Kevin Bacon is returning to horror with the upcoming film Summoner, which is being penned and directed by Mortal Kombat II writer Jeremy Slater. Despite having written for high-profile projects like Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, The Umbrella Academy and The Exorcist television series, this will mark Slater’s directorial debut.
Appropriately, Summoner centres on an exorcist named Jefferson Haddock (Bacon, ha), who is called into an isolated witness protection property to deal with a terrifying demon, and accidentally unleashes a force that threatens to end him and everything around him.
Horror filmmaker Andy Muschietti and Barbabara Muschietti will produce Summoner via their Nocturna label, alongside Russell Ackerman. Nocturna was behind Warner Bros.’ horror They Will Kill You earlier this year. Longlegs‘ Dan Kagan is executive producing. Summoner is set up at Amazon MGM Studios.
Bacon was recently seen in the comedy-horror Family Movie, which he directed and starred in with his wife, Kyra Sedwick, alongside their children, Travis Bacon and Sosie Bacon. The film premiered at SXSW Film Festival. He also executive produced and starred in the Blumhouse supernatural horror series The Bondsman and appeared in Netflix’s limited series Sirens.
