Netflix has released the first teaser trailer – and some first-look images – for their upcoming film and fifth instalment in the hit franchise, Spy Kids: Armageddon, which introduces Gina Rodriguez and Zachary Levi’s family.

Original franchise creator Robert Rodriguez directs and co-writes the reboot, which aims to introduce a new generation of spies with young stars Everly Carganilla and Connor Esterson as Patty and Tony. Racer Max co-writes the film, which also stars Billy Magnussen as the villain, Everly Carganilla and DJ Cotrona.

Since creating the fantastically cheesy, beloved franchise, Rodriguez has directed modern genre classics such as Sin City, Planet Terror and Alita: Battle Angel, as well as helming episodes of Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett. 

Per the official Netflix logline, Spy Kids: Armageddon will explore what happens when “the children of the world’s greatest secret agents unwittingly help a powerful Game Developer unleash a computer virus that gives him control of all technology” and are forced to “become spies themselves to save their parents and the world.”

Jigsaw Returns In SAW X Trailer

Tobin Bell is back as the Jigsaw killer in Saw X, with a deadly new game in play. The film’s new trailer sees a sick and desperate John Kramer travel to Mexico for a risky, experimental medical procedure he hopes will provide a miracle cure for his terminal cancer. Soon, however, he learns that the operation is a scam to defraud the most vulnerable. We bet you can guess what comes next…

Kramer decides to return to his work, turning the tables on the con artists in his signature way: with deranged, elaborate, deadly traps. “It’s time to play a game,” the Jigsaw killer says. “You all pretended to cure me. But what I have planned for each of you is very real.”

Described as “the most disturbing instalment of the Saw franchise yet”, the Lionsgate horror film is set between the events of Saw I and Saw II, which Saw VI and Saw 3D director Kevin Greutert returning to helm this tenth franchise instalment. Josh Stolberg and Pete Goldfinger penned the script. Saw X also stars Shawnee Smith, Steven Brand, Synnøve Macody Lund, and Michael Beach.

LOKI Season 2 Trailer Welcomes Ke Huy Quan

The first trailer for Loki season 2 has released, revealing two additions to the cast ensemble: Everything Everywhere All at Once Oscar winner Ke Huy Quan and Blindspotting star Rafael Casal.

Loki season 2 will of course see the return of stars Tom Hiddleston as Loki and Owen Wilson as Mobius M. Mobius of the Time Variance Authority, which played a central part in the first season’s events. The trailer also grants a brief look at Kang, the MCU’s current Big Bad played by embattled actor Jonathan Majors. Majors, who first appeared in the Loki season one finale as well as Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, is awaiting an August 3rd court date over domestic violence allegations.

Per the official synopsis, Loki season 2 picks up in the aftermath of the shocking season finale when Loki finds himself in a battle for the soul of the Time Variance Authority. Along with Mobius, Hunter B-15 (Wunmi Mosaku), and a team of new and returning characters, Loki navigates an ever-expanding and increasingly dangerous Multiverse in search of Sylvie (Sophia Di Martino), Judge Renslayer (Gugu Mbatha-Raw), Miss Minutes (Tara Strong), and the truth of what it means to possess free will and glorious purpose.

Eric Martin writes this six-episode season of Loki, alongside Justin Benson, Aaron Moorhead and Dan Deleeuw and Kasra Farahani.

Welcome To The New MCU: The Mattel Cinematic Universe

Mattel is taking a page out of their fellow entertainment conglomerate Marvel’s playbook: after the clear and ongoing success of Greta Gerwig’s Barbie, the toy company has confirmed that their planned Polly Pocket film will indeed be going ahead.

Speaking to Variety, Mattel Films producer Robbie Brenner confirmed the film’s script has already been written (and which Brenner promises is “great”), and that it will be directed by Girls creator Lena Dunham, with Emily in Paris star Lily Collins playing the titular Polly.

We don’t yet know what such an adaptation would involve, especially considering Polly isn’t as culturally or symbolically important to the feminist movement as Barbie. All the officially logline reveals is that “the film will centre on a young girl and a pocket-sized woman who form a friendship.”

