Ryan Kiera Armstrong will co-star opposite Sarah Michelle Gellar in the Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot series, which has a pilot order at Hulu, Deadline reports. The fifteen-year-old actress will play the new slayer in the as-yet-untitled project, which Gellar executive produces as well as reprising her signature role as Buffy Summers.

Oscar winner Chloé Zhao (Nomadland, Eternals) is directing the pilot, written by Nora and Lilla Zuckerman. There’s very little information available about the project, but it is being referred to as the next chapter in the Buffyverse, which comes from 20th Century Television and Searchlight TV. Armstrong’s character is being described as an introverted high-school student.

“From the moment I saw Ryan’s audition, I knew there was only one girl that I wanted by my side,” Gellar said. “To have that kind of emotional intelligence, and talent, at such a young age is truly a gift. The bonus is that her smile lights up even the darkest room.”

“I’m so honoured, thank you for trusting me,” Armstrong said through tears in a video call, when Gellar welcomed her to Sunnydale.

Ryan Kiera Armstrong previously acted in It: Chapter Two, The Tomorrow War, The Glorias, and the MCU’s Black Widow. She also played the lead in Firestarter, and starred opposite Nicolas Cage in The Old Way. In television, she had a major recurring role in Anne with an E, and in American Horror Story: Red Tide. She had a starring role opposite Jude Law in Star Wars: Skeleton Crew.
