Producer of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles reboot Michael Bay has quashed rumours that the giant, green ass-kicking amphibians will be from an alien race. Putting that to rest, he has officially spoken out about the hullabaloo that surrounded the rumoured new origin of the turtles.

Bay confirmed that it is simply the original ooze that turns the turtles into their mutated form that will be alien in origin, an element unchanged from the first incarnation of TMNT written by Peter Laird and Kevin Eastman. Bay said “There was that quote saying that we’re making the Ninja Turtles as aliens. We’re not. It’s the ooze! It’s from the original source material. These are from the original writers, and I never went out to correct myself in the press. I do listen to the fans and I do want this to be authentic. I think they’re going to be really happy with this movie. When I see the digital stuff, the turtles look great.”

With Megan Fox cast as April O’Neill and WRATH OF THE TITANS director Jonathan Liebesman directing, not to mention Bay on producing duties, expect this outing of the awesome foursome to be bigger, sexier and more spectacular than any previous incarnation. Cowabunga dude!

On the promotional circuit for PAIN AND GAIN, Bay’s ‘little’ $26 million movie, he was also talking up his next collaboration with actor Mark Wahlberg for the latest TRANSFORMERS sequel. He says to expect design changes and discussed why he is returning for the fourth entry in the franchise.

On the new look Transformers, he said to Moviefone, “We’ve redesigned them in TRANSFORMERS 4, and there’s some really cool sh*t in it. I’m literally redesigning every character, top to bottom. There’s a reason why they’re redesigned, but it’s also to keep it new and fresh to me. I think the fans will appreciate some of this new stuff we have in the movie and some of the new characters.”

Bay is also keen to stress that this TRANSFORMERS film will be the start of something new with a new star and new designs. As for why he has chosen to take on the task he said “You don’t want someone to f*ck it up. So I at least wanted to set it up on some good footing. Because you’re going to get a different kind of director who is not going to want to follow in my footsteps. Directors feel very territorial. So they’re going to go to a more inexperienced director. It’s just the way Hollywood works. And I’m thinking, ‘God, so I’ll redesign it, set it up… Someone’s gonna f*ck this up.’ This is way too big of a thing. And I’m looking at all these kids and I’m like, ‘F*ck, I gotta do one more.’ And then I brought Mark into it. So now we’ve got a movie star, we’ve got full redesigns. At least it’ll be on good footing.”

So there you have it. Michael Bay does not want anyone else to ‘f*ck up’ the franchise. Call us cynical but isn’t that a bit rich coming from the guy who gave us TRANSFORMERS 2?

NINJA TURTLES and TRANSFORMERS 4 both hit cinemas summer 2014.
