Prolific voice actress Cree Summer has joined the cast of Marvel’s upcoming Disney+ series Ironheart, Deadline reports. Whether hers will be another voice role or a live-action performance is unclear, though our bet’s on Summer voicing the A.I. that powers Ironheart’s suit – like J.A.R.V.I.S. and F.R.I.D.A.Y. did for Iron Man. In the comics, Ironheart has Tony Stark’s digitised consciousness as an AI to teach and mentor her in how to best use her suit, but we don’t see Robert Downey Jr. returning to the MCU for a voice role.

The news comes amid growing rumours that Sacha Baron Cohen has also boarded the upcoming series, supposedly for a role introduced towards the end of the season’s run. Various sources speculates Baron Cohen may be playing the renowned comic book villain Mephisto, though neither Marvel nor the comedian’s representatives have commented on the story.

Dominique Thorne will star in Ironheart as Riri Williams, a genius inventor and creator of the most advanced suit of armour since Tony Stark/Iron Man – post-Endgame, Ironheart could be introducing Stark’s replacement in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Williams is set to be introduced in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever next month, before making her solo debut.

Ryan Coogler (Black PantherWakanda Forever) and his production banner, Proximity Media, are aboard the creative team, with Sam Bailey and Angela Barnes directing from head writer Chinaka Hodge’s (Snowpiercer series) scripts.

Cree Summer joins previously announced actors Anthony Ramos, Manny Montana, Shakira Barrera, Alden Ehrenreich, Regan Aliyah, Shea Couleé, Zoe Terakes and Paul Calderón.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is set to release in cinemas from November 11th 2022, while the Ironheart series does not yet have a streaming date – however, filming is expected to begin this month, so fans can likely expect a mid-2023 series debut.
