David Tennant wowed crowds at this weekend’s MCM Comic Con. At a special panel to honour the guest, the star of Marvel’s Jessica Joneswas asked about future roles in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He said, “I think in terms of supervillains, I got the best one with Kilgrave.” He went on to say, “I did slightly have my eye on Reed Richards, and unfortunately, it looks like they’ve gone in a different direction, although if it has to be someone, I’m very happy for it to be Pedro Pascal.”
The Doctor Who star was also asked about his past work as a Time Lord. He told the crowds, “Doctor Who is the kind of show that imprints on you as a child, and if it gets its hooks into you like it did to me, it doesn’t really let go.”
“There’s something about being caught up in the magic of those stories when it first grabs you, and when it takes you on that journey through time and space, it does live with you forever.”
In response to questions about where he’d visit using the TARDIS, he said, “Well, we got to go to Shakespeare’s Globe, which was very exciting; I always wanted to do that. The only one I wanted to go back to was the Cavern and see The Beatles when they were brand new, but they’ve sort of done that; that was the box that got ticked after I’d left. Listen, there’s loads of opportunities, aren’t there, and that’s one of the joys of this show is that it’s got of stories left to tell.”
Tennant left the crowd hanging with cryptic statements about future roles that would delight attendees of MCM Comic Con London.
Cult actual-play D&D show Legends of Avantaris have created The Crooked Moon, a 600+ page folk-horror setting for 5e Dungeons & Dragons 2024 (and 2014).
The game swaps out the usual setting for something more Summerisle-inspired, with 15 new subclasses, 13 lineages, and new spells, rituals, and items. There are also folklore-inspired story hooks to get your adventuring party together. They’ve crammed a load of monsters and the full Wickermoor Hollow campaign in as well.
Daggerheart, the new TTRPG produced by Critical Role’s publishing company Darrington Press, has gone on sale to the general public.
Built around Critical Role’s renowned creative storytelling style, the game has been play-tested by over 150,000 fans. Daggerheart invites players into heroic, emotionally charged adventures. Its key mechanic is the dual-d12 “Duality Dice”, which balances the potential for incredible success with dramatic tragedy. It’s also nice to see the humbler twelve-sided die get some use.
The 336-page lavishly illustrated hardcover book is crammed with everything you need to run the game, from character creation to worldbuilding. The game also comes with 279 cards, each illustrated and containing useful game information.
A playthrough of the game will be available online via Critical Role’s Age of Umbra mini-series, premiering May 22 with a Session Zero character and worldbuilding arranged by the legendary Matthew Mercer.
It can be ordered directly from Darrington Press Guild stores or digitally via DriveThruRPG and Demiplane. Fans looking for physical copies should expect some delay; initial stock sold almost instantly, so it may be June before you can get your hands on a copy.
Warhammer’s annual video game announcement event, Skulls, has just finished, and it looks like 2025 is a bumper year for fans of video game RPGs, sequels and remasters. The show also brought new free games and discount offers on existing games.
The big news is that Owlcat games have announced a new roleplaying computer game, Dark Heresy, inspired by the TTRPG of the same name. This will see gamers take on the role of Inquisitorial agents to root out mutants and heretics across the Imperium.
Skulls also announced the sequel to beloved Boomer shooter Boltgun, imaginatively entitled Boltgun Two, which can be wishlisted now. The game features a lone Sternguard Ultramarine take on the hordes of the warp in a manner that fans of classic games like Doom will love. Keeping with the nostalgia vibe, Boltgun publisher Auroch Digital has released Words of Vengeance, a typing shooter reminiscent of ’90s classic Typing of the Dead. Though the words are very Warhammer, so get used to typing out Nurgle. It’s completely free to download and play.
A remastered version of strategy classic Dawn of War called the Definitive Edition is now available to be wishlisted and will come out properly later this year. The highly regarded game is also getting its own miniatures wargame, similar to the one they did for the Space Marine video game.
Speaking of Space Marine, it’s getting its own digital remaster called the Master Craft edition. This is in-line with Games Workshop’s commitment to keeping old games available and usable – many classic old PC Warhammer games are available via GOG.
Darktide will be getting a new class (Arbites, basically Judge Dredd), and Space Marine Two will be getting a siege mode. A new skin, exclusive to the Skulls promotion, is available for Space Marine Two.
Eight Warhammer video games will be part of the Free Play Days over on Xbox from May 22nd to May 26th, including previous Warhammer Skulls world premiere Rogue Trader, as well as Darktide, Mechanicus, Chaos Gate: Daemon Hunters and Shootas, Blood & Teef!

