Wizards Reveal New Dungeons And Dragons Releases

Wizards of the Coast, those stylish sorcerers responsible for the game Dungeons and Dragons, have announced a ‘roadmap’ of new D&D releases.

2025 saw the game complete its rules refresh as a new edition of the rules and related support products arrived. 2026 will see three ‘seasons’ of releases. This isn’t original or unusual, but it does imply that going forward, new book dates will be less chaotic.

The themes are: Horror for the Spring, Magic for the Summer and Champions for Autumn.

Horror will bring a new Ravenloft sourcebook called Ravenloft: The Horrors Within. A new 54-card Tarokka Deck will also be available. (Basically a spooky deck of cards themed to tell horror stories rather than divine the future.) Rounding off the releases will be a Ravenloft map back and a Dungeon Master’s screen.

The magic season will bring Arcana Unleased, a sourcebook for magic. Presumably, this will round out the additional schools of magic that weren’t in the recent edition of the rules (and most DMs have just been using the old rules for them).) Plus new spells and a new magic item creation system. Also expect to see Arcana Unleashed: Deadfall, an adventure book featuring the Red Wizards of Thay. (Who were also the baddies in the recent D&D movie, so they’re super cool right now.)

Nothing else has been released about the Champions season except its name. It would be reasonable to assume it’s themed along levelling up characters to higher levels, but who can say? We’ll let you know when we do.

Horrorstör book cover by grady hendrix

Searchlight Pictures has picked up the rights to the comedy-horror novel Horrorstör by Grady Hendrix, which has been in development as both a film and a series since it was published in 2014. Jonathan Levine (the director and executive producer behind shows like Tell Me Lies and Nine Perfect Strangers) is writing and helming the adaptation. has a new lease on Hollywood.

Producing will be Brian Oliver of New Republic, Gillian Bohrer of Megamix, Adam Goldworm of Aperture Entertainment and Brad Fischer.

Horrorstör centres on an Ikea-like furniture superstore named ORSK in Cleveland that becomes the site of supernatural occurrences. To uncover the mystery behind these strange events, a group of employees signs up for a night shift, only to get way more than they bargained for.

Hendrix is also the author of My Best Friend’s Exorcism, which was adapted as a feature by Amazon MGM. He will executive produce along with Quirk Books.

Beyond his series projects, Levine is known for helming comedy films like Long Shot, Snatched, and 50/50. His next project is directing an upcoming American biographical sports drama film about New York Giants player John Tuggle, which remains untitled.

A VENOM Animated Film Is Being Developed

venom in marvel comic book. venom to get animated film

Venom is getting an animated film! Sony’s Venom franchise is headed in a new direction, with the studio tapping Zach Lipovsky and Adam B. Stein, the duo behind last year’s Final Destination: Bloodlines, to direct the project.

Amy Pascal, Avi Arad, and Matt Tolmach, who worked on the previous Venom films, will produce. Tom Hardy, who starred in the trio of live-action movies as Eddie Brock and voiced the alien symbiote, is also involved in the animated project as a producer alongside Kelly Marcel.

No writer is yet attached to the film, though The Hollywood Reporter states that Sony Pictures Animation is opening a writers’ room to develop a script. Though there’s no release window yet, with no script and a slow animation process ahead (just look at the endless delays to Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, now scheduled for 2027), a Venom animated film is still years away.

Since Bloodlines became the highest-grossing and best-reviewed entry in the longstanding horror franchise, Lipovsky and Stein have been in high demand. Their next project will be working with Chris Columbus on Gremlins, and they are also developing an original thriller Long Lost (described as What Lies Beneath meets Rosemary’s Baby), which they intend to direct.

BACKROOMS Reveals Eerie Teaser Trailer

yellow room with sunken chair from teaser trailer for a24 horror backrooms directed by kane parsons

A24 has revealed the eerie first footage for the horror feature Backrooms, which adapts Kane Parsons’ YouTube series of the same name. The film centres on two people who find a mysterious door in the basement of a furniture showroom, and stars Chiwetel Ejiofor, Renate Reinsfve, Mark Duplass, Finn Bennet, Lukita Maxwell, and Avan Jogia.

