Anya Taylor-Joy and Chris Evans face off in the trailer for Netflix’s action-adventure comedy, Sacrifice. Director Romain Gravas’ feature will release on the streamer on October 16th, having premiered at last year’s Toronto International Film Festival. Also starring are Vincent Cassel, Sam Richardson, John Malkovich, and Salma Hayek Pinault.
Sacrifice centres on a fading movie star (Evans) who is attending an environmental gala when he and two other guests are taken hostage by Joan (Taylor-Joy) and her radical followers. Their group believes that a volcanic event is about to cleanse the planet, and that the only way to save humanity is to sacrifice three people.
“We need only three of you,” Taylor-Joy’s character explains in the trailer. “An extinction event is coming. The mountain of fire is famished, so we must offer you into its magma.”
Gavras, best known for helming Athena, directed the movie from a script he co-wrote with Succession’s Will Arbery. Producers include Gavras, Robert Walak, Jacob Perlin, Gregory Jankilevitsch, Klaudia Śmieja-Rostworowska, and Giorgios Karnavas.
Both Evans and Taylor-Joy are heading into a big and busy season, with Evans returning as Steve Rogers/Captain America in the forthcoming Avengers: Doomsday, and Taylor-Joy starring in Dune: Part Three. Both tentpoles hit cinemas on December 18th.
