost House Pictures to direct and co-write an untitled Evil Dead spinoff.

Sébastien Vaniček only made his feature debut with Infested (Vermines) in 2023, continuing Raimi’s plan to hand pick up-and-coming filmmakers and invite them to take the Deadites for a spin. The franchise was created by Raimi, with 1981’s same-name film starring Bruce Campbell as Ash Williams launching a trilogy of films. Fede Alvarez then directed his own take on the original classic back in 2013, which paved the way for Lee Cronin’s Evil Dead Rise last year. There was also a Starz TV series, Ash vs. Evil Dead, that launched in 2015 and ran for three seasons.

Infested (Vermines) made its North American premiere at Fantastic Fest recently, having debuted at Venice Film Festival, and will release on Shudder from April 26th. The French-Moroccan film follows “Kaleb, who’s about to turn 30 and has never been lonelier. He’s fighting with his sister over a matter of inheritance and has cut ties with his best friend. Passionate about exotic animals, he comes home one day with a venomous spider and accidentally let it slip away.” It isn’t long before the residents of a rundown French apartment building are forced to battle against an army of deadly, rapidly reproducing spiders.

WINNIE THE POOH Is Back In BLOOD AND HONEY II Trailer

winnie the pooh: blood and honey 2 trailer drops

Last year’s viral horror flick Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey is already getting a sequel this year, with Jagged Edge Productions releasing the first official trailer this week. Rhys Frake-Waterfield returns to the director’s chair for a sequel that’s promising to be even bigger and bloodier than the first film – and the costumes look much better, too. As the filmmaker teased, “this time Pooh and friends will be leaving the 100 Acre Wood to take their fight to the quiet community of Ashdown!”.

Per the official synopsis for Blood and Honey 2, “Deep within the 100-Acre-Wood, a destructive rage grows as Winnie-the-Pooh, Piglet, Owl, and Tigger find their home and their lives endangered after Christopher Robin revealed their existence. Not wanting to live in the shadows any longer, the group decides to take the fight to the town of Ashdown, home of Christopher Robin, leaving a bloody trail of death and mayhem in their wake. Winnie and his savage friends will show everyone that they are deadlier, stronger, and smarter than anyone could ever imagine and get their revenge on Christopher Robin, once and for all.” This is the first time Tigger will appear, given his character appeared in the public domain after the first film released.

Matt Leslie penned the screenplay for the sequel, which stars Tallulah Evans, Scott Chambers, Ryan Oliva, and Peter DeSouza-Feighoney. Bloody Disgusting also reports that Blood and Honey 2 will open up Jagged Edge’s public domain horror ‘verse to include Pinocchio, Bambi, and Peter Pan-inspired genre movies.

For our lucky British readers, we have good news: Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey 2 releases in UK cinemas on Valentine’s Day! Watch the romantic trailer below:

London Lovecraft Festival Cannot Be Stopped

The theatrical celebration of cosmic horror known as The London Lovecraft Festival has returned for its fourth year. The event runs from February 11th to the 12th, 2024 at the Drayton Arms Theatre, London.

The festival will include a staged reading of this year’s winner of the annual Writing Lovecraft competition and will be directed by Lorenzo Peter Mason, who first brought festival founder TL Wiswell’s Mountains of Madness to the stage for the 2016 London Horror Festival.

Highlights include A Night Beneath the Elder Sign, three stories, three storytellers, featuring a fireside reading of The Music of Eric Zann, a shadow puppet show based on the frog-heavy tale The Doom That Came to Sarnath and Sam Enthoven’s “Shivers” brings a spooky spin on fungal fun with The Voice in the Night by William Hope Hodgson.

“I’m really excited about this year’s lineup,” says festival founder TL Wiswell. “I know people would like it to be longer, but I felt having it be compact, and all new shows was a format our audience would support. We’re platforming other weird fiction; we have the new writing comp back, Kai’s back, Shivers is back, and I get to visit the Dreamlands. I mean, of course, I’m shitting frogs at the same time, but it’s what happens when you piss off Bokrug. Next time, don’t mess with random idols; it’s a lesson we should all take to heart.”

The festival closes with Leo Doulton’s Into The Dreamlands, an interactive theatre experience brought to you by the people behind the critically acclaimed (and Neil Patrick Harris-approved) Locksmith’s Dream. The blurb for the event is “You are invited to a demonstration of the alleged powers of a dreamer, to join their ritual and explore the Dreamlands. Together, attendees will control the dreamer’s exploration of that rumoured place of strange cities and peoples.” Sounds fabulous to us.

You can find out more on the Drayton Arms website here: https://www.thedraytonarmstheatre.co.uk/ , which includes booking information. STARBURST has had a lot of fun at previous London Lovecraft Festivals, and 2024’s events promise to be fantastic.

HANNIBAL TV Series Return May Still Happen

Many of us have mourned the loss of Bryan Fuller’s far too short lived Hannibal TV series, which was based on the characters of Thomas Harris and which was a delectably cast and acted, as it was written and shot. The acclaimed take on the source material was one of the most aesthetically interesting and daring pieces of television in recent memory.

