The world’s end was just the beginning in Greenland 2: Migration, a post-apocalyptic sequel to the 2020 disaster movie starring heroic everyman Gerard Butler. The trailer for the film, which hails from Lionsgate and STX Films, has just been released ahead of its January 9th, 2026, cinematic release date.
Five years after a comet strike causes an extinction-level event that decimates most of the Earth, the Garrity family are forced to leave the safety of their bunker in Greenland to traverse a shattered world in search of a new home and a possible oasis in southern France. Gerard Butler and Morena Baccarin return to star, joined this time by Roman Griffin Davis (replacing Roger Dale Floyd as the Garrity’s diabetic son), Amber Rose Revah, Sophie Thompson, Trond Fausa Aurvåg and William Abadie.
Longtime Butler collaborator, Ric Roman Waugh returns to the director’s chair, working from a script by Chris Sparling (who also wrote Greenland) and Mitchell LaFortune.
Expect encounters with angry mobs of survivors, radiation storms, more space debris, and unstable weather patterns in this long-awaited sequel film. Oh, and Gerard Butler kicking ass, as per usual.
Watch the trailer for Greenland 2: Migration below. The film releases on January 9th.
