WEAPONS Prequel GLADYS Taps Zach Shields As Writer

Gladys, the breakout character from Zach Cregger‘s horror hit Weapons, has her very own planned prequel feature in the works. Zach Shields, known for his screenwriting work on the Monsterverse franchise, is penning the script for the project, with Gladys the working title.

Centering on a group of children who simultaneously go missing in the middle of the night, Weapons starred Julia Garner, Josh Brolin and Amy Madigan, the latter earning the Best Supporting Actress Academy Award for her role as cooky (and dangerous) Aunt Gladys. The prequel movie would focus on the woman’s origin story and her arrival to town.

“Zach has a map of what he would like to do,” Madigan told The Hollywood Reporter last year about a possible prequel. “It would be such a blast, and it would be really great if we could revisit her in some way. I’m excited about that possibility.”

Cregger, who is currently working on a Resident Evil instalment for Sony, will return to the Weapons prequel as producer alongside Roy Lee and Miri Yoon of Vertigo Entertainment.

Shields recently worked on Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire for Warner Bros. and Legendary. His previous works also include Godzilla vs. Kong, Godzilla: King of the Monsters, and Universal’s Krampus.

Just A Girl Trying To Save Her Dog In SUPERGIRL Trailer

Milly Alcock‘s Kara Zor-El is ready to tear through worlds to save her superpup, Krypto. DC Studios has released a new trailer for Supergirl, ahead of the film’s summer release.

“I was just touching base to see when you think you might be coming back. You know, I’m just worried that you’re not gonna find your stride here if you keep going off-world all the time, Kara. I’m worried you’re not gonna find your people,” David Corenswet’s Clark Kent, aka Superman, says to Kara in the trailer. She tells him, “Yeah, well, that’s the thing, Clark. I have no people.” No people but her dog, to whom she says: “Home is wherever you are, buddy.”

However, Krypto is then poisoned by villain Krem of the Yellow Hills (Matthias Schoenaerts), and Kara is told her best friend has only three days to live. Kara must hunt down Krem for the antidote, leading her on a space-jetting mission against time.

Also seen in the trailer is another look at Jason Momoa‘s Lobo. He and Kara seem to team up in some action-packed sequences.

“This is really an anti-hero story. She’s got a lot of demons, a lot of baggage coming into this, which is very different from where Superman is in his life,” director Craig Gillespie stated at a previous trailer launch event. DC Studios co-head James Gunn added: “So many times female superheroes are so perfect. She’s not that at all … Like male superheroes have been allowed to be for a while.” The script has been penned by Ana Nogueira.

Supergirl is one of two movies on DC Studios’ release slate this year. There’s also Clayface, a horror-tinged film that arrives on October 23rd. The studio will also unveil Lanterns, its HBO Max series, in summer.

Hudson Williams And Dylan O’Brien To Co-Star In APPARATUS

Internet boyfriends Dylan O’Brien and Hudson Williams have signed on to star in the dark comedy thriller Apparatus. Canadian actress Sofia Banzhaf, known for starring in Dream Scenario, makes her feature directorial debut from a script she co-wrote with Grayson Moore.

The film follows a struggling rideshare driver, Tyler (Williams), as he falls under the influence of a self-styled entrepreneur, JP (O’Brien), who offers him a future in his handheld-massager business. What first appears to be a dream opportunity unravels as JP pulls Tyler into a violent, downward spiral.

Banzhaf will produce the feature alongside Moore, Daniel Bekerman (The Witch, Ready or Not) for Scythia Films, Julie Baldassi for Younger Daughter Films, and Brian Robertson. Neil Mathieson (Clown in a Cornfield) executive produces.

Production dates on Apparatus are being finalised, so a release date is not yet confirmed.

O’Brien was recently seen in Sam Raimi’s horror-comedy two-hander Send Help, as well as in the award-winning dark comedy Twinless. He received a Sundance Jury Award win and a Spirit Award nomination for his dual roles in the latter. Hudson Williams, meanwhile, has been in the public eye for his breakout role in the cultural phenomenon Heated Rivalry, in which he stars opposite Connor Storrie.

Banzhaf previously directed the short film I Am in the World as Free and Slender as a Deer on a Plain, which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival.

Ryan Gosling To Star In The Daniels’ Next Sci-Fi Comedy

The Daniels, the Oscar-winning filmmaking duo behind Everything Everywhere All at Once, have cast Ryan Gosling to lead their next sci-fi action comedy.