“I found something,” Ejiofor is heard saying in the teaser trailer’s voiceover. “I found a place. It’s massive in there and just goes on and on and on. All these rooms, this place builds them. Actually, more like it remembers them, and the more times it remembers something, the less it does.”

A24 and The North Road Company’s Chernin Entertainment are co-financing the film, which also counts 21 Laps Entertainment and Atomic Monster as producers.

Parsons is making his feature directorial debut from a script by Will Soodik. The story, as previously stated, is inspired by Parsons’ viral horror series, itself based on the Backrooms urban legend and creepypasta.

Simply explained, The Backrooms are an endless, liminal space accessed by “no-clipping” out of reality. It is characterised by unsettling, empty office-like environments with damp carpets, yellow walls, and buzzing fluorescent lights. They are viewed as as a dimension separate from our own, filled with both mundane and terrifying elements, and potentially inhabited by entities.

Backrooms releases in cinemas from May 29th. Watch the teaser trailer below:

DEAD BY DAYLIGHT Feature Adaptation Taps Writing Duo

Blumhouse and Atomic Monster, along with Canadian gaming studio Behaviour Interactive, have tapped David Leslie Johnston-McGoldrick and Alexandre Aja to pen the feature adaptation of Dead by Daylight, Behaviour’s hit horror game.

Johnston-McGoldrick has worked with James Wan on several franchises, including working on three of the Conjuring Universe movies. Meanwhile, Aja is a French director and screenwriter known for The Hills Have Eyes, Crawl, and Never Let Go. However, Aja won’t be directing the adaptation due to scheduling conflicts, so the hunt for a director is still ongoing.

Dead by Daylight centres on a group of four survivors who must find a set of generators in order to escape a killer trying to sacrifice them to appease a being known as The Entity.

“What David and Alexandre bring to Dead by Daylight is a rare balance of character-driven storytelling and relentless genre intensity,” said Jason Blum. “Drawing from survival horror and psychological terror, their work establishes a world where fear is not just experienced, but earned. It is a cinematic blueprint designed to attract a director who can elevate that vision through performance and scale.”

“Alexandre and David are two modern masters of horror, and their script celebrates a dark distinction, Dead by Daylight is a game, its world is a nightmare,” stated Stephen Mulrooney, producer and Behaviour’s chief product officer. “We look forward to working with a director who appreciates the depth of their story, and cannot wait to see their visceral vision brought to life.”

Wan, Blum and Mulrooney are producers on the adaptation. Executive producers include Behaviour’s Remi Racine, Atomic Monster’s Michael Clear and Judson Scott, Blumhouse’s Ryan Turek, and Striker Entertainment’s Russell Binder.

Lee Cronin’s The Mummy has a new trailer, revealing that the film centres on a family who has been grieving their daughter’s disappearance eight years prior, in Cairo. That is, until they get a call from officials revealing she’s been found… only, she’s not the same.

“It’s very important you fully prepare yourself for what you are about to see,” a doctor tells the parents before reuniting them with their child. “No sudden moves. No loud noises.”

It turns out, Katie has spent the past eight years in a 3,000-year-old sarcophagus and has been transformed into a living mummy-like creature. Not the most fun family holiday.

Jack Reynor, Laia Costa, May Calamawy, Natalie Grace and Veronica Falcón star in the New Line feature, which Cronin both wrote and directed.

James Wan, Jason Blum and John Keville produced The Mummy along with Cronin. The executive producers are Michael Clear, Judson Scott, Macdara Kelleher and Lee Cronin. Cronin is supported behind the camera by a great team of film artisans, including director of photography Dave Garbett, production designer Nick Bassett, editor Bryan Shaw, costume designer Joanna Eatwell, music by Stephen McKeon and casting by Terri Taylor and Sarah Domeier Lindo.

Lee Cronin’s The Mummy will be released April 17th. Check out the trailer below:

A JOHN WICK Video Game Is In The Works

untitled john wick video game in development

Have you ever wanted to be in John Wick’s shoes? (Bar the murdered dog and dead wife, of course.) Well, Saber Interactive has announced a new, big-budget video game set in the John Wick universe!

