Jon Bernthal is reprising his best role as Frank Castle/the Punisher in Marvel Studios’ upcoming Daredevil: Born Again for Disney+.

Bernthal joins Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio as Matt Murdock/Daredevil and Wilson Fisk/Kingpin, respectively. The epic 18-episode series begins shooting in New York this month, ahead of an expected release in spring of 2024.

Bernthal first played Castle in the second season of Netflix’s Daredevil series, and went on to headline his own series for the streamer, playing the titular role in The Punisher over its two-season run.

While it looked like the end of the road for the cast of Marvel’s Netflix era of television – which also included the series Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, and The Defenders – until Marvel head Kevin Feige revealed in 2021 that he considered the Netflix characters part of the MCU canon.

The news was quickly followed by Cox’s return to the fore with a cameo in Spider-Man: No Way Home and an appearance in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law. D’Onofrio’s Kingpin, in turn, appeared in Hawkeye. Both stars are also set to play a significant part in the upcoming series Echo, starring Alaqua Cox.

Nothing is known about the plot of Daredevil: Born Again, but it’s exciting to hear that the Netflix gang is well and truly getting back together. Stay tuned for further updates as the series begins shooting!

THR first reported the news of Bernthal’s return.