The Universal Pictures project, which is still untitled, has a release date of November 19th, 2027, and is reportedly looking to begin filming this summer. The film marks Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert’s first follow-up to Everything Everywhere All at Once, which swept the Academy Awards and brought home Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Original Screenplay.

Per Universal, plot details remain under wraps for the Daniels’ new film, though in an interview at SXSW, Kwan called it a “fun sci-fi, action comedy with a big heart. Very existential. All those things that you would hope that one of our movies would be.” He added the film will meet the moment of a “complex” world. “One of the reasons why it’s taking so long is because what we’re feeling and what we’re hearing from the world is very complex and really nuanced, and there’s so much paradox. To kind of reconcile all those things and put them into one movie, it takes time,” he said.

Kwan, Scheinert and Jonathan Wang are producing through their Playgrounds banner. Universal’s Executive VP of Production Development, Sara Scott, and Director of Production Development, Jacqueline Garell, are overseeing the project.

The news also comes as Universal’s Focus Features is nearing the release of The AI Doc: Or How I Became an Apocaloptimist, which Kwan and Wang produced.

MAKE TIME FOR TIMESLIP

Running for one 26-episode series between 1970/1971, Timeslip remains one of the most fondly-remembered and influential British TV children’s serials of all time. The series starred Spencer Banks as Simon Randall and Cheryl Burfield as Liz Skinner, two youngsters who find themselves able to access ‘time bubbles’ that allow them to pass through a ‘time barrier’ located in the grounds of a long-abandoned wartime military installation. They find themselves back in the second World War as the station is infiltrated by a shock troop of Nazis and, as the series became increasingly popular and its run extended, subsequent adventures saw them slip forward to two alternative versions of 1990 – firstly to a research facility deep in the Antarctic and later to an England turned into a tropical rainforest. The final episodes tie up the themes of the series as Liz and Simon travel back to 1965 to try to prevent the grim futures they have experienced earlier in the series.

Timeslip famously presented to its young audiences ideas and concepts that are now almost everyday currency – global warming, cloning, and the dangers of unchecked scientific experimentation – in a thrilling, intelligent and thought-provoking series that remains remarkably prescient.

Dimension 20 Goes World Of Darkness

The trailer for the next season of cult favourite actual play series, Dimension20 , has just dropped, and they take full aim at beloved 90’s classic, Vampire: The Masquerade, with their new campaign, City Council of Darkness.

The core Dimension20  cast, known as the Intrepid Heroes, will take on the roles of ‘ flamboyant goth vampires exiled from their ancient castle and forced to assimilate into a painfully wholesome small town, where they unexpectedly find themselves running the local government. Between zoning disputes, bloodthirsty urges, and mandatory bake sales, it’s undead chaos in the quaintest hellscape imaginable.’

Vampire is part of  White Wolf’s TTRPG series, The World of Darkness, which is still popular to this day, but wears its late 20th-century vibes on its heart. It’s a game of loud emotions, quiet despair and looking cool in leather. Think Underworld, but somehow nerdier.

This will also be the first time we will see the Storyteller System used in the Dimension20 dome. (They tend to favour either Dungeons & Dragons 5e or Kids on Bikes).

Dimension 20: City Council of Darkness’s cast is led by Game Master Brennan Lee Mulligan, and stars Emily Axford, Ally Beardsley, Brian Murphy, Zac Oyama, Siobhan Thompson and Lou Wilson.

Stephen Colbert To Pen Next LORD OF THE RINGS Film

Unexpectedly, Stephen Colbert has found his post-Late Show job within the Lord of the Rings universe. The comedian has been tapped to pen a new Tolkien movie, alongside Philippa Boyens and Peter McGee, which will be the second of two upcoming films in the longstanding fantasy franchise.

Colbert joined filmmaker Peter Jackson to announce the news, stating: “The thing I found myself reading over and over again were the six chapters early on in The Fellowship [of the Ring] that y’all never developed into the first movie back in the day,” Colbert said in the video posted to social media. “It’s basically chapters ‘Three Is Company’ through ‘Fog on the Barrow-downs,’ and I thought, Oh wait, maybe that could be its own story that could fit into the larger story. Could we make something that was completely faithful to the books while also being completely faithful to the movies that you guys had already made?

“And I started talking it over with my son Peter, who’s also a screenwriter, and we worked out what we thought would work, especially as a framing device for that story,” Stephen Colbert continued. “It took me a few years to scrape my courage into a pile to give you a call, but about two years ago I did. You liked it enough to talk to me about it, and ever since then, the two of us have been working with the brilliant Philippa Boyens on how to develop this story.”

