Ridley Scott‘s thriller feature The Dog Stars may have found the star to replace Paul Mescal: Priscilla and Euphoria‘s Jacob Elordi. The actor is reportedly in early negotiations to replace Mescal, who had previously been set to star in the 20th Century Studios film, an adaptation of Peter Heller’s 2012 apocalyptic novel written by Mark L. Smith and Christopher Wilkinson.

Set in Colorado after the world’s population has been ravaged by a pandemic, The Dog Stars centres on a civilian pilot living on an abandoned airbase with his dog and an ex-Marine he has befriended. When a mysterious transmission comes through on the radio while he is flying his 1956 Cessna, it sparks a hunt for the provenance of the sound in hopes of a better life.

Mescal, who would have been reteaming with Ridley Scott after working together on Gladiator II, reportedly had to drop out of the pic due to being busy with Sam Mendes’ four-film Beatles project. Though unconfirmed, Mescal will reportedly be playing Paul McCartney.

Jacob Elordi is also busy, set to star in the Prime Video series The Narrow Road to the Deep North, and in the upcoming features Wuthering Heights and Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein.

Aquaman star Jason Momoa is getting a new role in Peter Safran and James Gunn’s relaunched DC movie universe. The actor will appear in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow as Lobo, the alien bounty hunter who first appeared in the comics in 1983.

Jason Momoa has long expressed his desire to portray the character, having stated on the Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom press tour: “So Lobo was… I collect comics, and I don’t do so much anymore, but he was always my favorite, because I’m like, ‘Hello? It’s the perfect role.’ I mean, listen. If they called and asked me to play him, it’s a f*ck yeah. I haven’t received that call, so I don’t want to put any fake news out there, but if they ever call me and ask me to play, or ask me to audition, I’m there.”. The actor posted a screenshot of the quote to his Instagram, simply captioning it, “They called.”

There have been numerous attempts to bring Lobo to the big screen in the past, but the only time it was realised was for the small screen, when Emmett J. Scanlan played Lobo on the SyFy series Krypton. Created by writer Roger Slifer and artist Keith Griffen, Lobo first appeared in Omega Men No. 3, a blue-skinned, cigar-smoking alien with superstrength and healing powers.

Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow arrives in cinemas from June 26th, 2026, and stars Milly Alcock as the titular superhero.

PACIFIC DRIVE Game Gets TV Series Treatment From James Wan

pacific drive video game

Ironwood Studios’ supernatural survival-horror video game Pacific Drive became a surprise hit when it was released earlier this year. It’s perhaps no surprise, then, that James Wan’s Atomic Monster banner has acquired the rights to develop Pacific Drive as a television series.

The Game Award-nominated indie title created by Cassandra Dracott is described as “a retropunk-style driving and survival game set to an experimental electronic music soundtrack that challenges players to escape a surreal and abandoned exclusion zone with their car as their only companion in the dark and chilling world… each excursion into the wilderness brings unique and strange challenges as you restore and upgrade your car from an abandoned garage that acts as your home base. Gather precious resources and investigate what’s been left behind in the Zone; unravel a long-forgotten mystery while learning exactly what it takes to survive in this unpredictable, hostile environment.” The game puts players behind the wheel of a station wagon stranded in a supernaturally-afflicted 1990s Pacific Northwest, where players must weather radioactive storms, sentient dumpsters, and other dangerous obstacles.

James Wan and Atomic Monster’s Michael Clear and Rob Hackett will executive produce the TV series, along with Jeff Ludwig of The Menagerie Productions. The series has not been picked up by a streamer or network.

Stay tuned for more news and updates on this adaptation as we hear!

mason gooding in scream franchise

Mason Gooding is confirmed as the first returning member from the Scream franchise’s so-called Core Four. Gooding will reprise his role as Chad Meeks-Martin in Scream 7 for Spyglass Entertainment and Paramount Pictures.

Also set to star in Scream 7 is franchise returnee Neve Campbell as Sidney Prescott, alongside new cast members Isabel May, Celeste O’Connor, Asa Germann, Mckenna Grace and Sam Rechner. Kevin Williamson, who penned the original Scream film in 1996, is directing the new film from a script by Guy Busick.

Of the Core Four who revitalised the Scream franchise in 2022, Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega will not be returning, while there has been no confirmation on whether Jasmin Savoy Brown will appear in Scream 7. Barrera was fired from the franchise following social media posts addressing the Israel-Hamas war, and Ortega exited due to pursuing other projects. Christopher Landon, who was due to direct the instalment, also stepped away following news of these exits.

Back in March, Gooding addressed the production delays, cast shakeups, and creative overhauls, stating to Variety: “If it could make money, I guarantee, they’re making it. It’s all about keeping up with what feels like is the best movie for the fans. ‘Scream’ doesn’t exist without the people who enjoy is as much as they do. … If people want it, they will certainly try their best to see it happen.”

Mason Gooding will next be seen opposite Rachel Zegler in the A24 apocalypse comedy Y2K, before featuring in Heart Eyes opposite Olivia Holt.

Amicus Productions Wraps IN THE GRIP OF TERROR

Amicus Productions, the iconic British horror brand synonymous with classic anthology films and reborn with the approval of co-creator Milton Subotsky’s estate, has wrapped the production of the first new film in almost 50 years, In the Grip of Terror.

Recently added to the superb cast list is famed actress and Golden Globe nominee Jane Merrow (The Lion in Winter and Hammer’s Hands of the Ripper) in its highly anticipated return to the genre. She stars as Matron Margaret, a commanding figure in the chilling hospital-set segment The One-Way Ward, inspired by H.P. Lovecraft’s horror short story Cool Air.

