In an interview with IGN the acclaimed filmmaker revealed that he is indeed writing a sequel to this summer’s monster n’ robots blockbuster. Despite the film not flying as high as its onscreen monsters, when it came the box office, the film healthily surpassed the $400 million mark internationally. As of right now Warner Brothers and Legendary Pictures have yet to approve the bot-battling follow-up but Del Toro is clearly ready for the draw. He said, “Travis Beacham and I are writing, so that is active. The decision to green light or not, that’s definitely above my pay rate”.

No doubt Pacific Rim had its dissenters but the film has been showered with positivity from certain sectors, especially when it comes to the manga and anime audiences (from which the film drew inspirations). This news will please many Rimmers (no laughing) the world over. This affection was clearly noticed by the director too, who further stated, “To me, what was beautiful and flattering was how people saw the movie not once or twice but three, four times or more. People that love it, love it with great passion. So I would love to continue telling stories about that world”.

Legendary/Warner Brothers it’s over to you. Will you or won’t you cancel the apocalypse?
