THE BLAIR WITCH PROJECT Reboot Brings On The Original Creative Team

the blair witch project 1999 film still

The upcoming reimagining of cult found-footage horror The Blair Witch Project is bringing back its original creatives. Lionsgate has announced Dylan Clark will helm the new take from a script by Chris Thomas Devlin, which the former is rewriting. Joshua Leonard and Michael C. Williams, who starred in the original 1999 film, will also serve as executive producers, as are the first movie’s directing trio of Eduardo Sánchez, Daniel Myrick, and Gregg Hale.

The new feature was announced in 2024 by Lionsgate and Blumhouse. While speaking at CinemaCon, Lionsgate film boss Adam Fogelson had teased “a new vision for Blair Witch that will reintroduce this horror classic for a new generation.”

Shortly after the announcement, Joshua Leonard expressed his frustration over the original film’s team not being involved in the new project. The actor wrote that there had been “25 years of disrespect [referring also to the team’s lack of involvement in 2000’s Book of Shadows: Blair Witch 2 or its 2016 follow-up] from the folks who’ve pocketed the lion’s share (pun intended) of the profits from OUR work, and that feels both icky and classless.”

These additions to the creative team promise to bring together the original feel of the classic horror with Lionsgate/Blumhouse’s updated vision.

First Artwork Released for HARBINGER

UK indie genre studio Shogun Films has unveiled the one-sheet key artwork and launched its first crowdfunding campaign for its horror movie, Harbinger.

Inspired by the classic British Hammer and Amicus horror films, the cast contains some much-loved genre favourites, headlined by Carole Ann Ford (Doctor Who), Gary Webster (Minder), Tony Sands (Moondial), and Peter Woodward (Crusade).

Harbinger tells the story of Julia, the sole survivor of maniacal satanic serial killer Henry Decker, living with PTSD 5 years after he was shot dead by the police while trying to kill her. Julia is approached by TV ghost show producer/presenter Mike Craggs (Webster) with an offer to return to Decker’s deserted home for a new episode of his show Spectre Investigates. Convinced by her mum (Ford) that it could be cathartic, Julia agrees and travels with Mike and his Crew to Decker’s imposing home. Once there, the team, including psychic Neal (Sands), uncovers Decker’s prized possession: a fairground fortune-telling machine known as The Harbinger, which dispenses fates via Tarot-style cards.

What the group don’t know, however, is that with his dying breath, Decker used an ancient incantation to transfer his soul into the Harbinger, and now uses it to plot murderous ends for the TV crew, taking the six souls he needs to be reincarnated. Preying on them one by one, he exploits their deepest fears and begins his murderous journey back to corporeal existence.

Harbinger was filmed in East Sussex and London and is now in post-production. The crowdfunding campaign is raising funds for finishing and promotion to get the movie to market and raise awareness of a new and exciting horror character in an age of repetition and familiarity.

Shogun Films founder Jonathan Sothcott said: “Having resisted the lure of crowdfunding our previous movies, Harbinger seems like the perfect project with which to embrace the huge value it offers filmmakers. Not only do we want to raise some money to really get the film out there in an increasingly oversaturated market, but we also want to use this exercise to raise awareness for the film. I grew up watching all the great British horror movies of the ’60s and ’70s, they’re in my blood, you might say, but it isn’t the kind of film I’m really associated with – yet! – so we want to get this movie out there as far and as wide as possible. If you love Hammer and Amicus and all those kinds of films, I’m sure you’ll like this!”

The film will be released by Trinity Content worldwide later in the year, both digitally, on Blu-ray and in selected cinemas, but before that, Shogun has teamed up with greenlit.com to offer audiences the opportunity to get involved at a grassroots level. Shogun Films are vocal advocates for physical media and are offering Blu-rays and soundtrack CDs to backers, as well as posters and unique screen-used tarot cards from the Harbinger machine itself.

Harbinger was created by producer Jonathan Sothcott (Helloween) with a story by Harry Boxley, and the screenplay was written by Simon Cluett (We Still Kill The Old Way). It is directed by James Crow (Nemesis). The Harbinger box’s malevolent occupant was designed by special effects wizard Stuart Webb.

The campaign can be found at www.greenlit.com/project/harbinger. Expect more news soon!

Details Revealed For DOCTOR WHO Multimedia Event CIRCUIT BREAKER

Jo Martin as the Fugitive Doctor in Doctor Who: Circuit Breaker

Doctor Who fans might have a long wait still to go until the show returns on TV (next up is the 2026 Christmas special, followed by… who knows?), but the Doctor’s adventures carry on across other media – quite a lot of them, in fact, in the upcoming “global multi-platform story” Circuit Breaker.

Focusing on the Fugitive Doctor – the previously ‘forgotten’ incarnation played by Jo Martin – this series will tell an epic story across comics, novels, audios, and more, in the same vein as previous multimedia projects Time Lord Victorious and Doom’s Day. The first instalment will be an online piece released on 25th June. The BBC’s official synopsis for the overarching story goes:

In the depths of UNIT’s most secure facility, the Black Archive, familiar objects have been pulled through time and space surrounded with a dangerous energy signature threatening to tear reality apart. With time running out, newly appointed Head of the Black Archive, Osgood (Ingrid Oliver) and her assistant Andrew (Omari Douglas) turn to the only person who can help… the Doctor (Jo Martin).

This is no ordinary crisis, and not the Time Lord they are familiar with. As the Doctor confronts her most infamous enemies such as the Daleks, Cybermen, Sontarans and a rogue Weeping Angel, she is forced to complete a mission with an insidious presence lurking in the shadows.

Secrets begin to surface, and trust between UNIT and the Doctor begins to erode as those who idolise her start to question if she really is the Time Lord they thought they knew…

Anne Hathaway and Dakota Johnson Star In Psycho Thriller VERITY

dakota johnson in teaser trailer for verity

“There is no light where we’re going”, agree Anne Hathaway and Dakota Johnson in the new teaser trailer for psychological thriller Verity. Based on Colleen Hoover’s 2018 novel, the film comes courtesy of Amazon MGM Studios.

In the erotically-tinged film, Lowen Ashley (Johnson) is a struggling writer in need of work when she is contacted by Jeremy Crawford (Josh Hartnett). Jeremy’s wife is bestselling author Verity Crawford (Hathaway, determined to rule the box office in 2026) who, due to a mysterious accident, is unable to finish her successful book series. Jeremy asks Lowen to ghostwrite and complete the series; but, after Lowen uncovers what appears to be Verity’s chillling autobiographical manuscript, she begins to wrestle with Verity’s disturbing and twisted confessions and begins to find it hard to separate fiction from reality.

Ismael Cruz Cordova and Brady Wagner round out the cast. Michael Showalter (The Big Sick, The Idea of You) directs from a script by Nick Antosca (Hannibal, Antlers).

Producers include Showalter and Jordana Mollick for Semi-Formal Productions, Antosca and Alex Hedlund for Eat the Cat, Hathaway for Somewhere Pictures, Hoover for Heartbones Entertainment, and Stacey Sher for Shiny Penny. Johnson executive produces with Kerry Orent and Lauren Levine.

nicolas cage as spider-noir in new prime video series trailer

The official trailer for Prime Video’s Spider-Man-based series features Nicolas Cage’s Spider-Noir facing off against Brendan Gleeson’s super villain.

Cage play Ben Reilly, an ageing and down-on-his-luck private investigator in 1930s New York City, who is forced to grapple with his past life as the city’s one and only superhero, the Spider. In the new trailer, Reilly is forced to become the Spider once again to face off against a powerful Irish crime boss (Gleeson), known as Silvermane in the comics.

The project is a stand-alone story and not part of the Sony movies, nor the Into the Spider-Verse franchise, in which Cage voiced the same character.

The full cast includes Lamorne Morris as Robbie Robertson, Li Jun Li as Cat Hardy, Karen Rodriguez as Janet, Abraham Popoola as Lonnie Lincoln/Tombstone, and Jack Huston as Flint Marko/Sandman. CLAYFACE Teaser Trailer Promises Compelling Body Horror

still from clayface teaser trailer

The Clayface teaser trailer has finally arrived. The first footage from DC Studios’ Batman villain origin story follows an up-and-coming actor (Tom Rhys Harries) whose face is disfigured by a gangster. As a last resort, he turns to a scientist (Naomi Ackie) who transforms his body into clay.

