A new Star Wars film is in the works, with Lost co-creator Damon Lindelof attached as co-writer and Ms. Marvel filmmaker Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy directing, Deadline reports.

Lindelof’s involvement in a Star Wars project has been rumoured for a while now; his impressive resume includes television credits such as The Leftovers and Watchmen, while in film he has written several Star Trek features and, more recently, Universal’s The Hunt. Meanwhile, Obaid-Chinoy helmed Disney+’s Ms. Marvel series, before which she made her name as an Oscar-winning documentarian.

It’s unknown who Lindelof’s writing partner might be, when this project will be released (not for a while, in any case), or what the plot would entail.

Lucasfilm’s Star Wars slate has been in near-constant flux for the last few years, with multiple projects being developed, scheduled, then put on the back burner or moved around – among them, Patty Jenkins’ Rogue Squadron, which should have opened in December this year but has since been delayed. There’s also a Kevin Feige-produced film on the docket written by Loki’s Michael Waldron, a Taika Waititi-directed project from screenwriter Krysty Wilson-Cairns, and two untitled Star Wars features dated for December 2025 and December 2027. That’s not to mention the television series!
