peter sohn to direct the incredibles 3

Incredibles 3 has found its director in Peter Sohn! The Hollywood Reporter breaks that the Elemental and The Good Dinosaur filmmaker will direct the third entry in the beloved Pixar animated series.

Brad Bird wrote the screenplays for, and directed the first two films in the franchise. Bird is currently in the process of writing the screenplay for this third film, which he will also produce alongside Dana Murray.

The series follows Bob and Helen Parr, who live in the quiet suburbs with their three children (Violet, Dash, and Jack-Jack) after being forced to hide their superpowers by a new government mandate. The first The Incredibles was released in 2004 and won the Oscar for Best Animated Feature; Incredibles 2 followed 14 years later. Disney announced a third film was being developed at their 2024 D23 Expo event.

There’s no indication yet of what the plot for The Incredibles 3 might entail, but stay tuned for more information as we hear it! Likewise, we don’t yet have a release date but again, stay tuned.

Sohn and Bird have a long history of working together, with Sohn having worked on every single animated Bird film, so we know this feature is in good hands.

THE MASQUE OF THE RED DEATH Casts Mikey Madison

the masque of the red death casts anora star mikey madison

Mikey Madison has (finally!) set one of her first roles since winning the Academy Award for her performance in last year’s Anora. Madison is reportedly in talks to star in The Masque of the Red Death, an A24 and Picturestart re-imagining of the 1842 Edgar Allan Poe short story from filmmaker Charlie Polinger.

The Hollywood Reporter writes that Madison would play twin sisters in a story that sees a mad prince take in the noble class into his castle while a plague devastates the peasantry. The story sees a long-lost twin, hidden among the lower class, enter the castle and into a decadent world of orgies, opium, power schemes, revenge and decapitations.

Madison replaces Sydney Sweeney in the role, as the latter had to drop out of the project due to scheduling issues. The tone of the film is reportedly “quintessential A24”, a black-comedy adaptation.

Polinger wrote the screenplay, which was featured on the 2023 Black List. He also made his feature directorial debut this year with The Plague, a psychological horror film about a socially awkward tween who endures the ruthless hierarchy at a water polo camp.

The Masque of the Red Death is due to begin production at the end of this year, or beginning of next year.

ABRAHAM’S BOYS: A DRACULA STORY Trailer Releases

still image of trailer for abraham's boys: a dracula story

Joe Hill’s short story is adapted to the big screen in Abraham’s Boys: A Dracula Story, from director Natasha Kermani. Abraham’s Boys reimagines vampire lore through the eyes of Van Helsing’s sons, as they unravel their father’s complicated legacy. The story blends gothic horror with a modern exploration of generational trauma, set in the world of Bram Stoker’s horror classic.

In the upcoming film, “Max and Rudy Van Helsing have spent their lives under the strict and overprotective rule of their father, Abraham. Unaware of his dark past, they struggle to understand his paranoia and increasingly erratic behaviour. But when they begin to uncover the violent truths behind their father’s history with Dracula, their world unravels, forcing them to confront the terrifying legacy they were never meant to inherit.”

The film stars veteran actor Titus Welliver, Jocelin Donahue, Aurora Perrineau, Judah Mackey, and Brady Hepner.

Hill’s short story originally appeared in the 2004 anthology The Many Faces of Van Helsing, before being published the next year in the author’s short story collection, 20th Century Ghosts.

Abraham’s Boys: A Dracula Story is set to release in cinemas on July 11th, 2025, courtesy of RLJE Films and Shudder. Watch the trailer below:

Mia Goth Joins STAR WARS: STARFIGHTER

maxxxine star mia goth to board cast of the odyssey

A new face has joined the galaxy far, far away, as Mia Goth has signed up to appear alongside Ryan Gosling in Star Wars: Starfighter.

Goth, known among horror fans for the likes of MaXXXine and Infinity Pool, takes on a role that Anora‘s Mikey Madison reportedly passed on earlier this year after a pay dispute. She will (according to THR) play one of a group of villains pursuing Gosling’s ace pilot and his young charge across the galaxy.