Or, as otherwise stated by the official logline: Clayface unravels one man’s horrifying descent from rising Hollywood star to revenge-filled monster in a story that explores the loss of one’s identity and humanity, corrosive love, and the dark underbelly of scientific ambition.

James Watkins (Speak No Evil) directs the body horror pic from a script by Doctor Sleep director Mike Flanagan, along with Hossein Amini.

Clayface might not be as widely known as The Penguin or The Joker, but we really feel that his story is equally resonant, compelling, and in many ways, more terrifying than one of those,” DC Studios co-chief Peter Safran has said, with Gunn adding the film will feel “totally real” and will be “true and psychological and body horror and gross.”

Before Clayface makes its way to cinemas this autumn, DC will release Supergirl, for which you can watch a trailer here.

Watch the Clayface teaser trailer below, ahead of its release October 23rd.

Curry Barker To Direct THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE Project

leatherface in the texas chainsaw massacre. curry barker to direct a24 adaptation

A24 is handing the chainsaw over to filmmaker Curry Barker, who is in talks to write and direct his own adaptation of the horror property The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. This is a project apart from the A24 television series from Glen Powell, Dan Cohen, and JT Mollner. Curry Barker has shot to fame when he became the Toronto Film Festival darling last autumn, thanks to his horror movie Obsession becoming the biggest sale of the festival.

As most will already know, the Chainsaw horror franchise focuses on the cannibalistic spree killer Leatherface (who uses a chainsaw as his signature weapon) and his family, who terrorise unsuspecting visitors to their territories in the isolated Texan countryside, typically killing and then cooking them. Presently, the franchise consists of nine films, comics, a novel, and two video game adaptations. A24 won the rights to the IP after a months-long bidding war.

Obsession, which will be releasing in cinemas next month, is a Monkey’s Paw tale of a young man who wishes that his friend would love him more than anything in the world. Barker wrote, directed, and edited the indie film. Barker has also just completed principal photography on his next feature, Anything But Ghosts, which he wrote, directed, and co-stars in.

Roy Lee will produce the new Texas Chainsaw Massacre along with his Spooky Pictures partner Steven Schneider. Stuart Manashil and Exurbia Films’ Pat Cassidy, Ian Henkel and Kim Henkel will also produce, as will Powell and Cohen via Barnstorm. Ben Ross of Image Nation is aboard to executive produce.

Indie Found Footage Shocker BAITED Needs You!

Independent production company Deadbolt Films has officially launched a Kickstarter campaign for Baited, a visceral new found-footage horror feature blending internet vigilante culture with cosmic dread, and it’s off to a flying start, reaching over 65% of its goal in its first week!

Currently in production, Baited is directed by Gav Chuckie Steel (Preternatural) and produced by Jonathan Payne. The film is written by Thomas J. Campbell and Joe Butler, with cinematography by Benjamin Hamill.

Described as a “raw, immersive descent into paranoia, guilt, and something far worse,” BAITED follows a group of online vigilantes who expose suspected predators to a growing audience hungry for justice. When a previous sting ends in tragedy, the group fractures and is haunted by what really happened. A year later, they reunite to track their most infamous target, a man known only as Gregory. What begins as one final operation quickly spirals into something far more disturbing, as the group becomes trapped inside a shifting, nightmarish space where reality fractures and they realise they may no longer be the hunters.

Shot using a multi-camera approach, including handheld rigs, body cams, smartphones, and cinema cameras, Baited aims to deliver a grounded, claustrophobic experience that blurs the line between fiction and reality.

The film stars Isabel Salazar, Byron Collins, Benjamin Hamill, and Cora Jaine.

The Kickstarter campaign will support the next stage of production and post-production, while giving horror fans the opportunity to become part of the film through exclusive rewards and behind-the-scenes access.

“We’re making a film that feels real, uncomfortably real,” said the filmmakers.

Baited is about guilt, consequence, and the danger of believing you’re on the right side of something you don’t fully understand.”

With principal photography already underway, the team is inviting audiences to help bring BAITED to completion and join a new wave of independent, boundary-pushing horror cinema.
