Liverpool Comic Con 2023: A Celebration of Pop Culture

A date for the diary of every sci-fi nerd and pop-culture fan – Comic Con is returning to Liverpool! Taking place on the 1st and 2nd of April 2023 at the Exhibition Centre Liverpool, the much-anticipated fan event is back for another spectacular weekend of fandom festivities!

Run by Monopoly Events, the weekend is a celebration of all things pop-culture, bringing together fans from all over the world to enjoy a weekend filled with celebrity guests, cosplay, and all the merch you could dream of!

This year’s Comic Con promises to be bigger and better than ever before, with a variety of exciting stalls to peruse of both the merchandise and sweet treat variety, and a range of activities to get involved with such as workshops and competitions. There will be plenty of opportunities to show off your cosplay skills, meet other fans, and immerse yourself in your favourite pop culture franchises. Fans can expect a weekend filled with guest panel talks, film screenings, and fun-filled activities for the whole family that promises an unforgettable experience.

Of course, one of the biggest draws of Comic Cons is the chance to meet your heroes and get autographs and photo ops with your favourite stars. And this year’s Liverpool Comic Con is no exception, with a truly mind-blowing line-up of celebrity guests already confirmed to attend.

Fans of hit shows Wednesday, House of the Dragon, Stranger Things, The Vampire Diaries, and Doctor Who are in for an extra special treat, with actors from all series in attendance, including Emma Myers, Paddy Considine, Jamie Campbell-Bower, Ian Somerhalder, Paul Wesley, Matt Smith, and Michelle Gomez.

But that’s not all! Among the other familiar faces confirmed to be attending this year’s event are the likes of Christopher Mintz-Plasse (Superbad), Taylor Lautner (The Twilight Saga), Corey Feldman (The Lost Boys), Christopher Heyerdahl (The Last of Us), and the cast of Red Dead Redemption, Aladdin, Police Academy. All these and more will be available for photographs and autographs!

There’s also a limited number of meet-and-greet tickets available for some of the guests, so remember to keep an eye out for your favourites!

As always, photo and autograph tickets tend to sell like hotcakes, so be sure to book in advance to avoid disappointment.

Dark Feature CARA Cast Announced

Cara, the eagerly-awaited feature debut for director Hayden Hewitt, is set to go into production in May, and the cast is building to be full of high-class genre favourites.

The cast list currently boasts Elle O’Hara as the titular character, and she’s joined by Michaela Longden (Eating Miss Campbell), STARBURST Fantasy Award-winner Johnny Vivash (Freeze), James Dreyfus (Gimme Gimme Gimme), Laurence R. Harvey (The Human Centipede 2 and 3), and Anthony Quinlan (Emmerdale). More names will be announced soon.

The official synopsis for Cara is as follows:

Cara is a young woman tormented by a horrific past of abuse and mental health problems who believes people are conspiring to return her to the mental institution she was so desperate to escape. Cara has a plan, a devastating and terrible plan. She uses the viewers of her shows to make it a reality leaving behind a trail of horror. Cara is a black journey which tackles mental health issues, pornography, substance abuse, physical abuse, and horrific violence. A dark journey which will leave no viewer untouched.

The blood-soaked Korean film Project Wolf Hunting is screening in selected cinemas as well as being available to stream on Icon Channel, and we have an exclusive, gore-filled clip to share. Be warned: blood and bad language flow freely.

During an extradition from the Philippines to South Korea, a group of dangerous criminals unite to stage a coordinated escape attempt from their floating prison. As the jailbreak escalates into a bloody, all-out riot, the fugitives and their allies from the outside exact a brutal terror campaign against the special agents on board the 58,000-ton cargo ship. But the prisoners aren’t the only ones waiting to rise from the darkness – the freighter may harbour an even more sinister enemy…

Edinburgh International Film Festival Returns For 2023

The 76th Edinburgh International Film Festival will happen this August. The future of the festival was in doubt last year when the charity responsible for the festival went into administration.

A compact programme designed to complement local and international creators will run alongside the Edinburgh International Festival from 18th of August to the 23rd, and will be part of the International Festival. It will be ran in partnership with Screen Scotland.

Kate Taylor, Programme Director, Edinburgh International Film Festival, said: “Attending first as audience member, then as film worker, my experience of Edinburgh International Film Festival has always been of a place that sparks inspiring conversations about film, and over the past few months it has been nourishing to hear the stories of many people – filmmakers, audience and industry who hold this festival dear. I’m excited to deliver the ideas that the team and I have been working on over the past few months and be a custodian for this year’s programme, ensuring the flame of EIFF burns bright, and I can’t wait to welcome audiences to enjoy the curated selection of films we’ll be presenting in August.”
