The remake machine continues its relentless plough through the 1980s, and the next announced is Puppet Master, David Schmoeller’s 1989 horror masterpiece of killer toy schlock.

The movie saw a group of psychics searching for the discoveries of a deceased colleague coming into conflict with a group of deadly puppets brought to life by an alchemist using an ancient Egyptian spell, each of the puppets coming with its own unique method of gruesomely despatching its victims. It’s as demented as this sounds.

Produced by comedy horror legend Charles Band, there have been 12 instalments of the saga so far, including a non-canon crossover with the marginally less bonkers Demonic Toys series and the DTV Puppet Master: Axis Termination, the closing chapter of a dismal prequel trilogy set to fill Asda’s bargain bin later this year.

No plot details have yet been released for the remake, but it bodes well that it’s set to be scripted by S. Craig Zahler, the writer-director of the recent (and fantastic) Bone Tomahawk. Also, its current working title is either The Little Reich (as per IMDb) or The Littlest Reich (as it’s being reported), and we’ll get back to you once we’ve tallied all the different ways that this is utterly terrifying.
