Peacock Cancels BRAVE NEW WORLD

Brave New World

Having largely impressed with its debut season, it maybe comes as a little bit of a surprise to hear that Peacock has pulled the plug on Brave New World.

Courtesy of Variety, Peacock has made the call not to move forward with a second season of the Alden Ehrenreich-fronted loose adaptation of Aldous Huxley’s 1932 novel.

There is still hope that Brave New World may continue on elsewhere, with Universal Content Productions said to be shipping the series around in order to find it a new home. Previously, the show began life as a SYFY production, before then moving to USA Network, and then finally finding landing on Peacock.

Fort those not familiar with Brave New World, the series centres on an idyllic society where peace, prosperity and instant gratification is available to all. Only it’s not, for all isn’t quite as perfect as it may seem. In addition to Ehrenreich, the show’s impressive ensemble also featured the likes of Jessica Brown Findlay, Hannah John-Kamen, Harry Lloyd, and Demi Moore.

As ever, expect more on any possible second season for Brave New World – but, for now at least, the future doesn’t look great for this series.

At present, UK fans can find Brave New World on Sky One.

Danielle Harris to Direct All-Female Slasher SEQUEL

Danielle Harris

In some great news for horror hounds, genre favourite Danielle Harris is stepping back behind the camera to direct an upcoming slasher titled Sequel.

As first picked up on by Bloody Disgusting, Harris will be directing Sequel for Joe Dante and Mark Alan’s Renfield Productions banner. In addition to winning plentiful plaudits for her work in the likes of the Halloween and Hatchet franchises, Harris made the move into directing with the impressive Prank and Among Friends in 2008 and 2012, respectively.

Plot details are minimal for Sequel at this early juncture, although the movie is pegged as a darkly comedic all-female slasher penned by Severance’s James Moran.

The official press release on Sequel reads:

Written by notable British scribe James Moran (Doctor Who, Torchwood, Severance), Sequel promises to be a brash, unashamed spectacle led by an all-star cast of take-no-prisoner heroines, and presented by a high-calibre line-up of filmmakers. Netflix Developing ASSASSIN’S CREED TV Series

Assassin's Creed

With Netflix having already served up The Witcher and Castlevania, and currently at work on two different Resident Evil shows, now comes word that the streaming juggernaut has another famed video game property in its sights.

To be executive produced by Mythic Quest’s Jason Altman and Ubisoft TV’s Danielle Kreinik, Netflix announced this news by dropping the following teaser clip:

At this early stage, it’s not yet known whether Netflix’s Assassin’s Creed will be an entirely original story, be based solely on the existing video games, or be a mixture of both original story and established tales.

From Ubisoft, Assassin’s Creed began life back in 2007 on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC. The overall premise of the series centres on an age-old battle between the free-thinking Assassins and the control-driven Templars, with the action taking place across a whole host of different time periods. To date, the video game franchise has amassed an impressive 12 main games and countless spin-offs in the gaming world and beyond.

An Assassin’s Creed TV show was first discussed by Netflix back in 2016, although those talks quickly went quiet. This was at the same time that Michael Fassbender headlined 20th Century Fox’s Assassin’s Creed movie – which certainly split opinion upon its release.

As ever, expect more on Netflix’s Assassin’s Creed series as we get it.

Oscar Isaac in Talks for MOON KNIGHT

Oscar Isaac Moon Knight

With a live-action Moon Knight series in development for Disney+, it looks as if the show may have found its headline act.

Via Deadline, Oscar Isaac is reportedly in serious talks about taking on the lead role of Marc Spector in Moon Knight. Isaac, of course, is a major genre favourite thanks to the likes of Ex Machina, Annihilation, X-Men: Apocalypse, and his role as Poe Dameron in the Star Wars sequel trilogy.

For those not familiar with the Moon Knight character, he is the alter-ego of the aforementioned Spector. After a near-death experience, the Egyptian god of the moon brought badass mercenary Marc Spector back to life and made him the hero Moon Knight. In addition to his merc background, Spector just so happens to be a millionaire with a slew of handy gadgets to help him fight the bad guys – which has often led to comparisons to a certain Dark Knight.

At times, Spector has had certain superhuman abilities such as increased strength and speed, and he also often takes on the identities of cab driver Jake Lockley and money-man Steven Grant as part of his plan to keep an eye on the criminal element.

Moon Knight is just one of several Marvel-based shows happening over at Disney+, with WandaVision, Captain America and the Winter Soldier, Ms. Marvel, She-Hulk, Hawkeye, and Nick Fury also on the way.

As ever, expect more on Moon Knight as we get it.
