Check Out the NOW WE ARE SIX HUNDRED Podcast

National Poetry Day may have been last week, but you can still wax lyrical with poems inspired by Doctor Who with the recently-released book Now We Are Six Hundred: A Collection of Time Lord Verse. Plus you can go behind the scenes of the book with a free podcast available on Soundcloud.

Now We Are Six Hundred is a gentle collection of charming, funny and whimsical poems that celebrate the joys, sorrows and wonders of Time Lord life. Written by author James Goss, the book features illustrations by former Doctor Who Executive Producer Russell T Davies – his first role as an illustrator, using the comic artist skills he developed in his youth.

Listen to Russell T Davies and James Goss talk to Richard E. Grant about how they collaborated on Now We Are Six Hundred – an ingenious book of poetry, illustrated and inspired by Doctor Who. They also share their thoughts on the new Doctor as played by Jodie Whittaker, their top tips for writing in general, and their upcoming projects.

The poems are read by Jon Culshaw and music is composed by Blair Mowat.

Synopsis Revealed for PACIFIC RIM UPRISING

With the Pacific Rim sequel – Pacific Rim Uprising – currently in production ahead of its 2018 release, we’ve now finally been given a full synopsis for the follow-up ahead of its trailer debuting tomorrow at New York Comic Con.

Starring John Boyega, Scott Eastwood, Jing Tian, Cailee Spaeny, Rinko Kikuchi, Burn Gorman, Adria Arjona and Charlie Day, the official word on the sequel is as follows:

The globe-spanning conflict between otherworldly monsters of mass destruction and the human-piloted super-machines built to vanquish them was only a prelude to the all-out assault on humanity in Pacific Rim Uprising.

John Boyega stars as the rebellious Jake Pentecost, a once-promising Jaeger pilot whose legendary father gave his life to secure humanity’s victory against the monstrous Kaiju. Jake has since abandoned his training only to become caught up in a criminal underworld. But when an even more unstoppable threat is unleashed to tear through our cities and bring the world to its knees, he is given one last chance to live up to his father’s legacy by his estranged sister, Mako Mori – who is leading a brave new generation of pilots that have grown up in the shadow of war. As they seek justice for the fallen, their only hope is to unite together in a global uprising against the forces of extinction.

Jake is joined by gifted rival pilot Lambert and 15-year-old Jaeger hacker Amara, as the heroes of the PPDC become the only family he has left. Rising up to become the most powerful defense force to ever walk the earth, they will set course for a spectacular all-new adventure on a towering scale.

To be directed by Steven S. DeKnight, Pacific Rim Uprising is currently booked in for a March 23rd, 2018 release.

BOB’S BURGERS Movie in Development

In some news that’s sure to please many out there, it’s just been announced that 20th Century Fox is developing a Bob’s Burgers movie.

The much-loved animated series began life back in 2011 and can be found on Comedy Central here in the UK. But you likely know all of that, so let’s get to the juicy details.

Find the official press release on this news below:

Twentieth Century Fox today announced that the Emmy Award-winning animated TV show BOB’S BURGERS would be coming to cinema screens in an all-new animated feature film.

The popular show, which first premiered on Fox TV in January 2011 has become a firm favorite of critics and fans, prompting wildly enthusiastic reviews (“Wickedly Funny” – CNN; “One of Television’s best comedies”- The A.V. Club) and generating a whirlwind of viewer interaction on social media and through live events. Between its Sunday night airings on Fox and Hulu, nearly 8 million people watch the show in the US and its popularity is growing internationally.

Show creator Loren Bouchard said: “We’re thrilled to be invited to bring BOB’S BURGERS to the big screen. We want to thank Stacey and everyone at 20th Century Fox Film and Gary and Dana at FTG [Fox Television Group] for being such great supporters. We know the movie has to scratch every itch the fans of the show have ever had, but it also has to work for all the good people who’ve never seen the show. We also know it has to fill every inch of the screen with the colors and the sounds and the ever so slightly greasy texture of the world of Bob’s – but most of all it has to take our characters on an epic adventure. In other words, it has to be the best movie ever made. But no pressure, right?!”

