Brendan Fraser And Rachel Weisz Return For New THE MUMMY Film

brendan fraser and rachel weisz in the mummy 1999

Universal’s beloved The Mummy franchise is shaking off its wraps and heading into a fourth chapter! Brendan Fraser, who led the trio of movies made between 1999 and 2008, and Rachel Weisz, who starred in the first two entries, are in talks to star in a new Mummy film, courtesy of Radio Silence. The filmmaking team of Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, best known for Ready or Not and the Scream franchise revival, are set to direct.

Sean Daniel, who produced the original movies with his late partner James Jacks, returns to producing duties. Joining him are William Sherak, James Vanderbilt and Paul Neinstein, who will produce via their Project X Entertainment banner. They are frequent Radio Silence collaborators, having worked together on Abigail, Scream 5 and Scream 6.

Directed and co-written by Stephen Sommers, the original Mummy applied an Indiana Jones vibe to the classic Universal Monsters, and saw Fraser as a treasure hunter who travels to Egypt in the 1920s with a librarian, played by Weisz, only to accidentally awaken a supernaturally powerful high priest.

One of THR‘s sources describes the project as not a reboot, but a sequel, and one that would disregard the events of the third film. David Coggeshall wrote the screenplay.

The Asteroid Prize, which honours the best sci-fi, horror, and fantasy film, is reserved for emerging directors with their first, second, or third film. The jury – comprised of director Gabriele Mainetti (Freaks Out), producer and Film4 co-creator Julia Wrigley, and festival programmer for Francine, the Fantastic Film Festival of Málaga, Rocio Moreno – awarded the honour to Kevin McManus and Matthew McManus’ Redux Redux. Having already won fans at 2025’s FrightFest, the movie impressed the jury with its bold fusion of science fiction and emotion. The honorary Special Mention Asteroide Award was given to the stunning animated film Arco, directed by Ugo Bienvenu.

The Méliès d’Argent Award jury was made up of British distributor Martin Myers, film critic and writer Ann Billson, and Mark Moore, musician, DJ, and frontman of the band S’Express. They awarded the Silver Méliès Award to Jan Kounen’s L’Homme qui rétrécit (The Shrinking Man), which brings Richard Matheson’s classic 1956 novel to a new generation. The fans were polled for the short film Silver Méliès, and they chose Marius Rolfsvåg’s Animalia, a Norwegian entry set in the future where the world has been reclaimed by nature, with humans having evolved into animals. The only untouched community is hidden away in an airtight city.

Redux Redux

The audience award, also voted for by those in attendance, went to Arco. There was also an award presented by the festival’s media partner Rai Cultura. The Wonderland Award is presented to the best overall movie of the event. They chose Redux Redux, making it a double celebration for the MacManus brothers’ impressive time travel thriller.  The SNCCI Critics’ Award was voted for by three members of the National Union of Italian Film Critics, Martina Barone, Andrea Chimento, and Sara D’Ascenzo. They chose the Australian animated sci-fi comedy Lesbian Space Princess. The story has a shy princess attempting to rescue her ex-girlfriend from the Straight White Maliens. The fun romp has already won over audiences worldwide, and the win will undoubtedly enhance its reputation.

The honour for best Italian short film, the Cinelab Spazio Corto Award, went to Nicolò Folin’s The Other Lives, in which the memory of dead people is able to be preserved, allowing the living the chance to interact with those who have passed.

Finally, the Event Horizon Award (National Institute for Astrophysics Award) went to author Ted Chiang, celebrating the way he captured the real way scientists think about understanding the universe. His bibliography includes work such as Exhalation, The Lifecycle of Software Objects, and Story of Your Life, which was adapted into the film Arrival. Chiang was on hand to introduce a screening of Denis Villeneuve’s classic, as well as taking part in an enlightening discussion on AI.

Cult Classic THE SHOUT Gets Soundtrack Release

The 1978 film The Shout is finally getting a release for its soundtrack. The Shout, adapted from a short story by Robert Graves and directed by Jerzy Skolimowski, is highly regarded amongst British horror and electronic music fans due to its bold, arthouse approach to psychological drama, propelled by experimental studio techniques and visceral sound design. The film’s score and audio effects were almost entirely created by the songwriter and record producer Rupert Hine (Rush, Stevie Nicks). Rupert recorded reels of ideas and experiments for the film between 1977 and 1978 using an EMS VCS3, Yamaha CS80, Eventide Harmoniser, and Roland Space Echo. He also created the terrifying shout emitted by Alan Bates’ character, Crossley, as well as other Foley effects, such as the musique concrète for John Hurt’s home studio scenes.

Suzy Mangion, audio theorist and electro-acoustic artist said this of the project: “The Shout is one of the great films about sound; utilising new Dolby technology to build wide and complex frequencies, rendering a detailed audio world punctuated with outbursts of complex noise… Rupert Hine’s inventive score combines experimental electroacoustic music with synths and organs… his use of synthesisers evokes an eeriness also found in Brian Eno’s 1970s scores for Derek Jarman and Peter Greenaway.”

