Cate Blanchett, Alicia Vikander, and a monster-sized brain star in the teaser trailer for Rumours, a politically themed horror-comedy film from filmmaker Guy Maddin. The film premiered earlier this year at the Cannes Film Festival.

Rumours follows the leaders of the seven nations comprising the G7, who meet for their annual summit but get lost in the woods whilst trying to compose a joint statement on an unspecified global crisis. Beset by thick fog and menaced by undead bog bodies and a giant brain, they navigate the tortured passions between them.

Maddin wrote and directed the feature with long-time collaborators Evan Johnson and Galen Johnson. Liz Jarvis, Philipp Kreuzer and Lars Knudsen are producing, while Blanchett and Ari Aster serve as executive producers.

The casting is as follows: Cate Blanchett as Hilda Ortmann, the Chancellor of Germany; Alicia Vikander as Celestine Sproul, the Secretary-General of the European Commission; Charles Dance as Edison Wolcott, the President of the United States; Roy Dupuis as Maxime Laplace, the Prime Minister of Canada; Denis Menochet as Sylvain Broulez, the President of France; Nikki Amuka-Bird as Cardosa Dewindt, the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom; Rolando Ravello as Antonio Lamorte, the Prime Minister of Italy; and Takehiro Hira as Tatsuro Iwasaki, the Prime Minister of Japan.

Rumours releases in cinemas from October 18th, ahead of the US presidential elections. Watch the teaser trailer below:
