“A new generation of heroes will rise, straight from the sewer,” proclaims the first trailer for producer Seth Rogen’s animated film, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem.

The near-two-minute trailer begins with the four brothers playing around on the roof of a New York building when they accidentally flick a throwing star over the edge and get themselves into trouble. Donatello (Micah Abbey), Michelangelo (Shamon Brown Jr.), Leonardo (Nicolas Cantu) and Raphael (Brady Noon) then seek to get back into New Yorkers’ good graces by performing heroic acts of service for the city. However, when they take on a mysterious and dangerous crime syndicate with the help of their new friend, April O’Neil (Ayo Edebiri), the turtles find themselves in over their heads and a mutant army is unleashed.

Jackie Chan also leads the cast as rat mentor Splinter, joined by Rogen as the villain Bebop, John Cena as Rocksteady, Hannibal Buress as Genghis Frog, Rose Byrne as Leatherhead, Ice Cube as Superfly, Natasia Demetriou as Wingnut, Giancarlo Esposito as Baxter Stockman, Post Malone as Ray Fillet, Paul Rudd as Mondo Gecko, and Maya Rudolph as Cynthia Utrom.

Mutant Mayhem clearly takes stylistic inspiration from beloved film Spider-Man: Into the Spider-verse, with stunning artwork and vibrant, painterly colouring. The Mitchells Vs The Machines‘ Jeff Rowe is in the director’s seat alongside Kyler Spears

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem hits cinemas on August 4th. Watch the trailer below:
