Movie News: Be In STAR WARS With JJ Abrams’ Charity Initiative FORCE FOR CHANGE

STAR WARS Director JJ Abrams has announced a chance to win a place in the next STAR WARS movie. The scheme is called ‘Force for Change’ and is designed to raise money for UNICEF’s Innovation Lab. This child focused charity uses technological innovations in order to improve lives in the third world.

For a chance to win, interested parties need to make a donation via charity fundraising website Omaze.com. In addition to an opportunity to travel to London and be part of the new movie, those with big wallets can also get special rewards. $40 just gets you a thank-you card (and four entries into the competition) but $10000 gets you a signed copy of the script, 1000 chances to win and your own light-sabre. If you happen to be super-rich, you could always shell out $50000 for your own private advanced screening and 5000 chances to win.  Clearly the competition is weighted in favour of the big spenders, but $10 gets you one entry and it is for a good cause. Maybe we’ve all watched Charlie and the Chocolate Factory too many times but you never know; that one entry might just do it.

For more information, take a look at the very special message from JJ Abrams below. Pay special attention to a cameo from a very Star Wars style special effect, which looks amazing.

Movie News: Cinematic IT Adaptation Finds New Home

A big screen version of Stephen King’s IT has been in development for a few years now, although today brings word from The Hollywood Reporter that the project has found a new home. Originally tied to Warner Brothers, the adaptation will instead by handled by the studio’s New Line division. It’s said that this is set to be the trend going forward for such movies, as New Line will be handling all things horror for Warners.

Back in 2012, TRUE DETECTIVE’s Cary Fukunaga was brought on board to direct, and that appears to still be the case. Fukunago will also be working on the script with Chase Palmer, whilst David Katzenberg, Roy Lee, Dan Lin and Seth Grahame-Smith will be producing. Developed into a clasic miniseries back in 1990, this time IT will be turned into two movies; one focussing on the key characters as children, one focussing on them as adults.

The basic premise of IT centres on a promise made twenty eight years ago by a group of seven adults. After battling an evil beast that tormented children, the group of then youngsters vowed to return to their hometown and do battle once more should the monster reappear. Of course, said creature, oft in the form of Pennywise the clown, returns to torment the children of the modern day, causing the crew to get back together again.

Movie News: Zack Snyder’s MAN OF STEEL Sequel Finally Gets a Title

After months of hesitantly referring to it as BATMAN VS SUPERMAN or simply the MAN OF STEEL sequel, we now have an official title for Zack Snyder’s upcoming Batman/Superman mash-up. And with that, step forward BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE.

With many people seeing this sequel as nothing more than a Justice League-lite movie, it appears that the DAWN OF JUSTICE subtitle is definitely in line with that thinking. The film has also launched an official site at BatmanvSupermanDawnofJustice.com. There ain’t much to see there right now bar the above logo, but we’re sure that some viral, cryptic posts and stories will appear as the movie’s release starts to get close. It’s also cool to see Superman essentially getting second billing in his own sequel. That’s what you get for levelling large parts of a city!

Starring Ben Affleck as Bruce Wayne/Batman, Henry Cavill as Clark Kent/Superman, Gal Gadot as Diana Prince/Wonder Woman, Ray Fisher as Victor Stone/Cyborg, Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Jeremy Irons as Alfred Pennyworth, Diane Lane as Martha Kent, Laurence Fishburne as Perry White, and unconfirmed roles for Holly Hunter, Callan Mulvey and Tao Okamoto, BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE is currently set for a 6th May, 2016 release.

TV News: TRUE DETECTIVE Season 2 Casting Rumours

True Detective was a beautifully shot, cop show steeped in gothic Americana, one that dealt with religion, drugs, sexual violence and more besides. With the only faux pas being a severe lack of strong female characters and Rust going a bit over the top in his maudlin soliloquies, it’s safe to say the show was a rightful hit.

Series two would be a welcomed site of the small screen, though nothing has been officially confirmed by HBO. Brad Pitt was widely believed to be spear-heading the follow-up. Nerdist has released some juicy casting titbits. The lead role has apparently been offered to Interstellar’s Jessica Chastain. This decision would certainly combat critic that the show lacked any powerful female characters. Most women on the show were two-dimensional or dead.

Creator Nic Pizzolatto said that series two will contain ‘hard women, bad men and the secret occult history of the United States transportation system.’ I’m sure you’ll agree this sounds potentially exciting. Would you see a return to brooding ageing men, or a proactive and engaging female lead? If so, who would you pitch the role too?

TV News: HEMLOCK GROVE 2nd Season Launch Date Announced…

If you’ve been dying to return to HEMLOCK GROVE to witness more of the towns supernatural shenanigans then you’re patience is about to be rewarded. The Netflix Original Series will be back 11th July for a second ten episode season.

If you’re a recent subscriber to Netflix now would be the perfect time to catch up with the first season and get yourself introduced to inhabitants of the Pennsylvanian town. It’s an unusual mixture of medical conspiracy drama, murder mystery, horror and, perhaps, a social commentary about the disparities between extreme wealth and abject poverty. Basically vampires are well wedged and werewolves are trailer trash. Who says popular culture can’t be educational and informative?

Gaming News: First Gameplay Trailer Hits for BATMAN: ARKHAM KNIGHT

For many of us, there is something reassuring about Kevin Conroy as the voice of Batman. He’s been voicing our favourite vigilante billionaire in cartoons, films and games for over two decades now and after not reprising the Dark Knight Detective for ARKHAM ORIGINS, Conroy thankfully returns to the fold for Rocksteady’s upcoming BATMAN: ARKHAM KNIGHT.

The game seems to follow the usual ARKHAM formula: bit of Gotham gets fenced off, the rogue’s gallery move in, Batman, block-punch-block, and so on. Notably, there is the addition of the Batmobile as a playable vehicle and glimpses of Scarecrow, Penguin, Two-Face, Oracle and Harley Quinn.

Take a look at the latest trailer in the player below…

{starburst}http://youtu.be/dxa34RatmSc{/starburst}

Official Synopsis:

Scarecrow returns to Gotham City to unite the Rogues Gallery in a master plan to destroy the Batman once and for all. When the citizens of Gotham are forced to flee, the remaining criminal gangs converge to take control of the city. Undermanned and overpowered, Batman aims to even the odds by bringing his legendary Batmobile to the fight. This showdown between criminal masterminds and the Dark Knight will decide the future of the city that Batman is sworn to protect.

BATMAN: ARKHAM KNIGHT hits PS4, Xbox One and PC later this year.

Movie News: AGE OF ULTRON’s New Look Hawkeye Revealed!

This almost snuck by us in the whole “DC being bad at doing DC stuff”, but this on-set picture of Hawkeye from Marvel’s AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON is a little more “classic Hawkeye” than what we’ve seen so far in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, or recently in the Matt Fraction/David Aja comics (a.k.a “Hawkguy”, a.k.a “Bro”). It just seems more formal, like The Avengers’ AGM has been interrupted. Hence all the rubble, I suppose. Anyway, check out the image below…

AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON hits cinemas May 1st, 2015.
