Sony Pictures has released a brand new trailer for Uncharted, its big screen adaptation of the iconic PlayStation video game series following the exploits of Nathan Drake, the street-smart thief and eventual treasure hunter.

Tom Holland plays Drake in this action adventure, opposite Mark Wahlberg as the seasoned treasure hunter and Drake’s close friend Victor “Sully” Sullivan. Sully recruits Drake to recover a great fortune lost by Ferdinand Magellan some five centuries ago, estimated to be worth $5 billion. However, things grow more complicated when the two realise they are racing to gather clues against Antonio Banderas’ Moncada, a ruthless man who believes he is the rightful heir to the lost wealth and will stop at nothing to retrieve it.

If all things stay their course, Uncharted is due to release in cinemas on February 18th, 2022.

JOHN WICK: Chapter 4 Is Delayed… Again

Originally intended for release on May 21st, 2021, John Wick: Chapter 4 was initially pushed back a year to May 27th, 2022. Well friends, Lionsgate has now announced that the Keanu Reeves-starring chapter has been rescheduled once again, this time to March 24th, 2023.

The studio shared the news in a short promotional video posted to its social channels with the caption “Be seeing you”, in which The Administration changes the Chapter 4 release date at the instruction of The High Table. This latest update sets a cruel four year gap between Chapter 4 and John Wick: Parabellum, considering the cliff-hanger on which the latter ended. We do know that there’s plenty to look forward to in this fourth instalment, as Reeves will be joined by returning actors Lance Reddick, Laurence Fishburne, and Ian McShane, as well as action icons Donnie Yen and Hiroyuki Sanada.

Though the reason for this latest delay has not been confirmed, it does appear to be one of the first cinema casualties of the newest COVID-19 surge linked to the Omicron variant. So far, film release dates have not been impacted by the latest spike, but this development does not look good for next year’s slate of blockbusters.

If you need your Keanu Reeves fix pronto however, a reminder that The Matrix Resurrections is out in cinemas and on HBO Max now.

Michael Keaton’s Batman To Star In BATGIRL

Michael Keaton returns as Bruce Wayne/Batman in Batgirl

Michael Keaton’s Caped Crusader is answering the Batsignal once again, this time opposite DC’s Barbara Gordon, aka Batgirl. As per Deadline, Keaton will reprise his original role from Tim Burton’s 1989 Batman, which he played again in Batman Returns.

Before coming back to support his Bat family however, Keaton will appear as Gotham’s Dark Knight for the first time since 1992 in The Flash – the Ezra Miller-fronted solo outing due for cinema release in November next year. The Flash also promises to delve deeper into DC’s Multiverse, with Ben Affleck appearing as the DCEU’s main Batman.

For Batgirl, Keaton joins In The Heights’ Leslie Grace as the titular character, the Gotham hero and daughter of Commissioner Jim Gordon (J.K. Simmons, returning from Justice League) and Brendan Fraser as the villain Firefly, a sociopath with a penchant for pyrotechnics. Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah (Bad Boys for Life) are directing the film from a script by Christina Hodson.

No release date has yet been set for Batgirl, but the movie has begun shooting so a 2022 release seems likely.

Teaser trailer for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness

One week after the incredible Spider-Man: No Way Home released in UK cinemas, Marvel has posted its teaser trailer for Sam Raimi-directed Doctor Strange In The Multiverse of Madness!

If you’ve already seen No Way Home, then you’ll have already seen this footage in the end credits scenes – though you now have the ability to replay, pause, and pore over every little Easter egg, including a brief first glimpse of Xochitl Gomez’s America Chavez, aka Miss America, and a one-eyed monster tearing through New York. The teaser also suggests an unlikely villain for the Doctor Strange sequel: a multiversal Stephen Strange standing in what looks like He Who Remains/Kang’s old office from the Loki finale.

Black Sunday Film Festival Announces 2022 Line-Up

The Black Sunday Film Festival returns in 2022 after successfully returning to the live festival experience with a sold-out 2021 event. The festival returns to the Whirled Cinema, London, for its fourth year – January 29th and 30th (nearest tube: Loughborough Junction).

We can exclusively reveal the 2022 official selections, which feature four fantastic feature films and nineteen amazing short films over the two days. You can check out the genre delights on offer below:

Feature films include the London Premiere of ALONE WITH YOU from writer/director duo Emily Bennett and Justin Brooks, with an incredible central performance from Emily Bennett and co-stars genre legend Barbara Crampton. Feature film DUYSTER has its UK premiere. From directors Thomas Vanbrabant and Jordi Ostir, the found-footage horror follows three students as they film a documentary about Johannes Duyster – Antwerp’s infamous 17th-century executioner. As in 2021, the festival will come to a close with the CULT FILM SECRET SCREENING. Teaming with Arrow Video, Black Sunday saw the return of HELLRAISER to the silver screen in 2021, with another cult classic from the Arrow vault planned for 2022.