The project is described as a mature audience, third-person action game that will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.

Per the press release, “Created in collaboration between Saber, Lionsgate, and Chad Stahelski, the new “Untitled John Wick Game” video game will feature an original gameplay narrative set in the John Wick timeline years before the Impossible Task. It will expand on the franchise’s lore during that time with familiar characters fans already know and love, as well as compelling new ones created specifically for this production. Saber’s authentic design will deliver on the signature style and unique elements fans expect from a John Wick mission, including a hard-hitting gun-fu combat system, jaw-dropping camerawork, intense driving experiences, cinematic storytelling, and a bold range of atmospherically immersive environments, all crafted to make players feel like they are in a John Wick movie, playing the role of the Baba Yaga himself.”

“We are collaborating closely with Saber’s dedicated team to develop a game that captures the unparalleled action, brand-defining fight choreography, immersive world-building, and authenticity of the films,” said Jenefer Brown, president of Global Products & Experiences at Lionsgate.

Added Saber CEO, Matthew Karch: “John Wick is one of the most iconic characters in action film history. Saber is honored to be working alongside Chad, Keanu and the Lionsgate team in a true collaboration to bring the world of Wick to life in a AAA game.”

Since 2014’s John Wick became a surprise hit, Lionsgate has released four mainline films starring Keanu Reeves, a TV spinoff of The Continental, and the spinoff movie Ballerina, starring Ana de Armas. A fifth John Wick film is in the works from director Chad Stahelski.

There’s no set date for when this John Wick video game might be released, but you can check out the trailer below:

CHARLIE’S ANGELS Is Being Revived (Again)

charlie's angels 1876 tv series title card

Sony is reviving Charlie’s Angels (again) and has hired The Proposal and Crazy Rich Asians scribe Pete Chiarelli to pen the script.

Charlie’s Angels has had its fair share of adaptations, first appearing on TV screens from 1976 to 1981. A sensation at the time, the crime drama’s first season made stars out of Farrah Fawcett, Kate Jackson, and Jaclyn Smith, who portrayed three extremely competent private detectives working for the Townsend Agency, run by an enigmatic and never-seen owner, Charlie Townsend.

It was then adapted for the big screen in 2000, in a version that starred Drew Barrymore, Cameron Diaz, and Lucy Liu. The trio returned for a sequel in 2003, Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle.

A new television series was attempted in 2011, though it was cancelled after just seven episodes (the eighth episode was left unaired in the United States). In 2019, Sony tried again to relaunch the franchise with Elizabeth Banks’ feature film starring Kristen Stewart, Naomi Scott, and Ella Balinska. The project bombed at the box office.

This new project is in early development, so other than Chiarelli’s involvement, everything surrounding the film remains unknown. Chiarelli is also known for Now You See Me 2 and GOAT, the animated feature currently in cinemas.

THE MANDALORIAN & GROGU Trailer Has Landed!

the mandalorian & grogu star wars trailer still

The Mandalorian is making his big-screen debut in the new trailer for Star Wars: The Mandalorian & Grogu. Pedro Pascal is reprising his tutular role as Din Djarin from the Disney+ series The Mandalorian. Sigourney Weaver is also starring as Colonel Ward, one of the Rebel Alliance leader.

“This isn’t about revenge. It’s about preventing another war,” Weaver’s character tells Mando and Grogu (aka Baby Yoda) as they’re enlisted to help defend the fledgling New Republic after the evil Empire has collapsed and imperial warlords are scattered around the galaxy.

“We’ll take out every bad guy in your deck of cards,” Mandalorian promises.

Important sightings in this trailer include Rotta the Hutt (voiced by Jeremy Allen White) in some sort of gladiator tournament, and the return of The Book of Boba Fett’s Hutt twins. Also appearing are Zen Orrelios from Rebels, an infant Rodian we can now dub Baby Greedo, and Clone Wars’ bounty hunter Embo, among others.

The project marks the first Star Wars movie since 2019’s The Rise of Skywalker and is directed by The Mandalorian creator Jon Favreau, from a script he co-wrote with Dave Filoni.
