Crossover Character Revealed for THE WALKING DEAD/FEAR

Fear the Walking Dead

Back in October, it was revealed that there would be a crossover of sorts between The Walking Dead and spin-off show Fear the Walking Dead. Said crossover would involve one character from the main Walking Dead show appearing in Fear, and now we know exactly who that will be.

If you’d rather wait until this character turns up on Fear, it goes without saying that you should likely turn back now. Don’t say we didn’t warn you…

SPOILER

As revealed on Talking Dead last night – to air tonight in the UK – it will be Lennie James’ Morgan who will be appearing in Fear the Walking Dead. And not just that, but Morgan will be a regular on the next season of Fear.

So there we have it. No further details are known on all of this just yet, and it’s maybe a tad early for particular specifics on how Morgan will wind up involved in the action of Fear, but, as ever, expect more on this as we get it.

ARMY OF DARKNESS and KISS Crossover Comic Coming in February

Army of Darkness KISS

With Ash Williams currently enjoying some splendid time in the spotlight thanks to Ash vs. Evil Dead, we’re set to see even more of this iconic genre fave as he teams up with KISS. Yes, as in that KISS!

From Dynamite Entertainment, the worlds of Army of Darkness and KISS are soon to collide in a new comic book series due to launch this coming February. X-Men ‘92’s duo of Chad Bowers and Chris Sims are on writing duties, with Ruairi Coleman illustrating the tale.

The early synopsis on this huge crossover series reads:

KISS is on top of the world and rocking faces until the night disciples of The Destroyer show up and the band disappears. With the tour cancelled, a young Ash misses one of the most important events of his life that will change his destiny. Now the Chosen One has to get back on the right path.

Of course, this isn’t Ash’s first time at the crossover rodeo, for the character – immortalized on screens both big and small by Bruce Campbell – has previously tangled with Jason Voorhees, Freddy Krueger, Krampus, and Xena. As for KISS, as of 2015 they had a bonkers-yet-brilliant teaming with Scoobert and the gang in Scooby-Doo! And KISS: Rock and Roll Mystery.

You can find the three different covers for #1 of this Army of Darkness and KISS pairing below:

Jude Law to Play Mar-Vell in CAPTAIN MARVEL

Jude Law Mar-Vell Captain Marvel

With Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel to make her Marvel Cinematic Universe bow in May’s Avengers: Infinity War, her 2019 solo movie has brought in a new addition in the form of Jude Law.

As per Variety, Law will be playing Doctor Walter Lawson, a mentor who will help Larson’s Carol Danvers come to terms with the superpowers bestowed upon her. As a comic book character, Doc Lawson was actually the secret identity of the original Captain Marvel, aka the Kree warrior Mar-Vell. Interestingly, the outlet reports that Law’s Lawson will also be Mar-Vell in this upcoming MCU effort.

Already on board for Captain Marvel is Rogue One’s Ben Mendelsohn as the ‘big bad’ of the picture, seemingly the leader of the nefarious alien Skrulls. Whilst it’s unofficial, it’s also believed that Samuel L. Jackson will be reprising his Nick Fury role in a two-eyed capacity. Given the ‘90s setting for the film, the action will take place during a period when Fury still had both of his peepers as opposed to rocking the eye patch look.

For those not familiar with the Carol Danvers character, she debuted back in 1968, initially a member of the US air force before later becoming Ms. Marvel in 1977 following a previous tangle with explosive Kree technology. In 2012, Danvers was given a “promotion” to the mantle of Captain Marvel. As part of her powers, she’s able to project and absorb energy as well as having the usual superhuman strength and speed not to mention the ability to fly.

To be directed by Mississippi Grind’s Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, Captain Marvel is currently set for a March 8th, 2019 release.

New HALLOWEEN Movie to Start Filming in January

Halloween Jamie Lee Curtis Michael Myers

One of the most hotly-anticipated film of 2018 for many genre fans is the Halloween reboot that John Carpenter is overseeing. While the buzz is largely positive around the project, it has now hit a small snag in terms of its shooting schedule.

Previously, the plan was for the movie to start filming last month. That was delayed due to some reported casting issues, and now, as per Bloody Disgusting, the picture is looking at getting shooting started in January.

With Carpenter on board as an executive producer, creative consultant and handling the film’s musical score, fan excitement was amped up even further when Jamie Lee Curtis was confirmed to be returning as Laurie Strode in David Gordon Green’s reboot. Written by Green and Danny McBride, the film is to pick up the action decades after Carpenter’s original 1978 classic – swiftly ignoring anything that has happened since, even including Rick Rosenthal’s Halloween II; a film that itself continued directly on from Carpenter’s film and similarly took place on the night he came home.

While Curtis has officially signed on, it appears that Judy Greer has yet to dot the I’s and cross the T’s on her deal. The Jurassic World actress is lined up to play Laurie’s daughter, Karen Strode, in the movie, although it seems that the advanced talks with Greer have yet to see her actually sign on for the picture just yet. That’s one of the reasons for the delays, as is the casting of the rest of the film’s key players – something further emphasised by a recent casting call for talent and extras.

All of that means that the current plan is to start shooting this new Halloween effort in mid-January, with the film still just about on track for its already-announced October 19th, 2018 release date.

As ever, expect more on the return of Michael Myers as we get it.

