Crowdfunder for New Amicus Feature is Live and Smashing It

amicus grip of terror

The infamous Amicus Productions will be rising from the grave thanks to the team led by Lawrie Brewster, head honcho of Hex Media. The crowdfunder has already gone down gangbusters on Kickstarter (with well over half the initial target reached within hours of launching), and the hopes of resurrecting the classic horror name look assured. However, it’s not just the name that will be back; it will be the charm of features such as Tales from the Crypt and The Vault of Horror, brought up to date with a modern aesthetic.

The first film under the Amicus banner will be, appropriately, an anthology entitled In the Grip of Terror. You can check out details of the twisted stories – based on tales from the likes of H.P. Lovecraft and Ambrose Bierce – that will make up the movie on the movie’s Kickstarter page.

The team behind the project explained the rebirth of Amicus Productions, “We’re working in collaboration with Milton Subotsky’s sons Sergei and Dmitri and the Subotsky family on our project, which boasts a passionate team of genre horror filmmakers. Some of these team members may already be familiar to you from our past Kickstarter campaigns. Notably, we have Lawrie Brewster and Sarah Daly from Hex Studios, who are celebrated for their works such as ‘Lord of Tears’ and ‘The Unkindness of Ravens’. These films, among their numerous other indie hits, have received wide acclaim for their distinctive retro aesthetic.”

“Our filmmaking team is also dedicating countless hours to create the sets, props, and practical effects that will feature in ‘The Grip of Terror’. This includes everything from a hospital wing to a complex and intriguing laboratory!”

The Kickstarter campaign runs for 30 days and has plenty of fantastic rewards available for backers, with stretch goals no doubt a surety. Get involved by heading to https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/lawriebrewster/in-the-grip-of-terror-by-amicus-productions-horror-movie.

First Look At Netflix’s Animated Adaptation Of Roald Dahl’s THE TWITS

the twits netflix film adaptation

The Oscar-nominated filmmaker behind such titles as Zootopia and Wreck-It Ralph, Phil Johnston, has adapted The Twits into an animated feature set to hit Netflix in 2025. Based on the children’s novel by Roald Dahl, the feature is co-written by Johnston and Meg Favreau and marks the first time the story has been adapted for the screen.

The animation, which hails from the Brixton-based studio Jellyfish Pictures, follows Mr. and Mrs. Twit, the meanest, smelliest, nastiest people in the world, who also happen to own and operate the most disgusting, most dangerous, most idiotic amusement park in the world, Twitlandia. But when the Twits rise to power in their town, two brave orphans and a family of magical animals are forced to become as tricky as the Twits in order to save the city.

The feature will differ from the source material by adding in two orphans, likely to give the story a more film-friendly structure. Dahl’s book just follows the Twits as they play vicious pranks on each other.

Netflix has stated that The Twits will be their first animated release in an upcoming line-up of Dahl adaptations – thanks to the streamer acquiring the Roald Dahl Story Company in 2021 –, including Wes Anderson’s The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar and an animated Charlie and the Chocolate Factory feature.

tom delonge directorial debut monsters of california trailer

Blink-182 member and UFO research champion Tom Delonge is making his debut in the film sphere, releasing the trailer for his first directorial feature, Monsters of California. The sci-fi film focuses on an outcast group of high school friends’ efforts to uncover a major government conspiracy.

DeLonge directs from a script he co-wrote with Ian Miller and Ben Kull. It stars Jack Samson, Casper Van Dien, Camille Kostek, Richard Kind, and Arianne Zucker. After discovering research left behind by a missing government agent, Monsters of California sees Dallas Edwards (Samson) and his friends pitted against the political establishment in their attempt to unearth a paranormal conspiracy in Southern California.

As is right, the trailer heavily features a version of the Blink-182 song “Aliens Exist”, which tells you all you need to know about the nature of this government conspiracy. Anyone else getting flashbacks to this summer’s US congressional hearings?

“If you take skateboarders, UFOs and Bigfoot, which pretty much sums up my entire life, you get a wild ride that will remind everyone of our early love of Amblin Films that inspired so many,” DeLonge promises of his upcoming sci-fi adventure.

TOTALLY KILLER Trailer Goes Back To The ’80s

kiernan shipka in totally killer trailer

Kiernan Shipka is kicking ass and trying to stop a serial killer in the trailer for time-travelling comedy slasher Totally Killer, which hails from Blumhouse and Prime Video.

Per the synopsis, Totally Killer follows the infamous “Sweet Sixteen Killer” as they return on Halloween night, 35 years after their shocking murder of three teens, to claim a fourth victim. 17-year-old Jamie (Shipka) ignores her overprotective mom’s (Julie Bowen) warning and comes face-to-face with the masked maniac and, on the run for her life, accidentally time travels back to 1987, to the day before the murderer’s first killing. She’s then forced to navigate the unfamiliar and outrageous culture of the 1980s, teaming up with a teenage version of her mom (Olivia Holt) to take down the killer once and for all, before she’s stuck in the past forever.

Think of it as Back to the Future meets Scream, with a sprinkle of Minority Report thrown in. Basically, this looks like an absolute blast.

Directed by Always Be My Maybe filmmaker Nahnatchka Khan, Totally Killer is co-written by David Matalon, Sasha Perl-Raver and Jen D’Angelo. The cast also includes Randall Park, Charlie Gillespie, Lochlyn Munro, Troy Leigh-Anne Johnson, Liana Liberato, Kelcey Mawema, Stephi Chin-Salvo, Anna Diaz, Ella Choi, Jeremy Monn-Djasgnar, Nathaniel Appiah, and Jonathan Potts.