“What a year for BOB’S BURGERS!” commented FTG Chairmen Gary Newman and Dana Walden. “First, the Emmy Award for Best Animated Series and now, an amazing opportunity for the gifted Loren Bouchard to take the Belcher family to the movies. Loren, Jim and their talented team continue to knock it out of the park week after week, and seven years in, the show is still growing. Working with Stacey and everyone at the feature studio, we know this important property is in the best possible hands.”

Stacey Snider, Chairman and CEO of Twentieth Century Fox Film said: “A BOB’S BURGERS film fits perfectly with our initiative to redouble our family and animation efforts; we’re grateful to Dana and Gary for trusting us with this beloved property and we’re so excited to be working with Loren and his team.”

BOB’S BURGERS follows the lives, loves and misadventures of the Belcher family and their friends and rivals. Bob Belcher runs a hamburger restaurant in a seaside town, with his ever-optimistic wife Linda and their three children: the self-conscious Tina, goofball Gene and precocious Louise.

Since launch the show has won numerous awards including two Emmys, spawned a best-selling cookbook, and a soundtrack album. For the last three years the show has gone on the road with the Bob’s Burger’s Live tour, selling out venues across the United States. Fan loyalty was also celebrated with a special fan-drawn Season 8 premiere on Fox TV.

As ever, expect more on the Bob’s Burgers movie as we get it.

Well, now we have an answer to that question.

As per EW, it’s been revealed that Danny Rand will actually turn up in the second season of Marvel’s Luke Cage. At this stage, there’s no word on just how big a role Iron Fist will have to play when Power Man’s series returns.

Joining Colter and Jones in Season 2 are the returning Simone Missick as Misty Knight, Rosario Dawson as Claire Temple, Alfre Woodard as Mariah Dillard and Theo Rossi as Shades. In terms of new additions, Mustafa Shakir is playing John McIver and Gabrielle Dennis is Tilda Johnson.

Channel 4 Developing V FOR VENDETTA Series

According to Bleeding Cool, Channel 4 are apparently developing Alan Moore’s V for Vendetta for television. Despite Moore having created V for Vendetta in the early ‘80s, its themes of a corrupt totalitarian regime and revenge have never seemed more prevalent in today’s world. A case of life imitating art.

Moore’s perennial tale has, of course, previously been adapted for the big screen in 2005 by the Wachowskis and James McTeigue. Starring Hugo Weaving and Natalie Portman, the film was particularly notable for Alan Moore requesting that his name be disassociated with the project.

Could this be the first adaptation that finally gets the Moore seal of approval? Only time will tell.

Jill Scott Cast as BLACK LIGHTNING’s Lady Eve

With The CW currently working away on their next superhero series, Black Lightning, that show has brought in another new addition to its ranks.

As announced by the network themselves, Grammy-nommed singer Jill Scott has joined the series as the villainous Lady Eve; a DC comic book character who first appeared in 1985’s Batman and the Outsiders #24.

On this news, showrunner Salim Akil enthused, “Jill is an amazing artist who can embody any character and give them an authentic voice that is both nuanced and richly complex. I am excited to see her in the role of Lady Eve.”

Scott joins a cast that currently features Cress Williams as the titular Black Lightning, rapper Krondon as the nefarious Tobias Whale, and roles for Nafessa Williams, China Anne McClain, Christine Adams, Damon Gupton and James Remar.

The current synopsis for Black Lightning reads:

Cress Williams stars as Jefferson Pierce, aka Black Lightning, a man wrestling with a secret. As the father of two daughters and principal of a charter high school that also serves as a safe haven for young people in a New Orleans neighborhood overrun by gang violence, he is a hero to his community. Nine years ago, Pierce was a hero of a different sort. Gifted with the superhuman power to harness and control electricity, he used those powers to keep his hometown streets safe as the masked vigilante Black Lightning. However, after too many nights with his life on the line, and seeing the effects of the damage and loss that his alter ego was inflicting on his family, he left his Super Hero days behind and settled into being a principal and a dad. Choosing to help his city without using his superpowers, he watched his daughters Anissa and Jennifer grow into strong young women, even though his marriage to their mother, Lynn, suffered. Almost a decade later, Pierce’s crime-fighting are long behind him… or so he thought.