So, in 2015, when NBC called for its cancellation after three seasons, many were left as heartbroken as Hannibal Lector when he’s run out of quiche Lorraine (alas we knew her well…). But, ever since there have been discussions of a revival that have kept flaring up, and now title star of the show Mads Mikkelsen, in a discussion with Business Insider, has promisingly said it is very much still a possibility.

In a story fans can get their teeth into, when asked about a potential revival of the series, Mikkelsen said, “It’s no secret that all of us who were part of the cast and Bryan, we all want to go back. It’s got to happen eventually sooner than later because we’re not getting any younger, right?”. Later suggesting it was about, “finding a home for it”. Which in this current age of Television and streaming, should be a bit easier surely?

Even more promisingly, the actor and Fuller have certainly discussed it, as when later in the interview Mikkelsen was asked what shape a potential return might take, he replied with, “He’s got a few ideas, Bryan. So I can’t really reveal any, in case we do start”. So don’t count out Hannibal just yet folks, who knows, they may even start covering the story even more familiar to us from the film adaptations, which the series previously touched upon.

Although we may be waiting a little bit, as Fuller has a certain date (we can’t imagine which one?) at Camp Crystal Lake first.

Netflix’s UNSOLVED MYSTERIES: VOLUME FOUR Confirmed For This Year

Off the back of the iconic original docuseries’ 35th anniversary last year, Netflix have announced that a fourth season (or rather volume) of their exceptional Unsolved Mysteries revival is coming later this year.

Detailing more strange, tragic and compelling unsolved stories, Stranger Things executive producer Shawn Levy’s new take on the show will no doubt continue to do the fantastic work that previous volumes have already. In a testament to the 1987-2010 original run of the programme. From murders, to disappearances, to ghostly stories, to even UFOs and beyond.

No details yet on any potential stories, nor a confirmed release date, but expect the show somewhere around this summer on the streaming platform!

Time Travel Slasher TIME CUT is Coming to Netflix this Year!

The resurgence of the slasher genre is always pleasing to see but of late we have seen some great offerings, from the seasonal slashers like Thanksgiving and It’s A Wonderful Knife to the big franchise fare like David Gordon Green’s Halloween Trilogy and Scream VI. But now, Netflix is having a stab at a new slasher that is being described as “Back To The Future meets Scream”.

From producer Christopher Landon (Freaky, Happy Death Day) and writers Michael Kennedy and Hannah Macpherson (the latter of whom also directs the film), Time Cut sees a teenage girl time travel back to the 2000s to stop a killer from murdering her sister. In this inspired genre hybrid that again sees slashers embrace other genres of late.

The film is confirmed to be hitting Netflix later this year, with the exact date to be a announced.

This is one you’ll want to mark on your calendar, past, present and future…just to be on the safe side!

TIM BURTON’s BEETLEJUICE Sequel gets an Official Title and Poster

We have been waiting a long long time for the ghost with the most to return to the big screen, and we are still in a head spin that it is actually happening this year! As director Tim Burton looks to return to his directorial roots and unleash our favourite Bio-Exorcist back in cinemas! But now we know the title and it is wickedly appropriate…

Officially called Beetlejuice Beetlejuice (oh darn, we can’t say it again now!), this sequel sees Michael Keaton back in the title role, alongside fellow returning cast members Winona Ryder and Catherine O’ Hara who reprise their original roles, as they are joined by many newcomers in this macabre world of the recently deceased, in Jenna Ortega as Astrid Deetz, Monica Bellucci as Mrs. Betelgeuse and Willem Dafoe as B Movie action star turned ghost detective. In a script penned by Alfred Gough and Miles Millar.

Already there has been many positive vibes from this film production, which Keaton called a joy and Burton has relished returning to the old school ways of filmmaking (constructed sets, stop motion and all!!). And we can’t wait to see what is in store for us on September 6th! As this poster says, “the wait is almost over”, and it looks like his number is finally up next!

THANKSGIVING 2 looks to be continuing the story

Last year, Eli Roth’s seasonal slasher Thanksgiving was one of 2023’s tastiest horror treats, and in 2025 it has already been announced that he’s back with second helpings. Joining Roth at the feast will fellow co-screenwriter Jeff Rendell too!

However, we now have a few more details on this upcoming sequel, as it looks like Thanksgiving 2 will be carving further into the story from the last film, rather than being a completely unconnected follow-up (in the vein of many other past slasher sequels).

In a talk with Games Radar, Nell Verlaque and Rick Hoffman both suggested they’d be returning for the sequel, with Verlaque adding, “I think that it’ll be a continuation of where we last saw [Jess]. When I’ve spoken to Eli about what he wants to do, I think he wants to flesh out the characters a lot”.

So, it seems like John Carver will be back for vengeance against some of the ones that escaped his demented dinner last time!
