Release Date Set For SAW XI

saw xi gets release date, still from saw x

Sharpen your tools and finalise your traps, because Lionsgate has set a release date for Saw XI! The horror franchise’s latest entry will be landing in cinemas on September 27th, 2024, the studio announced via their Saw Instagram account. It marks almost exactly one year between it and the previous film, a surprisingly fast turnaround.

The latest instalment, Saw X, was a critical hit for the franchise and became the first in the long-running series to earn a Fresh score on Rotten Tomatoes. Saw X turned its relatively more sympathetic eye towards Tobin Bell’s John ‘Jigsaw’ Kramer, as the story saw him, sick and desperate, travel to Mexico for a risky, experimental medical procedure he hopes will provide a miracle cure for his terminal cancer. Soon, however, he learns that the operation is a scam to defraud the most vulnerable. Obviously, Kramer then decides to return to his work, turning the tables on the con artists in his signature way: with deranged, elaborate, deadly traps.

As for what Saw XI might have in store for fans, we know absolutely nothing yet besides the release date. So, stay tuned for more information, like who will be directing the instalment, as we hear it!

George R.R. Martin Says HOUSE OF THE DRAGON Seasons 3 & 4 Are Underway

house of the dragon season 2 trailer

We already know that House of the Dragon will be returning for a second season in the summer of 2024, but Westeros architect George R.R. Martin recently took to his blog to also tease a third and fourth season of the Targaryen-centric, Game of Thrones prequel series.

Recounting a recent trip to London, the Song of Ice and Fire author writes: “I also spent two days locked in a room with [showrunner] Ryan Condal and his writing staff (Sara Hess, Ti Mikkel, David Hancock, and Philippa Goslett) talking about the third and fourth seasons of HOUSE OF THE DRAGON. They were lively, fun discussions, and we got some good work done… though two days was not nearly enough. There is so much ground to cover that I am not sure twenty days would have been enough.”

Martin continues to tease the upcoming second season of the show: “The highlight of the trip, though, had to be the sneak preview that Ryan gave me of the first two episodes of HOUSE OF THE DRAGON, season two. (Rough cuts, of course). Of course, I am hardly objective when talking about anything based on my own work… but I have to say, I thought both episodes were just great. (And they are not even finished yet). Dark, mind you. Very dark. They may make you cry. (I did not cry myself, but one of my friends did). Powerful, emotional, gut-wrenching, heart rending. Just the sort of thing I like. (What can I say? I was weaned on Shakespeare, and love the tragedies and history plays best of all).”

Until then, you can watch the teaser trailer for House of the Dragon season 2 below:

DIE HARD Christmas Debate Solved!

It’s December, and that means it’s time for the season’s most meaningless debate. Is Die Hard a Christmas movie?

Well, STARBURST is delighted to announce that the debate can now be settled; Die Hard is available as a panto, which, as any British person means, makes it innately Christmas-like!

In the UK, Pantomime (aka Panto) is an over-top stage production involving outlandish costumes, parody versions of popular pop songs and family-friendly humour. They run during the Christmas holiday period and include stories such as Peter Pan, Aladdin, Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty. Panto story’s don’t have to be ‘Christmas’ in flavour, but are somehow part of the season, thanks to the magic of Panto.

A Good Panto Die Hard debuted at 2023’s Edinburgh Fringe and was a sell-out show. So there you have it; Die Hard is officially part of the Christmas tradition.

Bleecker Street Acquires SASQUATCH SUNSET

Bleecker Street has acquired the U.S. distribution rights to Sasquatch Sunset, the upcoming feature film from filmmakers David and Nathan Zellner (The Treasure Hunter), Deadline reports.

Riley Keough, Jesse Eisenberg, Nathan Zellner and Christophe Zajac-Denek star in the film. An air of mystery shrouds the film, and plot details remain scarce – other than it’s described as “a year in the life of a singular family”. Oh, and Eisenberg is playing a Sasquatch. You know, the big, hairy cryptid? Yep.

As the Vivarium and Zombieland actor teased in a recent interview with Variety, “I play a Sasquatch: full makeup, full body hair, no lines. I grunt, but no lines. I’m so looking forward to this.”

The Zellner Brothers have previously helmed the Sundance award-winning short film Sasquatch Birth Journal 2 in 2010, so Sasquatch Sunset feels like a project years in the making. Plus, we know this feature is executive produced by Beau is Afraid director and modern horror auteur Ari Aster, which is yet more reason to be excited for this project.

Bleecker Street will release Sasquatch Sunset to cinemas in 2024. Stay tuned for additional details on the project as we hear it!

Angelina Jolie Confirmed To Return For MALEFICENT 3

angelina jolie to return as maleficent

Angelina Jolie will indeed be returning as the deliciously villainous Maleficent for Disney’s live action threequel.

A new profile by The Wall Street Journal confirms that Angelina Jolie is currently attached to star in a third film, though there’s no information on when to expect its release. In the interview, the publication mentioned Jolie was considering moving away from acting and Hollywood, but is “signed on to act in several more [films], including a third Maleficent.”

The first film, which released in 2014, reimagined the old Sleeping Beauty story by making Maleficent a sympathetic, empathetic character. Maleficent: Mistress of Evil continued the story in 2019 and reunited Maleficent and Aurora (Elle Fanning) five years on from the original events, as they battle against Queen Ingrith, played by the ever-wonderful Michelle Pfeiffer.

There’s no word on whether anyone apart from Jolie is returning for Maleficent 3, but it seems likely that Elle Fanning, Harris Dickinson and Sam Riley will reprise their roles as Aurora, Prince Phillip, and Diaval. There are also no updates on who might write the script for the upcoming film, nor who might sit in the director’s chair, so stay tuned to find out more as we do!

anthony starr as homelander in the boys season 4 teaser trailer

In the first teaser trailer for The Boys season 4, the world is on the brink. Victoria Neuman (Claudia Doumit) is closer than ever to the Oval Office and under the muscly thumb of Homelander (Antony Starr), who is consolidating his power. Butcher (Karl Urban), with only months to live, has lost Becca’s son as well as his job as The Boys’ leader. The rest of the team are fed up with his lies. With the stakes higher than ever, they have to find a way to work together and save the world before it’s too late.

Sharing the teaser as part of Prime Video’s CCXP event in São Paulo, the streaming service also took to X/Twitter to drop a few hints about what fans can expect from the upcoming season. “Timeline wise, it takes place about a month after the events of the Gen V finale,” the tweet reads, referring to the college-based spinoff series. “Butcher knows about the virus. Do with that lil piece of intel what ya will. Homelander will stand trial for lasering a Starlighter’s head off. Vought even made a hashtag for the occasion. #HomeFree.” It continues: “The events of Season 4 will lead into Gen V Season 2. Do you need to watch both shows to understand one or the other? No. Should you? Abso-fuckin-lutely.”

The teaser also gives us our first look at Jeffrey Dean Morgan‘s character, who appears friendly with Butcher, but gives away nothing more about his identity or role in the series.

The season is expected to premiere in 2024. Watch the trailer for The Boys season 4 below:
