Warner Bros.’ Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow has found its star in House of the Dragon actress Milly Alcock. Also known as Kara Zor-El, Supergirl is the cousin of Superman, who in Peter Safran and James Gunn’s rebooted DCEU will be played by David Corenswet.
Alcock was reportedly up against Meg Donnelly for the role. The character of Supergirl is expected to appear in one or more DC Studios projects before soaring into her solo adventure, though it’s not yet known whether she’ll feature in the upcoming Superman: Legacy, which starts filming this spring. Ana Nogueira is penning the script for Supergirl, and no director has yet been locked in.
Milly Alcock soared to fame last year as the younger version of Rhaenyra Targaryen in HBO’s House of the Dragon. “Milly is a fantastically talented young actor, and I’m incredibly excited about her being a part of the DCU,” Gunn wrote on Instagram. “Yes, I first became aware of her in House of the Dragon but I was blown away by her varied auditions and screen tests for #Supergirl. She embodies Kara as envisioned by [comic book writer Tom King, comic book artist Bilquis Evely, and screenwriter Nogueira].”
Woman of Tomorrow is part of Chapter 1 in Gunn and Safran’s DC slate. Also included in this chapter are the Batman feature The Brave and the Bold, and a series starring Viola Davis as her Suicide Squad character Amanda Waller.