Adding further gravitas to the cast is veteran character actor Jonathan Hansler (AxedThe Devil’s Machine), who takes on the role of Professor Walker, bringing his wealth of pathos and trademark intensity to this gripping tale of terror. STARBURST favourite and all-round good egg Laurence R. Harvey (The Human Centipede 2, The Editor) will appear as Dr Graves.

Megan Tremethick (Ghost CrewThe Slave and the Sorcerer) had already been announced for the project. Tremethick’s work has been described as ‘standout’ for its nuance and emotional depth, earning her recognition as an emerging talent in the genre.

The film also features Chris Capaldi, known as the former face of Scotch Beef, who plays Doctor Richard Maitland. Reviving the Amicus tradition of characters named Maitland, Capaldi’s portrayal brings a subtle nod to the studio’s storied history while adding a fresh, compelling presence to The One-Way Ward.

The One-Way Ward relocates Lovecraft’s atmospheric tale to an ominous hospital that harbours a deadly secret. This segment is part of In the Grip of Terror, the first Amicus Productions horror anthology since From Beyond the Grave (1974). It marks a triumphant return to the studio’s celebrated anthology format and its legacy of chilling interconnected tales.

Directed by Lawrie Brewster of Hex Studios (AutomataThe Black Gloves), the film is co-produced by Brewster and Sarah Daly, with Sergei Subotsky serving as Executive Producer. The film is a co-production between Amicus Productions, the British Horror Studio, and Hex Studios, uniting forces to deliver a chilling cinematic experience.

The studio has revealed a collection of character photographs, offering a glimpse into the Gothic elegance and eerie atmosphere of In the Grip of Terror.

The film is set for release in 2025. Watch this space for more details.

THE ELECTRIC STATE Trailer Unites Chris Pratt And Millie Bobby Brown

a giant robot carrying a vw bus in the electric state trailer

Millie Bobby Brown and Chris Pratt are on a dangerous mission in the new trailer for Netflix‘s sci-fi feature The Electric State. Directed by MCU helmers Anthony Russo and Joe Russo, the story centres on teenager Michelle (Brown) and her robot friend joining an eccentric wanderer (Pratt, with a horrendous wig and handlebar moustache) to track down the girl’s missing younger brother in an alternate 1994, following a war between humans and machines that’s seen robots exiled from humans.

The star-studded cast includes Everything Everywhere All At Once star Ke Huy Quan, Jason Alexander, Woody Norman, Giancarlo Esposito, and Stanley Tucci. Woody Harrelson, Anthony Mackie, Brian Cox, Jenny Slate, Hank Azaria, Colman Domingo and Alan Tudyk also lend their voices to a host of characters.

The Russo brothers helmed the film from a script by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely that is based on author Simon Stalenhag’s 2018 novel of the same name. Joe Russo, Anthony Russo, Mike Larocca, Angela Russo-Otstot, Chris Castaldi and Patrick Newall serve as producers.

The Netflix production appears to take a much more colourful, pop actioner approach to the source material, where the novel was described as melancholic and reflective.

The Electric State is set for release on the Netflix platform on March 14th, 2025. Watch the trailer below:

DEATH OF A UNICORN Trailer Invites You To Poke Around & Find Out

jenna ortega in trailer for death of a unicorn

Jenna Ortega and Paul Rudd could make a killing in the first trailer for Death of a Unicorn. Alex Scharfman writes and directs the A24 horror-comedy feature, which also stars Will Poulter, Téa Leoni, Richard E. Grant, Anthony Carrigan, Sunita Mani and Jessica Hynes.

Death of a Unicorn centres on a father (Rudd) and daughter (Ortega) who are headed to a weekend getaway with his billionaire boss (Grant) when the pair strike a unicorn with their car. Complications ensue when the boss realises that the unicorn gives miraculous benefits, including curing cancer.

Excitingly, though, the unicorn has pals who don’t seem to take kindly to their friend’s body being experimented on. A mythical creature-on-human killing spree ensues.

Death of a Unicorn marks Alex Scharfman’s directorial debut, from a screenplay he wrote. Prior to this, he’s produced such notable indies as Blow the Man Down and Resurrection, among other titles.

Producers include Scharfman, Tyler Campellone, Tim Headington, Drew Houpt, Lucas Joaquin, Lars Knudsen and Theresa Steele Page. Among the executive producers are Ortega, Rudd and horror auteur Ari Aster.

The exact release date has not yet been specified, but Death of a Unicorn will be shoehorning its way into screens in Spring 2025. Watch the trailer below:

Bidding War Surrounds HOMEWRECKERS, The Glen Powell-Starring Erotic Thriller

glen powell in top gun: maverick . to star in homewreckers

Glen Powell is attached to star in and produce Homewreckers, an erotic thriller with a sci-fi twist. Legendary, Lionsgate, New Regency, Sony and Warner Bros. are among the companies bidding on the project, reports THR, which was unveiled early this week.

The unpublished three-chapter short story is by Neil M. Paik, who will also write the script. Details are being kept under lock and key. Still, sources state that the tones are reminiscent of Adrian Lyne, who made the steamy thriller Fatal Attraction and is known for sexually charged narratives about conflicting passions, seduction, moral ambiguity, betrayal, and infidelity, and Alex Garland, known for films exploring contemporary anxieties and whose works include Ex Machina and Civil War.

News of the project caps a banner year for Glen Powell, who headlined the comedy Anyone But You with Sydney Sweeney, the romantic comedy/actioner Hit Man, and the tornado flick Twisters. For upcoming projects, Powell is in very high demand and will soon be seen in the thriller Huntington opposite Margaret Qualley, in Edgar Wright’s The Running Man opposite Josh Brolin, in J.J. Abrams’ mystery Warner Bros film with Jenna Ortega, and many more.

Expect more news on this Homewreckers feature film soon.
