The Thick of It and Veep creator Armando Iannucci is taking on Britain’s favourite marmalade-eating bear, with news that the Scottish comedian will be penning the script for Paddington 4.
The latest chapter in the bear’s adventure saga will be written by both Iannucci and his longtime collaborator Simon Blackwell. The pair have worked together on political satire series The Thick of It, Veep, and its spinoff, In The Loop, as well as on the 2017 black comedy The Death of Stalin and 2019’s The Personal History of David Copperfield. Iannucci also directed the latter two. Based on those projects alone, it does appear that Paddington will be a rather dramatic change of space for the duo.
When the fourth Paddington movie was announced earlier this year, the Studiocanal chief executive, Anna Marsh, said that “world-renowned comedy writers” had been hired to write it, but had let slip nothing else.
Variety also reported that Dougal Wilson, who made his feature directorial debut with Paddington in Peru, is in talks to return for the next instalment. The first two films were directed by Paul King.
Other than that, information on Paddington 4 remains scarce, but stay tuned for any information about potential plot points or a release date as we hear.