2022 also sees the return of Black Sunday’s ever-popular short film blocks. Shorts include:

Due to the ongoing pandemic, only 50% of tickets and full weekend passes are on sale now. Depending on government advice, further tickets may go on sale in early 2022.

THE DISPATCHER Being Adapted As TV Series

The dispatcher novella series by John Scalzi being adapted to television

The ongoing Zachary Quinto-narrated The Dispatcher, which began life as an Audible audiobook created by author John Sclazi, is now being adapted to the small screen. Deadline reports that producer Uri Singer, who is also behind the upcoming Netflix feature film adaptation of Don DeLillo’s Underworld, was the one to acquire the rights.

The Dispatcher takes place in Chicago, in a future when murder has become near-impossible due to a new Resurrective Immortality – 999 times out of a thousand, murder victims come back to life, though no one seems to know how or why. Those who are intentionally killed by another person will vanish into thin air and reappear in their homes, naked but alive and restored to its state from several hours prior to the death. The series follows Dispatcher Tony Valdez, a government-licensed professional whose job is to humanely kill those near death (for example, a complicated surgery that goes wrong) in order to give them another chance at life.

One day, Valdez is approached by detective Nona Langdon, who explains that a colleague of his has apparently been kidnapped. The two team up in hopes of finding the other Dispatcher.

Scalzi’s previous works include the novels Redshirts and the Old Man’s War series, as well as three short stories that were adapted as part of Netflix’s Love, Death, & Robots. So far the only name attached is Singer’s; more information as to who might direct, write, and produce to follow.

Michelle Yeoh Kicks Ass In THE WITCHER: BLOOD ORIGIN Teaser

The Witcher Blood Origin reveals first teaser ahead of Netflix release

If you spent your weekend binging your way through the long-awaited second season of The Witcher, then you will have already seen the teaser for its prequel series, Blood Origin. If you haven’t yet, then Netflix has posted it online – and don’t worry, there are no spoilers here.

As per the show’s logline, “Every story has a beginning. Witness the untold history of the Continent with The Witcher: Blood Origin”. The six-episode prequel series is set some 1200 years prior to the events of The Witcher, back when the Continent was home to a thriving elven empire. It will recounts a story lost to time: that of the creation of the first Witcher, and of the events that led to the Conjunction of the Spheres when the worlds of men, elves, dwarves, and monsters became one.

As previously reported by Entertainment Weekly in their interview with showrunner Declan De Barra, the prequel stars Michelle Yeoh as Scian, the last member of a nomadic tribe on a mission to retrieve a blade stolen from her people; Sophia Brown as Éile, a warrior of the Queen’s guard who leaves to become a traveling musician; Laurence O’Fuarain as Fjall, a man born into a clan of warriors sworn to protect their king, who instead sets out in need of vengeance after a loved one dies in battle trying to save him; and Lenny Henry as Chief Druid Balor.

Robert Eggers’ THE NORTHMAN Trailer

From the mind that gifted us The Witch and The Lighthouse now comes a sprawling Viking revenge movie, The Northman. Alexander Skarsgård plays Amleth, the son of a king (Ethan Hawke) who was shot down and subsequently beheaded by his own brother, Fjölnir (Claes Bang).

Now an adult and having spent years on the run, Amleth seeks to avenge his father’s death, rescue his mother (Nicole Kidman) and take back his homeland from the invaders, with the help of Anya Taylor-Joy’s character Olga.

Willem Dafoe also stars as a creepy guy in the dark, and Björk as herself (aka a medieval Viking witch). The Northman is directed by Robert Eggers and co-written with Icelandic poet and novelist Sjón (who recently also shared writing credits for the Noomi Rapace-starring Lamb).

This film looks to unfold on a far bigger scale than either of Eggers’ previous projects, though it retains the stunning cinematography, supernatural themes and attention to historical detail that the filmmaker has become known for – thanks to his re-teaming with cinematographer Jarin Blaschke and editor Louise Ford.

The Northman is due to release in UK cinemas on April 22nd, 2022.

2021 Hugo Award Winners Announced

The Hugo Awards have been running since 1953 and are tied into the annual Worldcon events. As the name suggests, Worldcon is a huge book event that travels around the world (including much of North America). Regular attendees (known as members) tend to be affluent, broadly read and widely travelled.

In front of an enthusiastic audience at Omni Shoreham in Washington DC USA, and online, the 2021 Hugo Awards have been announced. The event was hosted by Andrea Hairston and Sheree Renée Thomas.