Check Out Neill Blomkamp’s Brutal Short, GDANSK

Neill Blomkamp Short Gdansk

One of the most interesting names in genre these days is Neill Blomkamp. Sure, he may not have quite hit the heights of his masterful, charming District 9 with the so-so Elysium and Chappie, but he’s one of those guys who has a head full of ideas, of which you can’t help but feel there’s a moment of genius waiting around the corner.

So with that said, seeing Blomkamp launch Oat Studios earlier this year was something that most certainly piqued our interest. Having delivered some pretty impressive shorts already, he’s now released his latest short effort, Gdansk. And it’s got to be said, it’s rather great. Well, in a totally brutal way.

Check it out for yourself in the player below:

Gdansk is the first of several shorts to be based around medieval giants, and Blomkamp drew inspiration from the work of illustrator Jakub Różalski for this particular 2-minute effort.

Now, if only we could get that on-off-possibly-on-again Alien movie which Blomkamp has openly discussed over the past year or two…

NBC Puts in Pilot Order for Jason Blum’s Supernatural Thriller Series

Jason Blum

With horror-driven TV proving to be a huge deal right now, NBC Universal has put in a pilot order for Run for Your Life.

As per Variety, Jason Blum will be executive producing the supernatural thriller which will be based around the last night of the famed Dia de Los Muertos… aka the Day of the Dead. The early plot details on the show reads: A grieving detective is thrust into a deadly game to bring someone back from the dead.

On board to star in the potential series are Josh Segarra as Julian Silva, Andrew Jacobs as Victor Macias, Carlos Leal as Yellow Skull, Danube Hermosillo as Lia Macias, Angela Alvarado as Elena Macias, Jennifer Landon as Detective Rachel Spokes, Kadeem Hardison as Captain Gilbert “Gil” Barnes and Fernanda Andrade as Mariana Silva. Of those names, genre fans will likely be most familiar with Josh Segarra, who played Adrian Chase/Prometheus in Arrow’s fifth season.

Should the pilot end up successfully being picked up as a full series, it’s expected that it will air on Syfy or USA over in the United States.

As mentioned, horror TV is big business right now, although the end result has been a bit of a mixed bag. While the likes of Bates Motel have wowed, others such as Damien have been absolutely awful. Then there’s also the trepidation shown by networks with shows of a horror nature, such as how FOX was a tad hesitant to renew the rather good The Exorcist for a second season (which they ultimately did) or how NBC sadly pulled the plug on the excellent Hannibal after three seasons.

New Plot Details on Tarantino’s Manson Family Effort

Quentin Tarantino

We’ve known for a little while now that Quentin Tarantino’s next movie pull some sort of inspiration from the infamous Manson Family murders, and now some more concrete plot details have been revealed.

Last week saw QT explain that the film wasn’t to be a straight-up big screen telling of those horrendous 1969 acts, and now we’ve got a bit more clarification on all of this.

As per a Vanity Fair report:

Set in Los Angeles in the summer of 1969, Tarantino’s upcoming movie, according to a source who read the script, focuses on a male TV actor who’s had one hit series and is looking for a way to get into the film business. His sidekick – who’s also his stunt double – is looking for the same thing. The horrific murder of Sharon Tate and four of her friends by Charles Manson’s cult of followers serves as a backdrop to the main story.

Of course, it goes without saying that this is far from official, but it would definitely match up with what Tarantino has been alluding to. The picture has yet to announce any of its cast at this stage, although heavy hitters such as Margot Robbie, Leonardo DiCaprio, Brad Pitt, Tom Cruise and Samuel L. Jackson have been linked to the project.

The to-be-titled new movie is due to start filming next year ahead of a 2019 release, and the picture will be housed at Sony following plenty of suitors offering their services to Tarantino. Previously, every QT effort had been released by Miramax or The Weinstein Company.

Lizzy Caplan Replaces Lea Seydoux on GAMBIT

Lizzy Caplan Bella Donna Boudreaux Gambit Marvel 20th Century Fox

Fox’s long-gestating Gambit has moved to bring in a new cast member as the film finally looks to start shooting ahead of its new February 2019 release date.

As per Variety, Lizzy Caplan has joined Gambit to replace the previously-attached Lea Seydoux as Bella Donna Boudreaux. Seydoux has had to drop out of the picture due to the countless delays that it’s suffered from, and so the Masters of Sex, Cloverfield and Freaks and Geeks actress has been brought in as a replacement.

For the character of Bella Donna Boudreaux herself, she first appeared back in 1992’s X-Men Vol. 2 #8. A love interest of sorts for Remy LaBeau – to be played here by Channing Tatum – things, of course, went pear-shaped between the pair. The duo came together as part of an arranged marriage involving the New Orleans Assassins’ Guild. Gambit ended up taking off, leaving Bella behind to develop her own plasma-based powers.

Previously, Gambit was booked in for an October 2016 release, then October 2017, then it was completely pulled from 20th Century Fox’s release schedule before recently being booked in for February 14th, 2019.

On the directing front, Rise of the Planet of the Apes’ Rupert Wyatt was in the director’s chair at one point in time before departing over various issues. Then came Edge of Tomorrow’s Doug Liman, before he also vacated the director’s chair due to the numerous delays encountered by the project. Now, the last we’d heard on that topic was that Pirates of the Caribbean’s Gore Verbinski has been in deep talks with Fox to helm Gambit, although nothing official has yet to come out on that just yet.

As ever, expect more on Gambit as it continues to develop.
