The largest dedicated gaming expo outside of London, PLAY EXPO will take place at EventCity, Manchester (just opposite The Trafford Centre) on October 11th/12th. Now in its fifth year, PLAY EXPO attracted 16,000 visitors last year, and this year has a capacity for 25,000.

As well as all the things one would expect from a gaming expo, this year the event will host film and TV signings from a host of celebrities from the likes of STAR WARS, RED DWARF and DOCTOR WHO. Already confirmed are David Prowse (Darth Vader), Kenny Baker (R2D2), Jeremy Bulloch (Boba Fett) and Red Dwarf’s Craig Charles and Chris Barrie.

Hosted by Replay Events, the event also features industry speakers; Charles Cecil MBE (Revolution Software), Mel Croucher (DEUS EX MACHINA), and Cinemaware are already confirmed, and there will be all manner of video, table top, card game tournaments. The last heat and finals of the UK’s first national Classic Gaming Championship will also take place over the weekend.

There’s plenty for the general browser to do too, with merchandise, retro games section and the largest pinball and arcade zone in Europe. Oh, and all 250 machines will be set for free play, so what’s not to like about that?