The film, with the working title The Lord of the Rings: Shadow of the Past, will come after Lord of the Rings: Hunt for Gollum, which is in development from director Andy Serkis.

Shadow of the Past‘s synopsis reads: “Fourteen years after the passing of Frodo, Sam, Merry, and Pippin set out to retrace the first steps of their adventure. Meanwhile, Sam’s daughter, Elanor, has discovered a long-buried secret and is determined to uncover why the War of the Ring was very nearly lost before it even began.”

Before then, The Hunt for Gollum from Warner Bros.’ New Line will be released in cinemas on December 17th, 2027.

WONDER MAN Gets A Second Season

One of Marvel’s best projects in years, Wonder Man, has been renewed for a second season. Yahya Abdul-Mateen II and Ben Kingsley will return as Simon Williams and Trevor Slattery, the secretly super-powered actor and ex-terrorist-thespian, respectively.

Also returning are co-creators Destin Daniel Cretton (the director of Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, as well as the upcoming Spider-Man: Brand New Day), and Andrew Guest. Cretton is back as director and executive producer, with Guest as showrunner and exec producer.

Wonder Man centres on Simon Williams, a struggling actor attempting to find work in Hollywood while hiding his powers, given that superpowered individuals are banned from working on sets by the Doorman Clause. He forms an unlikely friendship with Trevor Slattery (who first appeared in the MCU as the Mandalorian in Iron Man 3) as the pair attempt to land the lead roles in a remake of the in-universe superhero film Wonder Man.

Given the narratively satisfying, albeit open-ended finale of season 1, it’s unclear what direction a second season might take, but the whole team returning seems promising. Wonder Man is only the third live-action Marvel series to snag a renewal, the only two others being Loki and Daredevil: Born Again.

Stranger Things comes to Arrow Video

Iconic Netflix show Stranger Things is coming to Blu-Ray and 4K UHD this July. The show, which is best known for it’s association with streaming platform Netflix, will be available as physical media.

Arrow Films, in collaboration with Netflix,  have made Stranger Things: The Complete Series available to pre-order now in both Special and Deluxe editions, for both Blu-Ray™ and stunning 4K UHD, with the full box set releasing on 27 July in the UK and 28 July in the US and Canada.


Special and Deluxe editions of Stranger Things: The Complete Series will be available for purchase, featuring an array of exclusive bonus content, including bloopers, interviews with the cast and crew, and behind-the-scenes featurettes, designed for the ultimate Stranger Things experience. BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER Reboot Gets The Axe

The Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot has got the stake-axe. Series star Sarah Michelle Gellar took to Instagram to share that Hulu is no longer moving forward with the project, which came from 20th Century Television and Searchlight TV, and had been in the works since February 2025.

Oscar winner Chloé Zhao (Nomadland, Hamnet) was set to direct with a script penned by Nora and Lilla Zuckerman (Poker Face). The reboot was to follow a younger Slayer, played by Ryan Kiera Armstrong, with Gellar’s Buffy Summers returning to star. Series regulars would have included Faly Rakotohavana as Hugo, Ava Jean as Larkin, Sarah Bock as Gracie, Daniel Di Tomasso as Abe and Jack Cutmore-Scott as Mr. Burke.

“I am really sad to have to share this, but I wanted you all to hear it from me. Unfortunately, Hulu has decided not to move forward with Buffy: New Sunnydale,” the actress said in a video. “I want to thank Chloé Zhao, because I never thought I would find myself back in Buffy’s stylish yet affordable boots. And thanks to Chloé, I was reminded how much I love her and how much she means not only to me but to all of you. This doesn’t change any of that, and I promise if the apocalypse actually comes, you can still beep me.”

A few days after announcing the cancellation, Gellar gave an interview in which she criticised the studios’ decision, and said that one executive (who remains unnamed) made a point of saying he never liked Buffy.

“We had an executive on our show who was not only not a fan of the original, but was proud to constantly remind us that he had never seen the entirety of the series and how it wasn’t for him,” she said. “That’s very hard when you’re taking a property that is as beloved as Buffy, not just to the world, but to me and Chloé. So that tells you the uphill battle that we had been fighting since day one, when your executive is literally proud to tell you that he didn’t watch it.”

Currently, it’s not thought that the project can be shopped elsewhere, since Disney owns the Buffy IP.
