With 20th Century Fox’s X-MEN franchise having firmly opened up the whole time-travel conundrum with this year’s DAYS OF FUTURE PAST, all eyes are on the next installment in the series, X-MEN: APOCALYPSE. It’s believed that this upcoming film will primarily focus on the younger batch of X-faces introduced in FIRST CLASS, although there has been speculation that some of the older heads, specifically Patrick Stewart’s Charles Xavier, James Marsden’s Scott Summers and Famke Janssen’s Jean Grey, may make an appearance of some sort. Whilst the older versions of Scott and Jean may or may not appear, The Wrap is reporting that Fox are currently looking at several names to play the younger versions of these characters, much like how the likes of James McAvoy is the younger Xavier and Michael Fassbender is the younger Magneto.

In terms of Scott Summers, aka Cyclops, it’s believed that three names are in the fold at the moment: INTERSTELLAR’s Timothee Chalamet (below left), EASTENDERS’ Ben Hardy (below middle) and RED BAND SOCIETY’s Charlie Rowe (below right). As well as Marsden’s appearance as the character in X-MEN, X2, X-MEN: THE LAST STAND and a fleeting cameo in DAYS OF FUTURE PAST, audiences were given a younger version of Scott, played by Tim Pocock, in the much-panned X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE.

The names up for Cyclops’ long-term other half are said to be MALEFICENT’s Elle Fanning (below left), TRUE GRIT’s Hailee Steinfeld (below middle) and KICK-ASS’ very own Hit-Girl, Chloe Grace Moretz (below right).

At this stage, it’s not known how much of a role the new Scott and Jean will have in Bryan Singer’s next X-effort, although it’s understood that the characters will have big roles in future X-MEN films after APOCALYPSE. Whoever does end up with the gig, they’ll be joining an APOCALYPSE cast that is currently made up of Fassbender, McAvoy, Jennifer Lawrence as Mystique, Nicholas Hoult as Hank McCoy, Evan Peters as Quicksilver, and likely an appearance from Channing Tatum’s Remy LaBeau.

X-MEN: APOCALYPSE is set for a May 18th, 2016 release.
