Ben Kingsley is returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, reprising his role as actor Trevor Slattery in the planned Disney+ project Wonder Man.
The series, which is in development, focuses on one of Marvel’s oldest characters: Simon Williams, aka Wonder Man. In the comics, Williams is an actor, stuntman, and the son of a wealthy industrialist whose company falls on hard times due to competition from Stark Industries. Williams then gains ionic superpowers to fight the Avengers, though he ultimately joins their team.
There’s no word yet on how Kingsley’s character might fit into it, nor the extent of his involvement, though Variety reports he will “play a major role”. In any case, it’s likely to be a while until we find out anything concrete, given that numerous other Marvel shows are sure to take priority – among them the Samuel L. Jackson-fronted Secret Invasion and Ryan Coogler’s Ironheart.
The project would mark Ben Kingsley ’s fourth appearance in the MCU, following Iron Man 3, the short film All Hail the King, and last year’s Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. The latter’s director, Destin Daniel Cretton, is co-creator and executive producer of the planned Wonder Man series alongside head writer Andrew Guest.