As ever, expect more on Black Lightning as it continues to develop.

Netflix Developing Superhero RAISING DION Series

Not enough superhero-driven TV shows around for your liking these days? No?! Regardless of whether you think that the market has been flooded over recent years, another new series will be heading to the small screen in the near-future.

As revealed by Netflix, the on-demand streaming service has ordered a ten-episode season of Raising Dion. While it’s maybe not a property that’s as well known as some of the other shows out there already, Raising Dion will be based on the short film and comic book of the same name from Dennis Liu. To be developed as an hour-long drama, Michael B. Jordan is serving as an executive producer and will also make an appearance in the series.

The early word on Raising Dion reads:

The series follows the story of a woman named Nicole Reese, who raises her son Dion after the death of her husband Mark (Jordan). The normal dramas of raising a son as a single mom are amplified when Dion starts to manifest several magical, superhero-like abilities. Nicole must now keep her son’s gifts secret with the help of Mark’s best friend Pat, and protect Dion from antagonists out to exploit him while figuring out the origin of his abilities.

On this news, Liu himself enthused, “I started this project many years ago because I wanted to see more diverse representation on film and television and I’m excited to partner with Netflix and MACRO, who I know shares that commitment. More than ever, we need more stories told from different points of view and my hope with Raising Dion is to create a cinematic experience for all families that will lift your spirits and make you laugh and cry.”

Netflix’s Cindy Holland added, “We haven’t seen this type of superhero story before – an origin myth full of imagination, wonder and adventure, all grounded in the experiences of a modern single mother. Michael B. Jordan is an exciting and dynamic talent, and I’m excited to see him, MACRO, Carol and the team translate Dennis’ unique vision to television.”

For those unfamiliar with the original Raising Dion short, you can find it in the player below:

As ever, expect more on Raising Dion as it continues to develop.

Optimus Prime to Feature in BUMBLEBEE Spinoff Movie

With Bumblebee’s solo film currently shooting, there’s now some news on another famous Autobot who’ll be joining the titular hero in his own spinoff picture.

As the title suggests, yes, Optimus Prime, the most beloved Transformer of all time, will be a part of Bumblebee. The longtime voice of Prime, Peter Cullen confirmed the news when speaking to Ramdeen Productions, giving a simple “Yes” when asked if we’ll hear his famed vocals in Bumblebee. At this stage, of course, we don’t yet know whether Prime will appear simply in a cameo role or whether he’ll have a larger role to play in the film.

So far, the spinoff from the main Transformers franchise has brought in Hailee Steinfeld, John Cena, Pamela Aldon, Stephen Schneider, Jorge Lendeborg Jr., Jason Drucker, Kenneth Choi, Ricardo Hoyos, Abby Quinn, Rachel Crow and Grace Dzienny to fill out its cast.

The current word on Bumblebee reads:

On the run in the year 1987, Bumblebee finds refuge in a junkyard in a small Californian beach town. Charlie (Hailee Steinfeld), on the cusp of turning 18 and trying to find her place in the world, discovers Bumblebee, battled-scarred and broken. When Charlie revives him, she quickly learns this is no ordinary, yellow VW bug.

To be directed by Travis Knight, Bumblebee is set for a December 2018 release.

Kate Winslet Joins James Cameron’s AVATAR Sequels

With James Cameron currently working away on his four Avatar sequels, the franchise has brought in a big name to join its ranks.

Speaking to Deadline, Cameron revealed that Kate Winslet has joined the series. As he explained, “Kate and I have been looking for something to do together for 20 years, since our collaboration on Titanic, which was one of the most rewarding of my career. I can’t wait to see her bring the character of Ronal to life.”

Who’s Ronal? At this stage, we have absolutely no idea.

Winslet joins a cast that includes the returning Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Joel David Moore, Matt Gerald, Sigourney Weaver and Stephen Lang, and fellow new additions in the shape of Cliff Curtis, Jack Champion and Oona Chaplin.

At present, Avatar 2 is set for a December 2020 release, Avatar 3 for December 2021, Avatar 4 for December 2024 and Avatar 5 for December 2025. And no, we still don’t have any idea why there’s any need for four sequels either.
