Solo: A Star Wars Story star Alden Ehrenreich has been cast in a key role in the MCU’s Ironheart series, Deadline reports.

Dominique Thorne is already aboard to star as Riri Williams, a genius inventor and creator of the most advanced suit of armour since Tony Stark/Iron Man – given the events of Endgame, Ironheart could be introducing Stark’s replacement in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Williams is set to be introduced in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever later this year before making her solo debut.

Anthony Ramos was previously announced to have joined the project in an unknown role; like Ramos, exactly who Ehrenreich will be playing in the upcoming Disney+ series remains a mystery.

Ryan Coogler (Black Panther, Wakanda Forever) and his production banner, Proximity Media, are aboard the creative team, with Sam Bailey and Angela Barnes directing from head writer Chinaka Hodge’s (Snowpiercer series) scripts.

Alden Ehrenreich recently finished production on Christopher Nolan’s star-packed Oppenheimer, and will next be seen in Elizabeth Banks’ Cocaine Bear.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is set to release in cinemas from November 11th 2022, while the Ironheart series does not yet have a streaming date – however, filming is expected to wrap in mid-October of this year, so fans can likely expect an early 2023 series debut.