Talisman Digital 5th Edition – Talisman Alliances: Fate Beckons will be released. This will be similar to the expansion of the board game. (This also implies we should expect Talisman: Nemesis at some point in the distant future.)
Warhammer 40,000: Battlesector – A new major free update was revealed, which will include a Crusade game mode, Dominions and Orks Boyz with Choppa, alongside a new paid Deeds of the Fallen DLC.
Warhammer: Vermintide 2 – The game will be available on Game Pass as part of Skulls, whilst the third Level of the Verminous Dreams campaign has been released as a free update.
Blood Bowl 3 – A new season with a new faction will be launching June 10th. The Khorne Team, has been announced as part of the event, alongside a sale and a free item for players: the coach for the Khorne Team.
Warhammer 40,000: Tacticus – A new faction, the Adeptus Custodes, is released for the popular game.
Warhammer 40,000: Warpforge – The Emperor’s Children will be available as a new faction from Skulls.
Warhammer 40,000: Gladius – A new units DLC is released, Onslaught pack is available now – as well as the base game being available Free 2 Keep on Steam during the week of Skulls.
Supremacy: Warhammer 40,000 – Pre-registration opens for this brand-new grand strategy mobile game, launching in late 2025.
Warhammer Combat Cards – Daemon Primarch Angron is released as the next Supreme Commander card in the game.
Counter-Strike 2 – New Warhammer 40,000 inigame stickers based on tabletop decals will be available on Steam.
Jason Momoa, Andrew Koji, Noah Centineo, and WWE star Roman Reigns are in early talks to star in Street Fighter for Legendary Entertainment, per Deadline. Though the cast hasn’t been announced yet, it is understood that the stars are circling the adaptation in early negotiations.
Kitao Sakurai, who directed Bad Trip, is set to direct the video game adaptation. Directors Danny and Michael Philippou, best known for Talk to Me, had been attached to a previous version of the project.
The Street Fighter franchise began as an arcade fighting game in 1987, followed by the very popular Street Fighter II in 1991. A feature adaptation was released in 1994 and starred Jean-Claude Van Damme, Raúl Juliá, and Ming-Na Wen. In that adaptation, Colonel William Guile and his mixed-bag army fight the tyrannical General Bison, whose vicious plans include turning a captive into a hideous mutant in order to aid his mega plan of ruling the world. In 2009, 20th Century Fox released Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li.
It’s the latest in a long line of video game adaptations to emerge from Hollywood recently, with the recent successes of The Super Mario Bros. Movie and the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise, as well as A Minecraft Movie.
Things are heating up for Austin Butler and Zoë Kravitz in the trailer for Darren Aronofsky’s crime thriller, Caught Stealing.
Sony Pictures is set to release the feature in cinemas on August 29th. Also starring are Matt Smith, Liev Schreiber, Bad Bunny, D’Pharaoh Woon-A-Tai, Griffin Dunne, Carol Kane, Regina King, and Vincent D’Onofrio.
In Caught Stealing, burned-out ex-baseball player Hank Thompson (Butler) unexpectedly finds himself embroiled in a dangerous struggle for survival amidst the criminal underbelly of 1990s New York City, forced to navigate a treacherous underworld he never imagined.
Aronofsky helms the film from a script by Charlie Huston, who wrote the books on which the movie is based. During the studio’s presentation at CinemaCon earlier this year, Aronofsky debuted Caught Stealing’s first footage and teased the film as “something different.” He added, “I wanted to do something that was a lot of fun.” The filmmaker also noted that the film serves as “a true love letter to the greatest city in the world.”
Aronofsky most recently directed the 2022 drama The Whale, which won two Academy Awards, including Best Actor for Brendan Fraser.

Hide the mahogany, Elle Fanning is joining the cast of The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping as Effie Trinket. THR broke the news.
In the story, Effie serves as the stylist for Haymitch Abernathy (played here by Joseph Zada, and by Woody Harrelson in the first four Hunger Games films) in his preparations for the games. Elizabeth Banks previously portrayed an older version of Effie.
She joins Ralph Fiennes, Zada, Whitney Peak, Mckenna Grace, Jesse Plemons, Kelvin Harrison Jr., Maya Hawke, Molly McCann, Iona Bell, Lili Taylor and Ben Wang.
The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping lands in cinemas on November 20th, 2026, with Francis Lawrence directing from a script by Billy Ray that adapts Suzanne Collins’ book. The novel returns readers to Panem on the morning of the reaping for the 50th Hunger Games.

Elle Fanning was recently in the Oscar-nominated biopic A Complete Unknown, and in Joachim Trier’s Sentimental Value, which is premiering at Cannes. Most excitingly for STARBURST readers, she stars in the upcoming Predator: Badlands.
Carey Mulligan is in negotiations for a key role in Narnia, Greta Gerwig’s adaptation of C.S. Lewis’ The Chronicles of Narnia fantasy novels, THR breaks.
Casting is still underway, but Mulligan will be joining Emma Mackey, Meryl Streep, and Daniel Craig. The film is getting a two-week theatrical release in late 2026, so further casting announcements are expected soon.
Gerwig’s take on Narnia, which is being backed by Netflix, will reportedly tackle the sixth novel of the series, The Magician’s Nephew. Gerwig directs from a script she wrote. Nephew, which was published after the most famous book in the series, The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, serves as the latter’s prequel. It follows two youngsters who, thanks to an uncle’s magic dabbling, unleash the evil White Witch (played by Mackey) into a turn of the 20th century London.
Craig is reportedly playing the uncle, and Streep is voicing Aslan, the anthropomorphic lion and the King of Kings. Mulligan reportedly plays the very sick mother of Digory, one of the two kids in the adventure. The young characters have not yet been cast.
Carey Mulligan is a three-time Oscar nominee for her performances in Maestro, Promising Young Woman and An Education, and recently appeared in Saltburn.
The very worst, most dangerous dinosaurs are those doing the attacking in Jurassic World Rebirth. The second trailer for this seventh instalment in the Jurassic franchise releases on July 2nd, courtesy of Universal.

Mahershala Ali co-stars as Duncan Kincaid, Zora’s most trusted team leader. Jonathan Bailey plays palaeontologist Dr. Henry Loomis. Rupert Friend appears as Big Pharma representative Martin Krebs. Manuel Garcia-Rulfo plays Reuben Delgado, the father of the shipwrecked civilian family.
The cast also includes Luna Blaise, David Iacono, and Audrina Miranda as Reuben’s family and Philippine Velge, Bechir Sylvain, and Ed Skrein as members of Zora and Krebs’ crews.

The director of iconic comedy-romance films including Legally Blonde and Monster-in-Law is headed into horror territory with his next movie, Resurface.
Variety broke the news that Robert Luketic will direct the upcoming survival thriller for Forte Corp Pictures, which is set in the Mariana Trench, famously the deepest part of the ocean floor.
The film “chronicles the desperate race against time after an underwater earthquake devastates a deep-sea research mission at the bottom of the Mariana Trench. Two stranded survivors must ascend 35,000 feet to the surface before their life support expires.”
Luketic directs from a screenplay by Pete Bridges, known for penning the script for Renny Harlin’s upcoming Deep Water. Craig McMahon (Better Man) will produce for Forte Corp Pictures alongside Todd Fellman. David Conley (Avatar: The Way of Water) will executive produce.
“At its core, this is a story about endurance and reconnection under pressure — a genre thriller that never loses sight of its humanity,” McMahon said. “From the beginning, we knew this project demanded a director who could balance both scale and intimacy. Robert brings a rare blend of visual precision, emotional depth and technical command, and we’re incredibly excited to have him on board.”
Principal photography on Resurface will take place in Melbourne.
