Matlock star Jason Ritter has been added to the cast of HBO’s Lanterns, for a recurring role as Billy Macon.
Billy is described as “a good-looking charmer who does his father’s bidding. Capitalising on his family’s reputation, he clings to his small-town ego and has everything to lose.” His aforementioned father is William Macon, and is being played by Garret Dillahunt. Macon Sr. is a self-righteous, conspiracy-minded and ruthlessly ambitious man who hides his darker side behind a charming façade.
The synopsis states the series follows “Hal Jordan, a legend amongst the space police force known as the Green Lanterns, as he reluctantly mentors Stewart, a younger Green Lantern. The two intergalactic cops get drawn into a dark, Earth-based mystery as they investigate a murder in the American heartland.” The series hails from Chris Mundy, Damon Lindelof, and comic book writer Tom King. The show is being executive produced and written by the trio, with Mundy showrunning the eight-episode season.
Jason Ritter also joins Kyle Chandler and Aaron Pierre as the stars of DC’s Lanterns, who play Hal Jordan and John Stewart. The cast also includes Kelly Macdonald, Poorna Jagannathan and Ulrich Thomsen.
As well as presently starring opposite Kathy Bates in Matlock, Ritter is known for his roles in Raising Dion and A Million Little Things.