While the film’s soundtrack also included involvement of Tony Banks and Mike Rutherford from the rock band Genesis, their contribution being two short, repeated themes, co-produced with Rupert. It hasn’t been possible to include those tracks due to some challenging rights negotiations but all of Rupert’s electronic effects, musical cues, demos, loops, drones, and outtakes are included.

Listen closely and you’ll hear Rupert’s sounds scattered throughout the film, discreetly mixed by award-winning sound editor Alan Bell (The Man Who Fell to Earth) and Tony Jackson who use them to establish the film’s creeping dread. At other times Rupert’s effects are used to startling effect, violently jolting viewers as the occult drama unfolds. Rupert was an early adopter of new technology and amongst the sonic experimentation there are some gorgeous synthesised pieces using the Yamaha CS80, four years before Vangelis used the same instrument to create his legendary Blade Runner score.

Rupert sadly passed away before the tape transfers were completed, but it’s clear from the wealth of material we uncovered how immersed he was during the soundtrack’s production. It’s a testament to his creativity that, with a fairly simple studio set up, Rupert was able to conjure such an inspired selection of themes and effects.

The Shout soundtrack is available on 12″ vinyl LP, CD and download from December 5th. Buried Treasure Records can be found here

The Franchise’s Iconic Final Girl Returns In SCREAM 7 Trailer

ghostface in scream 7 trailer

The Scream franchise welcomes back its iconic final girl, Neve Campbell, in the first official trailer for Scream 7.

“Hello, Sidney. Did you miss me?” Ghostface says on the phone. “Nice little town you found, you and your pretty daughter. Reminds me of where we grew up.”

While Ghostface appears to be primarily after Sidney’s daughter, Tatum (Isabel May), Campbell is front and centre, teaching her kid the rules of escaping the infamous killer.

Another franchise veteran to appear in the trailer is Courteney Cox as reporter Gale Weathers, who survived a brutal attack in Scream VI. And while not shown in the trailer, David Arquette is expected to appear in the film, despite his character, Dewey Riley, having been killed off in 2022’s Scream.

Scream 7 is directed by Kevin Williamson, who wrote the script for the original Scream as well as Scream 2 and 4. Also starring in this instalment are Matthew Lillard as Stu, the (spoiler) original co-Ghostface killer, along with Skeet Ulrich as Billy Loomis, Mason Gooding and Jasmin Savoy Brown as Chad and Mindy, and Scott Foley as (spoiler again) Scream 3‘s Ghostface, Roman Bridger. Rounding out the cast are series newcomers Michelle Randolph, Joel McHale, Anna Camp, Mckenna Grace, Ethan Embry, Mark Consuelos, Jimmy Tatro, Celeste O’Connor, Asa Germann and Sam Rechner.

This project has been fraught with controversy. Star of the revival films Melissa Barrera was fired from appearing in 7 because of her social media posts about the Israel-Hamas war. After her exit, co-star Jenna Ortega also opted to exit the project while Christopher Landon, who was supposed to direct the film, was pushed to leave amid intense fan backlash following Barrera’s firing.

The slasher will land in cinemas from February 27th, 2026. Watch the Scream 7 trailer down below:

Marvin The Paranoid Android Revealed

Images of the new Marvin The Paranoid Android for the forthcoming The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy stage show have been released.

Fans of Douglas Adam’s classic sci-fi farce tend to have very specific ideas of what this central character looks like, despite that look being different in pretty much every version of story. Marvin’s personality is wildly negative, his grumbling adding a bitter-sweet sense of humour to the well loved, world famous story.

This new puppet, designed for the stage show coming to London this November, has been designed by the reknowned Charlie Tymms. You can book tickets for the new show here.

The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy experience features a mix of pre-recorded celebrity voices and live performers including well-loved British talent including actor and comedian Sanjeev Bhaskar as the voice of Prostetnic Vogon Jeltz, the infamous alien bureaucrat with a mission to destroy he Earth. Lenora Crichlow will voice Tricia McMillian, also known as Trillian, while journalist Samira Ahmed will appear as a newsreader reporting on the planet’s impending doom. BAFTA nominee Tamsin Greig will be the voice of The Guide, the ever-present source of wisdom and guidance throughout the story.

MONSTER MASH Song Hit To Become An Animated Film

monster mash cover

“Monster Mash” is always a graveyard smash at any Halloween party! Ever popular since its release in 1962, the hit song is becoming an animated movie at Miramax.

Miramax CEO Jonathan Glickman, who has been behind such its as Netflix’s series Wednesday, and The Addams Family animated movies at MGM, has optioned the rights from Reservoir and Capizzi Music Co.

Performed by Bobby “Boris” Pickett, who co-wrote it with Lenny Capizzi, the song has been ranked by Billboard as the “Biggest Halloween Song of All Time.”, and for good reason.

