Screenwriter Mattson Tomlin is reteaming with Matt Reeves to write The Batman 2, the planned follow-up to the fantastic Robert Pattinson-starring, gritty crime thriller take on DC’s Caped Crusader.
Tomlin did work on The Batman, even if he did not receive screenwriting credit (which Reeves shared with Peter Craig). Tomlin came in later in the development to fix some reported third-act issues.
Writing has reportedly not begun yet, so plot details are, of course, being kept in Arkham Asylum. It’s not even clear whether Barry Keoghan’s Joker, teased in the last moments of The Batman, is involved with the sequel. Don’t worry though, because R-Batz is 100% returning.
Tomlin wrote the (let’s be honest, disappointing) Jamie Foxx and Joseph Gordon-Levitt action-thriller Project Power for Netflix and wrote and directed the Chloe Grace Moretz sci-fi Mother/Android.
The fast-rising writer has a host of other projects in development: a Terminator series which Tomlin promised “breaks conventions, subverts expectations and has real guts”; a live-action Mega Man feature film, based on the best-selling video game series; and the surprisingly-pronounceable BRZRKR, based on the comic (co-written by Keanu Reeves) that follows an immortal warrior known as Berzerker as he fights his way through the ages.
Stay tuned for more news on The Batman 2 as we get it.