Yes, it sounds like it’s another of the ever-popular DILF-and-kid team-ups; with Baby Yoda been and done, place your bets now – Baby Ki-Adi-Mundi? Baby Oppo Rancisis? The merchandising opportunities will come at hyperspeed.

Star Wars: Starfighter is a standalone story set approximately five years after the last big-screen instalment, The Rise of Skywalker. It’s currently set for a release on 28 May 2027. Deadpool and Wolverine‘s Shawn Levy directs, with a script by Jonathan Tropper.

Before that, Mia Goth can next be seen in Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein and Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey.

Another Familiar Face Returning to DOCTOR WHO?

Billie Piper in Doctor Who

After the surprising ending of the Doctor Who Season 2 (or is it Series 15?) finale The Reality War, in which Ncuti Gatwa regenerated into Billie Piper, fans have been left wondering what comes next. And with no further series yet commissioned – due reportedly to Disney’s reticence to hand over any more funding until after they have Season 2’s (or Season 41’s?) viewing figures – there seems to be no clear answer.

One possibility has emerged, thanks to an unnamed source speaking to The Sun and The Mirror (don’t be too sus about that – the tabloids’ sources have been correct in the past). Apparently, the Who producers are considering a special episode to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the show’s return in 2005, which would reunite Billie Piper – who originally played Rose Tyler, now seemingly the Sixteenth Doctor – with David Tennant – who originally played the Tenth Doctor, followed by the Fourteenth. Isn’t Doctor Who continuity a delight?

Bringing Tennant back would mark his third return to the show after he originally left it in 2010, and would seem soon after his last return in 2023 for the 60th anniversary specials (in fact, the frequency with which he shows up was the subject of a joke near the end of The Reality War). But he does remain one of the more popular Doctors with fans and the wider viewing public, associated with a time when the show was at the height of its phenomenon.

Whatever happens next with Doctor Who, we know for sure that we have its latest spin-off, The War Between the Land and the Sea, to look forward to. Focusing on UNIT as they deal with a Sea Devil uprising, this five-part miniseries is expected to air later in 2025.

MA Sequel In The Works With Octavia Spencer Returning

octavia spencer in ma set for sequel

Octavia Spencer is back for a sequel to the psychological horror thriller, Ma, in which she starred in 2019. Blumhouse announced that the follow-up film is in development, and that Oscar winning actress Spencer would return as Sue Ann, the lonely woman with a dark side.

In Ma, an isolated woman befriends a group of teens, allowing them to use her basement for parties. Yet things take a sinister turn as she begins implementing a series of strict rules for the kids hanging out at her house, including never venturing upstairs. Perhaps a little oddly, Blumhouse stated at its business of fear event that part of the reason they greenlit a sequel for Ma was due to the number of memes inspired by the film, interpreting that as a sign that the feature has staying power in pop culture.

Ma has proven to be a social phenomenon since its release in 2019, with fans eagerly embracing the film and Octavia’s iconic performance as Ma. Ma likes to say ‘don’t make me drink alone,’ so we’re thrilled Octavia will join us again for a second round,” said Jason Blum.

There’s no word yet on who might direct or write the sequel. Stay tuned for more.

WICKED: FOR GOOD Releases First Trailer

still from trailer for wicked: for good starring cynthia erivo and ariana grande

The second chapter of the Wicked film adaptation comes later this year, and the trailer for what is being titled Wicked: For Good has now been released.

Directed once again by award-winning director Jon M. Chu and starring Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande, the final chapter of the untold story of the witches of Oz begins with Elphaba and Glinda estranged and living with the consequences of their choices.

Elphaba (Erivo), now demonized as The Wicked Witch of the West, lives in exile, hidden within the Ozian forest while continuing her fight for the freedom of Oz’s silenced Animals and desperately trying to expose the truth she knows about The Wizard (Jeff Goldblum).

Glinda, meanwhile, has become the glamorous symbol of Goodness for all of Oz, living at the palace in Emerald City and reveling in the perks of fame and popularity. Under the instruction of Madame Morrible (Michelle Yeoh), Glinda is deployed to serve as an effervescent comfort to Oz, reassuring the masses that all is well under the rule of The Wizard.