In any case, Polly Pocket is far from being the weirdest, most absurd film the company has in the works. In fact, it’s just one of fourteen – FOURTEEN – projects in active development, including Barney, Thomas and Friends, and American Girl.

Robbie Brenner also provided updates on these and, honestly, we can’t quite wrap our heads around most of it. There’s Daniel Kaluuya’s purple dinosaur movie (“more like a Being John Malkovich… [it’ll] be more adult and have adult themes — and sort of be a little bit off-kilter.”), a Magic 8-Ball film (“a PG-13 thriller”), the Vin Diesel Rock ‘Em Sock ‘Em Robots, J.J. Abrams’ Hot Wheels (which has “real emotion and real stakes to it”, Brenner asserts in very Nicki Minaj-on-Barbie fashion). Sadly, she offered no comment on the UNO movie (yes, it’s real).

The existential despair is real, folks.

Donald Glover Writing LANDO Series

Following news that Justin Simien had parted from the Disney+ and Lucasfilm series, Variety confirms that Donald Glover and his brother, Stephen Glover, have come on to develop the Lando Calrissian series Lando.

News first broke of a Lando Calrissian limited series being developed in December 2020, with Dear White People creator Justin Simien attached to the project. The filmmaker, who recently directed the LaKeith Stanfield-starring Haunted Mansion remake for Disney, later parted ways with the Star Wars series. Sources confirm that Stephen and Donald Glover came on to develop project prior to the ongoing WGA strikes.

Originally played by Billy Dee Williams in The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, Donald Glover first appeared as Calrissian in 2018’s Solo: A Star Wars Story, which starred Alden Ehrenreich as a younger Han Solo.

Glover spoke with GQ about his return to the role earlier this year, revealing he was in talks with Lucasfilm about the possibility of stepping again into Lando’s shoes.

“I would love to play Lando again. It’s a fun time, being him. It just has to be the right way to do it. Time is precious. The past couple of years, this pandemic shit, it really had people experience time… People realize their time is valuable. You only get so much. I’m not interested in doing anything that’s going to be a waste of my time or just a paycheck. I’d much rather spend time with people that I enjoy. It just has to be the right thing, and I think it could be. Lando is definitely somebody I like to hang out with.”

Hulu’s Only Murders in the Building is back for a third season from August 8th, and the newly-released first trailer teases a brand new mystery. Season 3 will launch with two episodes, with new episodes released weekly; as with the two previous series, this third season will be comprised of ten episodes.

Following the shocking death of actor Ben Glenroy (Paul Rudd) in the final moments of season 2, Charles (Steve Martin), Oliver (Martin Short) and Mabel (Selena Gomez) are investigating the tragedy that took place behind the scenes of Oliver’s Broadway show. Aided by co-star Loretta Durkin (Meryl Streep), our trio embarks on their toughest case yet, all while director Oliver desperately attempts to put his show back together. Curtain’s up!

Paul Rudd is due to return and guest star in Only Murders in the Building ‘s third season. The popular mystery-comedy series hails from co-creators and writers Steve Martin and John Hoffman, both of whom also serve as executive producers alongside Martin Short, Selena Gomez, Dan Fogelman and Jess Rosenthal.

TMNT: MUTANT MAYHEM Confirmed For Film Sequel And TV Series

Days before Paramount’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem even premieres, the studio has already confirmed the animation TMNT film will be getting a sequel. A follow-up from director Jeff Rowe and Point Grey Pictures is in the works, as well as a two-season series for Paramount+, which is currently in development. The show is currently titled Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, with Christ Yost and Alan Wan as exec producers and showrunners.

“Reinvigorating this franchise has been years in the making, and we are thrilled to continue expanding the beloved Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles universe and bring new adventures to families and fans,” said Ramsey Naito, president of Paramount Animation and Nickelodeon Animation, in his statement announcing the series.

