After scoring Netflix a Best Animated Feature Academy Award last weekend, Guillermo del Toro is continuing his partnership with the streamer for his next project, a live-action Frankenstein feature. Del Toro will both write and direct the picture.

The monster-loving director is already homing in on a cast: according to Deadline, del Toro is eyeing Oscar Isaac (Star Wars sequel trilogy, Moon Knight, Helltown), Andrew Garfield (Spider-Man: No Way Home, Tick, Tick… Boom!), and Mia Goth (Pearl, Infinity Pool) for undisclosed roles. Each actor has met with del Toro and have all expressed their interest in working on the project. However, no formal offers have yet been sent out, as the director is still working on the script.

Del Toro has been developing the project, based on English author Mary Shelley’s seminal 1818 novel, for a number of years, though it’s unclear how faithfully he intends to interpret the source material, or what period the story would be set in. Expect more details as the project develops.

Frankenstein would be the Mexican filmmaker’s third collaboration with Netflix as part of his multi-year deal, the first being the anthology series Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities, and the second being his stop-motion Pinocchio feature.
