First up, yes, Hollywood are remaking the 1976 cult flick THE TOWN THAT DREADED SUNDOWN. For those who haven’t seen it, it tells the true (ish) tale of a sack-masked serial killer on the loose in a small Texas town. The “remake” will take the unusual approach and set it in the same town, but in present day, where a brutal massacre occurs at a screening of the original movie! (Which is quite cool, but didn’t they kinda do that in SCREAM already?)

Most encouragingly, there’s a powerful bunch of talented folk behind the movie: AMERICAN HORROR STORY co-creator Ryan Murphy is producing alongside Jason Blum, one of the minds behind the PARANORMAL ACTIVITY series, SINISTER, and INSIDIOUS. On directing duties is  Alfonso Gomez-Rejon, who helmed five episodes of AHS for Murphy across its two seasons, and the script is penned by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, who is also behind the upcoming CARRIE remake.

Signing on to play the lead role – the lone survivor of the movie massacre who sets out to find out the who was behind it – twenty-two year old actress Addison Timlin (pictured above), star of such shows as CALIFORNICATION (in which she spends a lot of her screentime getting jiggy with Fox Mulder) and new fantasy drama ZERO HOUR.

We’ll have more on the film as it develops…