Though adapting a song into a feature film might sound like a stretch, the storyline is all there in the lyrics: a mad scientist’s monster rises from his slab to perform a new dance, inspired by the ’60s dance craze the Mashed Potato. The new dance becomes “the hit of the land” when the scientist throws a party for a host of other neighbourhood monsters, with guests including the vampires, the ghouls, the zombies, Wolfman, Dracula and his son, Igor, his baying hounds, the coffin-bangers, and the vocal group The Crypt-Kicker Five.

Said Glickman: “For more than 60 years, nothing has said Halloween quite like the ‘Monster Mash.’ We’re thrilled to be entrusted by the Pickett and Capizzi families and to be partnering with Reservoir Media to bring this iconic song to life as an animated musical for all audiences. It’s a project that celebrates the fun and spirit of the original — and should become a perennial ‘graveyard smash’ for years to come.”

SOMETHING IS KILLING THE CHILDREN To Receive Feature Treatment

erica slaughter in comic book something is killing the children

Coming on top of a multi-buyer bidding war, horror-centric banner Blumhouse has scored the rights to adapt the popular Something Is Killing the Children comic from Boom! Studios. The title, from James Tynion IV and Werther Dell’Edera, debuted in 2019 and has previously been in development as a live-action series. Blumhouse reportedly plans on adapting the comic for both the small- and big-screen, developing them simultaneously as a live-action feature and an adult animated series.

Jason Blum will produce the live-action feature for Blumhouse with the company’s Shaun Sutton and Ryan Turek serving as executive producers. Stephen Christy and Tynion will produce the film for Boom! Studios and Penguin Random House. Adam Yoelin and Mette Norkjaer will also executive produce. Co-creator Dell’Edera will act as co-producer.

Something Is Killing the Children explores a world in which monsters are seen by children while remaining invisible to adults. The comic’s first story arc told of a town plagued by monsters that feast on children, with one teen survivor telling tales that no adult believes. Enter into this setting a mysterious young woman named Erica Slaughter. The woman, who occasionally converses with her stuffed animal, isn’t there to mince words, but rather to mince monsters and save the town’s kids.

“It’s easy to see why audiences and critics alike have praised Something is Killing the Children,” said Blum in a statement, via THR. “James and Werther’s comic book series taps into our most primal fears, luring us into a fascinating world and introducing Erica Slaughter, the ass-kicking hero we all wish we had to fight the monsters that lurk in the dark.”

Something is Killing the Children is the comic book that changed my life and career forever,” stated Tynion. “Finding a partner who understood the potential of Erica Slaughter and the world Werther Dell’Edera and I have built was crucial, and we have found that partner in Jason Blum. Nobody understands horror better than Blumhouse, and I can’t wait for the world to see what we all have planned together.”

The adult animated series will see Tynion executive producing with Dell’Edera co-executive producing. Christy will executive produce the series for BOOM! with Adam Yoelin and Mette Norkjaer co-executive producing.

Karyn Kusama Provides Update On JENNIFER’S BODY Sequel

jennifer's body megan fox

Over fifteen years after a dramatically fumbled release, Jennifer’s Body has undoubtedly attained cult status among horror fans. Now, speaking to Deadline, director Karyn Kusama provides eager audiences with an update on a planned sequel, with original writer Diablo Cody on scribe duties.

“I know she’s working on it right now, and I’m very excited to hear what comes of it,” said Kusama of Cody’s sequel. “I know some of the bones of it, so I’m not going to give anything away, but it sounds fun and crazy like the first film. And I have no doubt that Diablo will do something absolutely incredible with it.”

Kusama also said she’s “just so grateful that the film managed to find its audience, perhaps on a different timeline than any of us might have expected or hoped for, but I’m just so thankful that the work continues to speak to people. I’m just so satisfied by that.”

Kusama’s comments come after Cody herself stated, last year, that she was “not done with Jennifer’s Body… I need to partner with people who believe in it as much as I do and that hasn’t really happened yet. I need someone to believe in it who has a billion dollars.” Amanda Seyfried, who played protagonist Needy alongside Megan Fox as the titular Jennifer, has expressed interest in reprising her role.

billy magnussen in no time to die, set to star in buzzkill by joe lynch

Suitable Flesh and Tales from the Void director Joe Lynch has lined up his next project, a horror comedy starring Billy Magnussen and Lulu Wilson titled Buzzkill. Lynch will direct from a screenplay by Colin McLaughlin.

In Buzzkill, a small Texas town is terrorised by a creature that can only be seen by drunk people. As if that wasn’t enticing enough, it’s also being described as a mix of A Quiet Place and Another Round, with Magnussen starring as “the recently widowed and recovering alcoholic Sheriff Red, who launches an investigation as locals begin turning up murdered and dismembered one by one, discovering that the monster feeds on the blood alcohol content of its victims. With the annual brewery festival fast approaching, the whole town is about to get wasted. Red must face his demons and pick up the bottle one last time to take down the monster and save his town for good.”

Wilson will play Lydia, Red’s vengeful little sister. Dane and Cole Eckerle are producing through their company, Bad Grey. “Colin has crafted a story that’s equal parts hilarious, scary, and action-packed — an entertaining romp from start to finish,” said Dane..

Buzzkill is set to go into production early next year.
