Last week saw Josh Trank’s THE FANTASTIC FOUR add Tim Blake Nelson as Harvey Elder, aka The Mole Man, and now comes word that Dr. Franklin Storm has been cast in the FF reboot. According to The Hollywood Reporter, THE WIRE and HOUSE OF CARDS’ Reg E. Cathey will be playing the pop of Sue and Johnny Storm.

In the original FANTASTIC FOUR comic series, Dr. Storm was presumed dead. Most definitely not dead, he operated on Sue Storm in order to save her life… and then did actually die in the following issue. Interestingly, those particular injuries to Sue were caused by The Mole Man. In the more recent ‘Ultimate’ telling of the FF’s origin, Dr. Storm is actually partially responsible for the actual creation of Marvel’s superhero family. Also, the ridiculously powerful offspring of Reed Richards and Sue, Franklin, is named after Dr. Storm.

Cathey joins a cast that includes Miles Teller as Reed Richards/Mr. Fantastic, Kate Mara as Sue Storm/Invisible Woman, Michael B. Jordan as Johnny Storm/Human Torch, Jamie Bell as Ben Grimm/The Thing, Toby Kebbell as Dr. Doom, and the aforementioned Tim Blake Nelson as Harvey Elder.

Trank’s FF redo is currently set for a 19th June, 2015 release, with a sequel also already confirmed for a 14th July, 2017.