As Glinda’s stardom expands and she prepares to marry Prince Fiyero (Jonathan Bailey) in a spectacular Ozian wedding, she is haunted by her separation from Elphaba. She attempts to broker a conciliation between Elphaba and The Wizard, but those efforts will fail, driving Elphaba and Glinda only further apart. The aftershocks will transform Boq (Ethan Slater) and Fiyero forever, and threaten the safety of Elphaba’s sister, Nessarose (Marissa Bode), when a girl from Kansas comes crashing into all their lives.

As an angry mob rises against the Wicked Witch, Glinda and Elphaba will need to come together one final time. With their singular friendship now the fulcrum of their futures, they will need to truly see each other, with honesty and empathy, if they are to change themselves, and all of Oz, for good.

Wicked: For Good releases in cinemas from November 17th, 2025. Watch the trailer below:

BLACK PHONE 2 Drops Trailer

the black phone 2 trailer still with the grabber

Blumhouse has revealed the first poster and trailer for Black Phone 2, the highly-anticipated sequel to 2021’s horror thriller The Black Phone. Scott Derrickson returns to direct the feature, with four-time Oscar nominee Ethan Hawke also returning to his role as The Grabber.

In this new film, The Grabber seeks vengeance on Finn (Mason Thames) from beyond the grave by threatening his younger sister, Gwen (Madeleine McGraw).

The cast also includes Demián Bichir, Arianna Rivas, Miguel Mora, and Jeremy Davies returning as Finn and Gwen’s father, Terrence. Maeve Beaty and Graham Abbey will also appear.

Black Phone 2 is again written by Derrickson and C. Robert Cargill, based on characters created by Joe Hill. The film is produced by Jason Blum, Derrickson and Cargill. The executive producers are Adam Hendricks and Ryan Turek. The film is set to open in cinemas on October 17th, 2025.

In June 2022, Derrickson said that while Joe Hill was protective of his story, the author had pitched him a “wonderful idea” for a sequel that he was open to directing if the first film was a success. Two months later, the pair confirmed they were in discussions with the studio to make a sequel. Hill said that his inspiration to writing a sequel was based on the “iconic imagery” of the Graber’s masks.

SPLIT FICTION Adaptation To Star Sydney Sweeney, Jon M. Chu Directing

split fiction video game trailer graphic

Amazon MGM Studios is finalising a deal to acquire Split Fiction, Deadline reports, a hot feature package based on the 2025 action-adventure video game of the same name. The film would see Wicked filmmaker Jon M. Chu and Sydney Sweeney team up to adapt it.

The script hails from Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese, the duo behind the recent MCU film Deadpool & Wolverine.

Split Fiction centres on two writers, Mio Hudson and Zoe Foster, who become trapped inside a simulation created by a tech company that uses AI to mine authors’ ideas (eerily relevant, we know). The pair must work together to escape as they navigate surreal environments, inspired by their respective genres of sci-fi and fantasy. Sweeney will play one of the two authors, though her specific role hasn’t been disclosed.

Story Kitchen’s Dmitri M. Johnson & Mike Goldberg will produce the feature take, with Timothy I. Stevenson executive producing. Electric Somewhere is also producing, with Hazelight Studios’ Josef Fares and Oskar Wolontis exec producing.

“Even in early development here at Hazelight, it was clear how much potential ‘Split Fiction’ had to become a kick-ass movie,” Wolontis told Variety on Monday. “We now know it’s got a shot at becoming something truly special with such an amazing creative team behind it. Jon M. Chu, Sydney Sweeney, Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, together with Story Kitchen, have all been champions and true fans of this project since day one, and we can’t wait to see their vision for this movie come to life! Amazon MGM has shown intense interest in this project and we’re happy to see them show both confidence and clear intent to bring this movie to all current and future fans of ‘Split Fiction’ out there. We look forward to holding them to that and working together to bring Mio and Zoe to screen.”
