20th Century Studios has hired Josh Cooley, the animation filmmaker behind Toy Story 4 and Transformers One, to pen the live-action adaptation of the video game, 99 Nights in the Forest.

The studio had picked up theatrical film rights to the game earlier this year. The project marks the first time the Disney studio arm is tackling a feature adaptation of a video game, a subgenre that has proven rather popular over the last few years and continues to attract projects.

The project also has Sam Raimi and Rob Tapert as producers, though who might direct is still unknown. The game’s developers, Alec Kieft, Matthew Hufton and Cameron Angland, are executive producing, as are Romel Adam (Evil Dead Rise) and Jose Cañas (Play Dead).

99 Nights in the Forest is an action-survival game where players must endure 99 nights in a haunted forest while attempting to rescue four lost children and fight the creatures that call the woods home.

Other projects Cooley has worked on include Pixar favourites Inside Out, Coco, Incredibles 2, Onward, and Soul.