The planned series will also see TMNT: Mutant Mayhem stars Micah Abbey, Shamon Brown Jr., Nicolas Cantu and Brady Noon reprising their voice roles as the four titular Turtles. Per the series’ brief logline, the brothers “each will go it alone for the first time. Faced with new threats and teaming up with old allies, the Turtles will discover who they really are when they don’t have their brothers at their sides.”

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem releases in cinemas from July 31st in the UK, and August 2nd in the US. Check out the final trailer here.

Universal Unveils THE EXORCIST: BELIEVER Trailer

Universal Pictures and Blumhouse have released the first trailer for The Exorcist: Believer, the first film in a brand-new trilogy following up on the controversial 1973 cult classic, The Exorcist.

Directed by Halloween franchise helmer David Gordon Green, The Exorcist: Believer stars Leslie Odom Jr. as Victor Fielding who, since the death of his pregnant wife in a Haitian earthquake twelve years ago, has raised their daughter Angela (Lidya Jewett) on his own. But when Angela and her friend Katherine (Olivia Marcum) disappear in the woods, only to return three days later with no memory of what happened to them, it unleashes a chain of events that will force Victor to confront the nadir of evil and, in his terror and desperation, seek out the only person alive who has witnessed anything like it before: Chris MacNeil.

Ellen Burstyn reprises the role as Regan’s mother from the original film, with The Handmaid’s Tale actress Ann Dowd, Jennifer Nettles, and Norbert Leo Butz also starring. Green and Peter Sattler collaborated on the script, which is based on a story by Halloween Kills writer Scott Teems.

The Exorcist: Believer releases in cinemas on October 13th, marking the 50th anniversary of the original film. Check out the trailer below:

POOR THINGS Release Pushed To December

Though the Frankenstein-flavoured Yorgos Lanthimos film will still be making its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival this summer, Searchlight Pictures’ Poor Things has pushed back its release window from September 8th to December 8th.

Poor Things is the incredible tale and fantastical evolution of Bella Baxter (Emma Stone), a young woman brought back to life by the brilliant and unorthodox scientist Dr. Godwin Baxter (Willem Dafoe). Under Baxter’s protection, Bella is eager to learn. Hungry for the worldliness she is lacking, Bella runs off with Duncan Wedderburn (Mark Ruffalo), a slick and debauched lawyer, on a whirlwind adventure across the continents. Free from the prejudices of her times, Bella grows steadfast in her purpose to stand for equality and liberation.

Beyond Stone, Dafoe and Ruffalo, the cast also includes Ramy Youssef, Jerrod Carmichael, Kathryn Hunter, Margaret Qualley, and Christopher Abbott. Based on Alasdair Gray’s 1992 novel of the same name, Poor Things is co-written by Lanthimos and Tony McNamara (who also co-wrote The Favourite, in which Stone starred).

The delayed release is likely due to the anticipated effects of the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike.

THE BOYS Spinoff GEN V Drops Teaser Trailer

Prime Video has released the official teaser trailer for Gen V, the first live-action spinoff of its hit superhero series The Boys. The sneak preview comes ahead of the series’ debut on September 29th.

Gen V takes place at Godolkin University (run by Vought, duh), America’s only college for supes, and explores the training of the first generation of superheroes to know about Compound V and that their powers were injected into them, rather than God-given. These young, aspiring and hormone-loaded heroes put their physical, sexual and moral boundaries to the test while competing for the school’s highly coveted top ranking. When the university’s dark secrets come to light, the students must come to grips with what type of heroes they are going to become.

The cast stars Chilling Adventures of Sabrina‘s Jaz Sinclair and Chance Perdomo, Lizze Broadway, Shelley Conn, Maddie Phillips, London Thor, Derek Luh, Asa Germann, Patrick Schwarzenegger, Sean Patrick Thomas, Marco Pigossi and guest stars Clancy Brown and Jason Ritter. Jessie T. Usher, Claudia Doumit, Colby Minifie, and P.J. Byrne reprise their roles from The Boys. Agent Carter, Reaper and Dollhouse producers Michele Fazekas and Tara Butters serve as showrunners and executive producers.
