Marvel gave Comic-Con an emotionally-charged and stunning first look at the upcoming Black Panther sequel, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, set to Tems’ beautiful cover of Bob Marley’s “No Woman, No Cry”. The trailer offers a moving tribute to the late Chadwick Boseman, who portrayed King T’Challa in the MCU before he passed away in 2020.

Director Ryan Coogler was the one to introduce the trailer and took the opportunity to reflect on bringing footage from the first film to the convention five years prior. He recalled sitting next to Boseman, who hadn’t yet seen the footage, and having the actor grab Coogler’s shoulder in excitement.

“He had these enormous hands. It was part of the reason he filled out the suit so well.
He was really, really strong,” said Coogler. “He was getting excited as the clip went on. And he was just squeezing down on my shoulder the entire time.”

“I couldn’t even feel my arm. And I felt his hand the rest of that day, for the next few hours. And standing with you all…” Coogler continued, “I promise you I can feel his hand on me right now. Chad is no longer with us physically, but his passion, his genius, his pride, his culture, and the impact he made on this industry will be felt forever.”

Wakanda Forever‘s stars include Lupita Nyong’o, Angela Bassett, Danai Gurira, Letitia Wright and Winston Duke, and introduces Marvel newcomer Tenoch Huerta as Namor, the son of a human father and an Atlantean princess, raised to be the king of the undersea people. Though it’s difficult to tell from the trailer, could audiences expect a face-off between Wakandans and Atlanteans? The Black Panther sequel also introduces Dominique Thorne’s Riri Williams, the teenage genius who becomes the hero Ironheart.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever will release on November 11th, 2022. Watch the first trailer below:
