It seems as if Jeremy Renner’s brief stint as Hawkeye may finally be over. According to CBM, Marvel are looking to move forward with future projects without Renner.

The main issue between the two parties seems to be the ever popular issue of dollar dollar. Whilst Robert Downey Jr. is estimated to have made $50 million from AVENGERS ASSEMBLE, it’s believed that Scarlett Johansson, Chris Evans and Chris Hemsworth were only paid $500,000 each. It’s a safe bet to assume that Renner is closer to the Johansson, Evans, Hemsworth pay scale than the Downey Jr. megabucks. This issue is also something that is causing problems in Downey Jr.’s ongoing contract negotiations, as the actor isn’t happy at his colleagues being low-balled, and is doing his best to haggle on their behalf.

As well as the financial issue, Renner has previously had issues with Marvel and the Hawkeye character, going to on record to vent his frustration. It wasn’t too long ago that he said, “For 90% of the movie , I’m not the character I signed on to play. It’s kind of a vacancy. He’s not even a bad guy, because there’s not really a consciousness to him. To take away who that character is and just have him be this robot.”

Marvel have a history of distancing themselves from actors that have bad-mouthed them publicly (hey there, Mickey Rourke and Hugo Weaving), so it wouldn’t be a surprise if Renner is given the cold shoulder.

Further indication of Renner’s situation can be found in CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER. Pretty much any and all characters associated with S.H.I.E.L.D., including Black Widow and Nick Fury, are a part of the Cap sequel, yet Hawkeye is nowhere to be seen.

Marvel’s Kevin Feige and Joss Whedon have also both gone on record to say that they may be introducing new characters to the Avengers team in THE AVENGERS 2, with Black Widow and Hawkeye being suggested as the ones that will make way. Speculation currently has the brother-sister combination of Quicksilver and the Scarlet Witch as set to join Earth’s mightiest heroes for the sequel to AVENGERS ASSEMBLE.
