In some news that we didn’t see coming after the first few episodes of AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D., ABC has confirmed that they are renewing the show for a second season. In addition to this, the network has also ordered a full series of AGENT CARTER, the CAPTAIN AMERICA spin-off starring Hayley Atwell as Peggy Carter.

The official word on AGENT CARTER reads:

“It’s 1946, and peace has dealt Peggy Carter a serious blow as she finds herself marginalised when the men return home from fighting abroad. Working for the covert SSR (Strategic Scientific Reserve), Peggy must balance doing administrative work and going on secret missions for Howard Stark all while trying to navigate life as a single woman in America, in the wake of losing the love of her life – Steve Rogers.”

As well as playing Peggy Carter in CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE FIRST AVENGER, Atwell also returned to the role in the One-Shot AGENT CARTER that was included on the IRON MAN 3 home release, not to mention an absolutely heartbreaking cameo in CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER.
