We might currently be buzzing about Godzilla Minus One, but the first trailer for Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire has us just as excited.

The latest feature in Warner Bros. and Legendary Entertainment‘s Monsterverse follows the events of 2021’s Godzilla vs. Kong, where fans saw the two kaiju icons fight for supremacy. Now, in The New Empire, it seems those two are going to have to work through their issues and work together against an even more formidable Titan menace.

Godzilla vs. Kong filmmaker Adam Wingard is back in the director’s chair, with cast members Rebecca Hall, Brian Tyree Henry, and Kaylee Hottle also returning. Dan Stevens also stars with Fala Chen, Alex Ferns and Rachel House. The script hails from Terry Rossio, Simon Barrett and Jeremy Slater.

Though the official synopsis doesn’t give much away, you can read it here: “This latest entry follows up the explosive showdown of Godzilla vs. Kong with an all-new cinematic adventure, pitting the almighty Kong and the fearsome Godzilla against a colossal undiscovered threat hidden within our world, challenging their very existence – and our own. The epic new film will delve further into the histories of these Titans, their origins and the mysteries of Skull Island and beyond, while uncovering the mythic battle that helped forge these extraordinary beings and tied them to humankind forever.”

Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire is now the fifth feature entry in the Monsterverse franchise and follows Godzilla (2014), Kong: Skull Island (2017), Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019) and Godzilla vs. Kong (2021). There have also been two television series: the anime series Skull Island and the live-action series Monarch: Legacy of Monsters.

The New Empire will release to cinemas from April 12th, 2024. Watch the trailer below:
