The first, full-length trailer for writer-director James Gunn‘s Superman has been released. Previously titled Superman: Legacy, the Warner Bros. feature stars David Corenswet as Clark Kent, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor.

The new film focuses on the titular superhero, who made his way to Earth from the planet Krypton and grapples with his powers while blending in as Daily Planet journalist Clark Kent. The story follows his journey trying to reconcile his alien heritage with his human upbringing.

“It focuses on Superman balancing his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing. He is the embodiment of truth, justice and the American way. He is kindness in a world that thinks that kindness is old-fashioned,” Peter Safran stated previously.

The film co-stars Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, Terence Rosemore as Otis, Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Nathan Fillion looking goofy in a blonde wig as Guy Gardner, and María Gabriela de Faría as The Engineer. And of course, there’s Krypto the dog!

This is the first film in Gunn and Safran’s rebooted DC Universe.

Superman releases in cinemas from July 11th. Watch the trailer below:

Jessica Jones Is Back In DAREDEVIL: BORN AGAIN

krysten ritter as jessica jones

Krysten Ritter is reprising her role as Jessica Jones, the private eye with super strength, and will enter the Marvel Cinematic Universe by being cast in season two of Daredevil: Born Again. She joins Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock, the two reuniting after the characters starred together in The Defenders.

Ritter starred in the eponymous Netflix series in the mid-2010s, generating well-deserved acclaim for her portrayal. She led the series for three seasons between 2015 and 2019, and starred in the limited crossover series The Defenders.

“It is so great to be back. Returning to Jessica after three seasons, and the Defenders and now joining the MCU. I am so excited to bring back this iconic character. Without giving too much away… there’s much in store for Jessica Jones – this is going to be an incredible season,” Ritter said this on stage at the Disney Upfronts presentation. Marvel executives remained secretive on whether other actors and characters from the Netflix television era, such as Mike Colter as Luke Cage and Finn Jones as Iron Fist, would pop up in the MCU in the future.

Added Charlie Cox: “Season 1 of Daredevil: Born Again was an incredible experience, and the response from fans and audiences has been overwhelming. The good news is we’re just getting started. We’re currently shooting Season 2, and it is heading in a bold new direction. I’m excited to finally suit up in the iconic black Daredevil suit – complete with the interlocking Ds on the chest. It’s something fans have been asking me about for over a decade, and that’s just the beginning of what we’ve got in store this season.”

Season two will pick up after the cliff-hanger of Daredevil: Born Again‘s first season, in which crime lord Wilson Fisk (Vincent D’Onofrio) consolidated his power and forced Matt Murdock to go underground and begin reaching out to allies to resist Fisk and his anti-vigilante task force. Jessica Jones will be part of that group of allies.

Next up from Marvel’s television division are Ironheart, the Ryan Coogler-produced six-episode series releasing on June 24th, and Wonder Man, starring Yahya Abdul-Mateen II and Ben Kingsley.

NOBODY 2 Trailer Teases More Bloody Mayhem

bob odenkirk in trailer for nobody 2

Four years after Bob Odenkirk took on the Russian mob, he’s back to causing chaos in the trailer for Nobody 2. Per the synopsis: “Sometimes the most dangerous place for a dad is a family vacation.”

Bob Odenkirk returns as suburban husband, father and workaholic assassin Hutch Mansell in the new chapter to Nobody. After taking on the mob, Hutch remains $30 million in debt to the criminal organisation and is working it off with an unending string of hits on international thugs.

Much as he likes the slam-bang action of his “job,” Hutch and his wife Becca (Connie Nielsen) find themselves overworked and drifting apart. So, they decide to take their kids on a short getaway to Wild Bill’s Majestic Midway and Waterpark, the only place where Hutch and his brother Harry (RZA) vacationed as kids.

With Hutch’s dad (Christopher Lloyd) in tow, the family arrives in the small tourist town of Plummerville.  But when a minor encounter with some town bullies yanks the family into the crosshairs of a corrupt theme-park operator (John Ortiz) and his shady sheriff (Colin Hanks), Hutch finds himself the focus of the most unhinged, blood-thirsty crime boss he (or anyone) has ever encountered (played by none other than Sharon Stone).

Nobody 2 is directed by Timo Tjahjanto from a screenplay by returning writer Derek Kolstad and by Aaron Rabin, from a story by Derek Kolstad.

Nobody 2 releases in UK cinemas on August 15th. Watch the trailer below:

Warhammer Skulls Video Game Showcase Returns

Games Workshop will showcase the next year’s run of Warhammer-themed video games in their Skulls Showcase on May 22nd at 5pm BST / 9 am PST.

Warhammer 40,000 and Warhammer Age of Sigmar are as well known for their video games as they are for their tabletop models, with games such as Dawn of War and Space Marine becoming roundly regarded classics.

The Skulls event usually features new game announcements as well as DLC news.  The host will be fan favourite Rahul Kohlio, who is also the voice of Sternguard Veteran Malum Caedo in Warhammer 40K themed boomer shooter, Boltgun.

Games featured may include Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2, Warhammer 40,000: Darktide, and Warhammer 40,000: Mechanicus II.  If we are very lucky, we may get some news about updates to Boltgun.

“There are so many entry points into the Warhammer universe, and mine was through video games,” said Rahul Kohli.  “The Warhammer Skulls Festival is something I would be tuning into every year if I wasn’t already hosting it! It’s a pleasure to return for my 3rd year, and I can’t wait to see the reactions to what’s being revealed. It’s gonna be one hell of a show!”

Other reveals may include Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader, Total War: Warhammer III, Warhammer 40,000: Tacticus, Warhammer 40,000: Vermintide II, Warhammer 40,000: Warpforge, and Warhammer 40,000: Battlesector.

The showcase will also launch a week-long series of offers and freebies, including up to 90% off Warhammer titles; new content, DLCS, and free updates will be available across multiple platforms, including Steam, Xbox, PlayStation and PC.

Anyone wanting to watch the showcase live and keep up to date with all things Warhammer Skulls can follow Warhammer on Twitch at twitch.tv/warhammer and use the hashtag #WarhammerSkulls to be part of the conversation across all social media platforms.  After the livestream, head over to warhammer-community.com/skulls to get all the details – including links to sales.

Horus Heresy Handles Hearsay

Games Workshop’s other big science-fiction game, The Horus Heresy, is getting a new edition, and the rumours surrounding the game have been rather interesting.  The Horus Heresy is a version of the Warhammer 40,000 game set 10,000 years in the past. It’s a grittier setting, using a different set of rules and models that call back to earlier iterations of world’s most popular SF wargame, Warhammer 40,000.

Rumours about the new Horus Heresy game began when details of the new edition were soft-launched via the official Warhammer YouTube Channel. A short skit about new Warhammer games featured a well-timed pun, and directed fans to the website The Horus Hearsay, a website produced by Games Workshop that gently parodied the traditional rumour mill that surrounds product launches like this.

The site clearly intended to slowly reveal the new product in order to build hype. Mixed in were some silly jokes and ‘clearly false’ leaked image, further poking fun at the ecosystem of speculative news that surrounds Warhammer. It seemed likely that a full reveal would appear sometime toward the end of May, with more news likely to tie in with the Dallas Open, a major Warhammer event.

But then we had a surprise twist; the actual game seems to have been leaked. A picture of the The Horus Heresy box set was leaked online, with the images looking grainy but extremely plausible. According to the images available online, the new edition will be subtitled Saturnine. The pictures include images of the keenly anticipated ‘Saturnine Terminators’ and a similarly themed dreadnought.

In a move that embraces the community, The Horus Hearsay website has leaned into this leak, poking fun at the poor quality of the images and continuing as planned. Though it is very likely this was not an official leak, this has been further applauded by Warhammer fans across the globe, for taking the leak with very good humour.

Sci-Fi Lit Auction Gets Even Better

Following the success of the recent Genre Creators for Trans Rights In The UK & SA, top authors Lauren Beukes and Jeannette Ng have launched an immediate sequel.

The previous auction raised  £20000 for The Good Law Project and The Triangle Project.  This new auction looks to top that, and has some amazing things up for auction.

Items up for sale include a super-rare galley proof of Robert Jordan’s The Eye Of The World, the book that began The Wheel of Time series.  They are estimated to be less than 600 copies of this plain galley copy in existence. To put that into perspective, over 90 million copies of the Wheel of Time series have sold worldwide.

Horror fans might want to check out the Hereditary Gingerbread Treehouse Kit, which is practically impossible to find in the UK. Or try to get your hands on a first edition, signed copy of Chocolat, donated by the author Joanne Harris.

Big Finish author James Moran has donated the ability to have your name added to a Big Finish audio drama, which for most of us is the closest we’re ever going to get to the TARDIS. Authors Patrick Ness, Richard Kadrey, John Wiswell and Juliet McKenna have also donated ‘Your Name As A Character’ offers to the auction.

Of course, STARBURST has joined in the on the action. You can bid on STARBURST: THE ALBUM (CD) as well as the vinyl, which would make a perfect gift even if you already have it. You can also bag yourself a One one-year subscription to The Galaxy’s Greatest  Magazine (That’ll be STARBURST Magazine, to be clear).

The auction ends at Midnight, British Summer Time, on the 7th of June. You can find out more here.
